I really loved this place! I walked their gardens, enjoyed the company of the owners and other guests. When I wanted company I could have it; when I wanted down time it was respected. They were as strict with COVID as the most conservative guest. I was laid back and when there alone, we just social distanced. When other guests wanted masks, etc., we all accommodated. Every breakfast was wonderful. Not fancy, but flavorful with fresh garden herbs and made to order. When I return, I will be staying with them again. read more

Although the people who run this place are extremely nice, we had a bad experience. We specifically asked about getting in at 1:00 p.m., and got confirmation that we would be able get in. When we finally got the owners on the phone, it was about 2:30, and they showed up at 2:40. Our room was on the small size, and to my chagrin, when I tried to take a shower the next morning, I found that I could not get into the stall. Now, I'm heavy, but I'm not so fat that the fire department would have to cut a hole in a wall to get me out. The problem is that the door to the shower opens in rather than out. Even my friend, who hasn't got an extra ounce of fat on him, found it a tight fit. On the positive, as I said above, the owners are very nice. The house is beautiful, and the breakfast the next morning was superb--they don't just leave cold cereal out for guests. I absolutely loved staying at Silverstone Bed and Breakfast! My room was beautiful, very clean and calming. Tim took us on a tour of the house which was a wonderful treat. Having breakfast in the morning in the dining room filled with a lot of my favorite things from china, teapots, and antique furniture topped off my stay. I had no complaints. We decided on this bed and breakfast because we had attended an event earlier in the year in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood and found it to be charming. I always said I wanted to go back and spend a romantic weekend there and explore. The Silverstone seemed like the perfect choice due to the close proximity to the downtown area and because of my love for old houses. For this particular get a way the focus was on relaxation due to some personal issues. For my own sanity I just needed to get away from home and relax. Upon arrival we weren't sure what door to use so we used the one a young lady came out of assuming she was also a guest. We pressed what I assumed was a bell and waited. When no one came we hesitantly went inside and said hello. It was an awkward feeling. We were greeted by Yolanda, a charming woman who we immediately found to be warm and inviting, encouraging us further inside her expansive mansion and to our room (actually we had our choice of two rooms) on the second level. I asked for a tour and was told as a guest we had use of the entire downstairs which consisted of a guest kitchen, a sitting room, 2 foyer type areas, as well as an expansive dining room. A butler's pantry with coffee/tea and another functional kitchen for their breakfast preparation was also on the first floor. The home was lovely and felt just like that, someone's personal home. Upstairs we had our choice of smaller bedroom with private bathroom, or huge bedroom with no bathroom but would have exclusive use of the bathroom in the smaller bedroom. This is what we choose. However when it came time to use the facility and shower I did feel awkward gingerly walking down the hall, round the corner, thru the unused bedroom to reach the bathroom. In hindsight I would not have choose that option again, although our huge room was beautiful and well equipped. There was really no reason for me feeling this way, as I didn't encounter anyone on the way, but my whole perception felt very personal. I know that's the way bed and breakfasts are supposed to be but this one felt more personal and I don't know why. At no time did our host make us feel unwelcome in any way, she was quite the contrary, it was just this feeling I had that everything was too "personal". But I was also very emotional and dealing with a lot of personal issues so I could have just been the mood I was in at the time. Our sleep was not sound and as relaxing as I had wanted and needed. Our "neighbors", a young family from India with a young autistic child were extremely loud. We had not seen them previously and really didn't know at first if the conversations were coming from the owner or another guest. I'm assuming that because of the time difference around 4 AM they started skyping what we thought was India and spoke to at least 6 different relatives. We know this because we heard their entire non English conversation both ways - from them and their relative. They sang, laughed, had their kid converse, etc This went on for HOURS! At one point my husband yelled for them to shut up (against my wishes) but this continued basically until 7am, and we were expected to be at breakfast at 8am. Looking back I wish we didn't ignore the situation. A door separated our room from theirs and we should have knocked and told them to keep it down. I was just in shock that someone would even act like that, and speak so loudly and animated at that hour of the day with other guests surrounding them. I regret not speaking up. I ran into Yolanda in the morning who inquired about our sleep and I gently told her about the early morning antics and she apologized but really I undermined the situation and didn't let her know that we were extremely frustrated and worse of all exhausted. But had she known I don't know what could have been done at that point. Breakfast was delicious but again the experience was slighted because this rude couple allowed their son, 6 years of age at best to wonder about the dining room touching everything, including dishes on our table without uttering a word. Where was this kids parents? They came down a short while later but why was he left unattended in someone's house with antiques and fragile items to begin with? The breakfast was delicious. Yolanda is a dietician and the meal reflected her background on nutrition. The omelet was loaded with healthy vegetables but it was well seasoned and moist. The homemade waffles, a nutrigrain I'm assuming by the color had just a hint of orange zest to them, I loved and eagerly ate everything up. Yolanda was a great host and very friendly and showed genuine concern for our family. I enjoyed meeting her and would have gladly given our stay a 4 star rating had it not been for the rude family next door. read more

This B&B is a stone mansion with over a hundred years of history. Christmas decorations beautifully adorned the welcoming lobby of the house, and our hosts greeted us with smiles and a wonderful sense of humor. I knew we were in for a comfortable stay when Yolanta offered us tea and whisky that was left out for guests to enjoy at any time. The house, aside from the Christmas ornaments, is beautifully decorated. The reception area's red couches and chairs were perfect for sitting with a hot tea or whisky while plotting your next moves during your trip or just vegging out with some email or reading. A full kitchen that you can cook at too is also available along with free parking. Our room was large and lovely, with a claw foot tub in an exceptionally roomy bathroom. There was a generous amount of toiletries included along with a hair dryer. It was hard to escape the clutches of their super comfy tempurpedic mattress in the morning. Breakfast was delicious and during our stay had consisted of omelettes with ham, spinach or cheese, sausages, toast, cut fresh fruit, coffee, juice, and tea, and waffles. Chestnut Hill is just a 12 minute walk away, a street lined with top notch restaurants and cute stores making Silverstone conveniently located for a lovely and quiet night out. Silverstone is a highly recommended stay. You will leave hauntedly happy! read more

This was our first experience with a B&B. Judging from this it will be our only experience. We were told we could use the refrigerator in the common Kitchen area. We placed a bottle of wine a friend had given us, leftovers from our expensive meal in there and a dessert we ordered to go. The next day, all were gone. When I complained about it, our wine suddenly appeared but none of the food. The food in the morning was very lacking. We did not even bother trying to eat it the second day. The noise from the children running around in the other rooms and seemingly on the hallway was loud and early in the morning. The room was drafty and a bit musty smelling. This place is awesome! We stayed here for 12 days and this place was really nice. The B&B is located in an ideal location. Since we didn't have a car, we were able to walk to the little town (Chestnut Hill) for shopping and restaurants within 15 minutes. The train to bring you into Philadelphia for sightseeing was only about an 8 minute walk. The owners (Yolanta, her husband Rom and their son Peter) were excellent hosts. They gave us privacy when we needed it but were available if we needed any help. The breakfasts were fantastic, with fresh eggs from their neighbor and vegetables from their own garden. We had the use of a secondary kitchen which worked out great for us since my friends have a son with special needs and his food has to be specially prepared. We would not have been able to have that ability if we were staying in a hotel or most other B&Bs. We also had laundry facilities available to us which worked out wonderful since we were staying for 12 days. The house is absolutely beautiful, very charming and cozy. I was staying in adjoining rooms with my friends and their son and we shared a bathroom. We would absolutely stay there again! read more

Oh my, what to say.... I ended booking a room here primarily because I could get one that would accommodate 3 adults and not have to book 2 separate rooms. I had read mixed reviews but figured it was one of my only choices. I had to book via the telephone as there wasn't an on-line option, but I got the price and booked our room. There was no confirmation number or email confirmation so I figured the week before I would shoot them an email to confirm. This was based on other reviews that indicated they didn't have a room upon their arrival. The owner emailed me back and said they were full and to try another weekend! Uh oh, we needed to be in Philly and with many graduations that weekend I wasn't so sure I could find another room + I had booked it a couple months in advance. After several phone calls it was determined there was an error and yes our room was booked- come any time but let them know about when. I called midday and gave them our arrival time. When we arrived, I first noted parking is very very limited and I am not sure there are enough spots for guests but luckily we walked to the train and downtown Chestnut Hill. Went inside and there was no one to be found despite calling and looking in all the downstairs rooms. No note or evidence of how you would go about checking in. So I called the owner who asked if I had rung the bell..... What bell? Oh the small ringer bell on the inside of the door jam that you wouldn't notice? Ok, so wife comes down the stairs buttoning up her sweater - guess she was resting. Quickly toured us and then took us to our room. Note - there are no locks on the doors! But there is a latch to use from the inside- good thing because someone tried to come in one morning! So the furnishings are antique and that's fine but the room was dark, stuffed with books and the bathroom was antiquated. A claw tub with 2 sets of handles and the toilet is wedged in the corner next to the tub- those of any size wouldn't be able to use it ! A bottle of pump soap was in the tub and no other toiletries other than some q-tips. The towels were old, thin and rough, completely non-absorbent. The sleeper sofa was killer and the bed decent but feather pillows which I hate. I also kept finding ants walking on me in the room. Onto breakfast..... The innkeeper cooked the first day, it was passable but nothing great . Sorry , if you are serving pancakes, real maple syrup is a must! On Sunday there was a "chef" there "cooking". First of all , she was the rudest I individual I have met, clearly bent out of shape that she had to prepare breakfast for us and then after yelling in from the kitchen if we wanted sun dried tomatoes in our eggs- we didn't and who would? She was super annoyed by this and sarcastically asked if we would want cheese? The scrambled eggs were sad to say the least . After serving us, she went on to tell us we needed to clear the table and put the dirty dishes in the kitchen. Excuse me, weren't we the guests here? Oh, and then the innkeeper wanted to settle up Saturday, no problem , except he asked me the price. I didn't have any written confirmation but told him the price I thought I had been quoted and he said there was no way that was the price! I wasn't going to argue over an extra $35. All in all not horrible, but certainly not returning. read more

Should I start with their request that my wife and I stay somewhere else and the complete disregard for the fact that we had been looking forward to our Febrauary stay since we made our reservation in December. My husband, 2-year old son and I stayed at the Silverstone Bed and Breakfast for 2-weeks when we relocated to the Philly area. This B&B was perfect for us as the location was close to the train, Chestnut hill shopping and dining. Yolanta and her husband are very hands off type of innkeepers and they will let you have your space and pretty much a run of the house. A separate kitchen is available with a refrigerator and cooking utensils/stove. The nightly rate includes a from scratch breakfast (eggs, waffles, coffee, fruit etc). These people are insane. We are traveling en route to a wedding and made a reservation 6 weeks ago for this coming Friday. When we hadn't received the promised confirmation by this past Monday, we called (no answer) and emailed before getting on a plane from California to the East Coast. Last night ( 3 days prior to our reserved date) we received an email saying the bathroom was out of order and our reservation was cancelled. They made no effort to help us find someplace else. And what would have happened if we hadn't gotten in touch? would they have bothered to contact us? What a way to run a business! read more

I spent 3 nights here while in the area to provide care for a family member. I come to the area often and usually stay in one of the chain hotels nearby, but I am very glad I chose to stay at Silverstone B&B during this trip. The owners are very available and radiate such sincere and heartfelt hospitality that it was a comfort to be their guest. The room was spacious and the bed was extra comfortable (a Posturepedic mattress). The bathroom was clean and fully stocked with nice toiletries. The breakfast each morning was made to order and very generous. This is a lovely accommodation in every way. read more

This place is the best! It was a haven after a storm for a friend and I while traveling. We drove through a major storm in route to Philly area, and had booked a reservation for Silverstone b&b just earlier that day. We got in quite late from the storm, and the most comfortable room was waiting for us, it was so pleasant! There was nobody else staying in our wing of the home so we got a bathroom to ourselves as well. Got some rest and in the morning, the owners taught us to make French omelettes for breakfast! It was lovely. We also loved exploring the grounds - our stay couldn't have been better. Great b&b, lovely owners, good experience staying here! read more

Complete disaster! Totally unprofessional behavior on the part of this establishment's proprietor caused us a major hassle. First, I reserved a room for my family for a Saturday night stay at the start of our summer vacation. I spoke directly to the proprietor on the phone, she took the booking info. as well as the credit card number herself, and then sent a follow-up confirmation by e-mail. She then sent an e-mail 4 days before the night of our reservation and cancelled. The reason given was that the roll-away cot she had promised us she could give us in our room, for our child (and for which she charged us extra), would not fit. To be fair, she told me that the room was small on the telephone. But she also told me that it was possible to put a cot in the room and accepted the reservation!!! If she had given us even a week's notice before our travel we might have been able to find another room without any hassle. As it was, the notice was too short. 4 days' notice of a cancellation on a weekend booking in the middle of summer and of the tourist season is completely unprofessional. Even more appalling is that she took our reservation without knowing whether or not the cot would actually fit. I sincerely would not trust these people with your vacation or other travel plans (it's not as if it would have been any better if it had been business travel). read more
