Manayunk Gem. What a find! My wife and I were in Philly visiting our grandchildren for the day. My son surprised us with an overnight stay in this really beautiful B&B. We were going to crash at his house, but he and his wife are looking to buy a house in Manayunk, and wanted our opinion of the town, so they said " we got you a B&B, go explore" and I am so glad we did, as we love going to places we have never been to. My wife went to check in, and I stayed in the car, as I wanted to go look at the town and get some food as we had been on the road for 4 hours. As I sat in the car, I got a surprise of a knock on my window, and it was Mark, one of the owners, who wanted to come introduce himself. I thought that was awesome. He is extremely friendly, and we had a nice chat about the history of the B&B, and the town in general. Mark recommended a couple of great places to eat. We stayed in the English Garden Suite. First and foremost the room was CLEAN! The room was decorated exactly how I expected it to be, fun wallpaper, big king size bed, with big pillows & high ceilings. Mark was kind enough to have the A/C on, as I had called to say we would be there about 2:30, and it was about 95 degrees that day. There was a vintage couch and chair in the room (pics) There was no TV in the room ( Thank God ). The room is perfect for 2 people who haven't over-packed. What the room lacks in size is made up with a huge parlor (pics) downstairs, and a nice sized outdoor porch. In the parlor there is complimentary water, seltzer,coffee, tea, beer and wine! They also had fresh fruit , and candy dishes filled with fun candy, so my wife and I stayed down there for a while listening to the perfectly picked out music playing. The B&B is walking distance to the town, and it's a really fun town to walk around and be a tourist in. There are coffee shops, bars, restaurants, clothing stores, antique stores, (you must check out Jinxed Variety), and an Insomnia cookie shop, and furniture stores. The town even has a vegan bakery, Crust ( we took home some delicious poptarts! ). This B&B is also walking distance to Pretzel Park (look it up). Manayunk is a unique town, lots of hills, pockets of fun areas. I will say the parking can be challenging, but Mark went out of his way to help us...there is street parking, during the day ( pay ), and there is a parking lot that you can stay as long as you want, but you pay by the hour. I believe after 8:00 street parking on Main Street is free. Don't let the parking scare you from coming to this awesome B&B, or this cool town. My biggest regret was that we had to miss breakfast, as we were going antiquing in CT, and well you know how I-95 is. But i am sure you can see from other pictures, and reviews, the breakfast is a real treat here. I look forward to coming back to Manayunk Chambers Guest House, and this fun little town! read more

A beautiful Victorian style bed and breakfast! Mark is a fantastic host who knows how to treat his guests (especially in the morning)! He makes the best breakfasts with melt in your mouth croissants. We ended up having a problem with our room that made the room quite unpleasant to stay in. The owners weren't previously aware of it because it was caused by a recent landscaping project outside the property. When we informed the co-owner Mark about it, and showed him evidence of the problem, he profusely apologized and went to great lengths to find us alternate accommodations. He put us up in another property he and his partner are currently developing in the neighborhood. Unlike the Guest House - which has a charming Gothic / Victorian French styling - the new property has contemporary styling and fixtures, and bold, modernistic color themes and patterns. The property wasn't fully completed but it was completed just enough for us to comfortably stay there. It wasn't spacious (hey, it's Manayunk), but we very much enjoyed the accommodations. As a gesture of good will for the problem with the Guest House room during the first night of our stay, Mark offered to refund the entire bill for the long weekend - including the nights we stayed in the new property. We insisted we pay for the nights we stayed in the new property, but after we arrived home we noticed Mark refunded the entire bill to our credit card (which we paid for in advance). Though we aren't able to provide a helpful review of the Guest House due to our unfortunate experience there, Mark was a wonderful host and he handled our issue with genuine empathy, a sense of urgency, creativity, class and generosity. He turned what could have been a miserable experience into a memorable one. read more

We stayed at Manayunk Chambers Guest House for our anniversary weekend and couldn't have been happier. The building is somehow both imperially gorgeous and cozy at the same time, from the plants adorning the front stoop that usher you up and in through the door, to the intricately-decorated entryway and front room that serves as a lounge and breakfast area, to the actual rooms that are each a beautiful slice of history and erase the stress and drama of real life with the turn of a skeleton key. Everything oozes visual interest, as if pieces of a museum exhibit were tucked in every nook and around every corner. Our host, Mark, was generous, accommodating, and extremely knowledgeable about the area. He was a born-and-bred Manayunkian, and his excitement for and love of the neighborhood was contagious and made us appreciate everything it had to offer that much more. He was also kind, thoughtful, and an AMAZING baker and cook! I seriously cannot overstate how delicious all the food and drinks he prepared were. I also can't recommend any place to stay more highly than this. Our entire stay was full of care and attention to detail in a unique, special way. I highly recommend the Manayunk Chambers Guest House if anyone is looking for something different from the ordinary. I wish I could give six (6) stars! My wife and I found the location very convenient to Center City Philadelphia and the northern suburbs, the bed comfortable, the rooms tasteful in decor and the breakfast exceptional. We were there three (3) nights and Mark, the innkeeper, got to know our likes. Mark is a professional pastry chef and is up at 4 AM to bake the muffins, scones, and bread that is available in the breakfast bread basket. Along with the bread basket, breakfast includes yogurt over fruit, freshly prepared eggs, salad, and meats. I was looking for a location near our friends who live near Manayunk, and found this B&B. We asked Mark if we could entertain our friends in the living room of the Guest House. He agreed. We had wine and cheese and when Mark saw that - he brought out some grapes to go along with the food. My wife and Mark got into a discussion about pea soup. The last night Mark & Neil cooked up some pea soup and invited us and our friends to enjoy - with a freshly baked loaf of French bread to go with it! This is typical of the outstanding service Mark and Neil provide to their guests. Manayunk is a vibrant neighborhood, set in an old mill town, which offers an easy 25 minute commute to Center City Philadelphia via the Norristown / Manayunk Regional Rail line which provides frequent service (at least hourly) until 11:30 at night. The Guest House is a five minute walk from the station! (N.B. If you have a Medicare card, the fare is $1 each way!) The Schuylkill Expressway (I-76 exit 338) is also 5 minutes away -except in morning rush then 15 minutes. I counted 35 restaurants of varied nationalities (including a brewery with its own restaurant and sushi chef) within 0.6 miles (1 km) of the Guest House on Main Street. The Main Street sidewalk is part of the Schuylkill River Trail up to where the Trail turns to The Manayunk Canal towpath which varies between crushed stone and wooden boardwalk. The River Trail extends for 26 miles -- excellent for biking or walking. My wife and I will find reasons to visit Philadelphia and slowly see all the history and the museums this fair city has to offer - while we stay again and again at the Manayunk Chambers Guest House. read more

The innkeeper at MCGH is a busy guy and texted ahead to see what time we'd be arriving. Mark drives all over Eastern Pennsylvania sourcing the very finest, freshest, and healthiest ingredients for the sumptuous breakfasts he prepares and the rolls, scones, croissants and other delicacies (home made granola) he bakes in the inn's kitchen. Also made available to guests are snacks, coffee, wine, and water. We were fortunate to stay in a room on the second floor which easily accommodated a very comfortable king sized bed, a small sofa, and a chair. This room had its own bathroom, albeit a rather compact one reminiscent of many in European hotels. All facilities have been upgraded to contemporary standards (Restoration Hardware?); an old-fashioned skeleton key secures your room. It was raining when we arrived, and we pulled into the small driveway next to the house. The cheery proprietor came out and helped to unload our belongings and bring them up the steep flight of stairs. Parking can be challenging in this quaint Philadelphia neighborhood, but Mark provided us with a code to use for free parking in a 24-hr public lot a couple of blocks down the hill. In spite of this, when we ultimately went to park there at 11 pm on a Saturday night, the only spaces available were for cars with handicapped plates or tags (we had one). If you don't have a car, or choose not to drive during your stay, the Manayunk commuter rail station is just down the block to take you into Center City. Close by, too, are numerous excellent restaurants and cute shops selling everything from handmade clothing to fresh-cut flowers. We can recommend Manayunk Chambers to anyone who appreciates personal attention, kindness, and old-fashioned hospitality. If you're looking for a pool, a workout room, and a full-service bar in the lobby, this won't meet your needs. read more

If I could give it higher than 5 stars, I would- I cannot say enough good things about my stay with my husband here! I kid not, we will never stay anywhere else in Philly! This is now our go to place every visit! They hit all the big musts for an overnight stay: 1) COMFORTABLE BED AND CLEAN ROOM: We had an AMAZING nights sleep and the room was spotless. Not only was the room lovely- the beautiful private bathroom had an wonderfully relaxing shower (which makes a big difference to me). 2) INCREDIBLE BREAKFAST: When we booked they asked if my husband and I had any allergies or preferences (glutton free, dairy free, etc). We told him we love all food- no restrictions! When we checked in he asked what time we would like to eat- we came downstairs at the appointed time and he had a spread of muffins, scones, breads, juice, tea/coffee, as well as a rosemary fruit salad with honey yogurt. And that was just to start! The main course was 2 poached eggs over a thick slice of wheat toast, with local smoked ham, asparagus and a pesto stuffed jersey tomatoes. One of the best meals I've had in months!! Worth the price of the stay alone. 3) SERVICE: Mark, the innkeeper was amazingly hospitable and available at all times if we had any questions. He was also flexible with letting us drop off our bags/checking in early, since our flights timed out oddly. Thanks for making us feel so welcome! 4) LOCATION: They are just off Main street in Manayuk- which is an adorable part of town filled with restaurants, boutiques, salons, a book store, music/vinyl store, a lovely wooden tow path along the canal. They also are within easy access to public transportation- We took the train from the airport and it couldn't have been smoother. They also hit a whole host of little things I never would have even thought of: 1) Fresh Flowers all over the place (It is summer and such a nice touch!) 2) Beverages including Tea, Coffee, Water, Wine and Beer were available 24 hours in the parlor 3) Umbrellas in the entry hall, in case it rains during your stay and you didn't pack one (I definitely didn't!!) 4) Fireplaces and AC in every room (for the respective seasons) 5) Well decorated without feeling crowded by a million relics or Tchotchkes filling every crevice. It's lovely and clean- with a sense of history and grandeur. 6) Board games, books and magazines in the parlor, in case you want to spend a rainy day or evening around the house 7) Free (and fast) Wifi Can't wait for our next stay!! read more

I'm not sure where to begin because I have so many wonderful things to say about The chambers guest house. This is the second year that me and my boyfriend have had the pleasure of staying there and all I can say is wow! What a sweet and comfy oasis in the city. The rooms are lush and spotless. Mark, the owner, pays attention to every detail you can imagine. All your needs are met and then some. Fantastic customer service! I have stayed in many a B&B and this is by far one of my favorites. The breakfast is one of the best I've ever had! Mark's culinary skills shine brilliantly in every dish and they are all absolutely delicious. The pastries are out of this world and all homemade. I am seriously considering calling mark and asking him to make me a basket of pastry delights and sending them to me. I've been thinking about them ever since we left.... What an amazing experience. From the time we checked in to the time we left. Mark greeted us upon arrival. My husband, me and another couple arrived for our night get away. He was a very gracious and friendly host. The rooms were decorated beautifully and comfortable. The beds are comfortable and we slept like babies. Morning breakfast was fantastic. Started with and amazing freshly made pineapple yogurt with cilantro. An assortment of freshly baked goods and to finish off our breakfast, a delicious frittata. I've been meaning to write this review forever. I loved this place so much I couldn't find the words to make it sound as amazing as it is. Mark, the host, honestly could not have been any better. My husband said "he's spoiling us." Which he's never said about anything before. The property is luxe, stunning and incredibly tasteful. The rooms are beautiful, well thought out and designed. The vibe here is amazing. The outside area is private and quaint, surrounded by plants and flowers, with plenty of seating for your group or significant other. These things are nice but not what made this place stand out to me and my husband. What makes this place extraordinary is the host, Mark. He's incredibly friendly, totally humble and really sweet. He didn't overstay his welcome while chatting with my husband and I but he was very nice to talk to. And the main event? His breakfast So. Much. Food. Crepes and fresh fruit, perfectly poached eggs (which are nearly impossible to find) canadian bacon, a wide variety of breads... And then some. It was delicious and so nice to wake up to. He also offers a variety of teas and coffee or espresso. I forgot to mention that he offers you beer or wine upon arrival. The location is a short walk to all things worth seeing in Manayunk. We had an AMAZING stay at the Guest House. We arrived very early in the morning and Mark had no problem with allowing us to sleep in the room as soon as we arrived with no extra charge. The room was very comfortable and clean. The living room is beautiful and well-stocked with coffees, teas, water, sodas, white and red wine. The next morning, we woke up late but he still prepared a delicious breakfast for us prior to our departure. We arrived and greeted by Mark ( one of the owners). After a short orientation, he assisted us to our room which was the nicest, coziest, clean bedroom ever! We chatted with him a little and then we left to explore Manayunk. Breakfast the next day was homemade crepes with fresh fruits and fresh herbs! Mark is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. This was our second stay at the guest house and we didn't know that it was possible for it to get better but it did! The bed room was a dream in vintage style (but new) wallpaper applied beautifully.Despite 90plus temperatures outside,the whole house was as cool as a cucumber and Mark was his warm personable self ,exactly matching the decor of the house ; which is warm and personable throughout with too many surprising details to describe in this review. The food, the food ,the food, was "scaled back" now its merely overwhelming with an assortment of fresh baked scones muffins rolls and a grain bread with a fruit crepes and a lovely fritatta for one breakfast along with a fruit course, orange juice, and coffee and tea! I rolled out of there with a full enough belly to last me til 3pm. Also my fellow guests were lovely people, i think Mark has a good nose for who he allows in his worked on for years and it shows lovely house. My husband and i now think of Philadelphia, as place to go and not just for the gardens,musuems,murals,music but for this house and the neighborhood its in. Manayunk Chambers is the definition of a hidden gem. Tucked away on a quiet side street but steps away from the train station and all of Main Street's shops and restaurants, this place truly feels like a home away from home. Mark is the consummate host, devoted to making his guests comfortable (and full!). The breakfast is to die for; Mark is a former pastry chef, and we had unbelievable homemade scones, muffins, croissants, and bread, all before the main course! Mark goes above and beyond with all the little things that really matter: special gluten free bread for a guest, extra late checkout on a hot day with a late flight, beer and wine in the fridge, an umbrella or map or tourist tip, the list goes on.
