Within the walls of Zanshin is also the DaJoGen School of MMA and home of local fight team Chaos. The benefit of all three is a beautiful marriage of experience you'll find nowhere else. The following Martial Arts Styles are offered at Zanshin: Aikido Brazilian Jujitsu Jiu-Jitsu (Jujutsu/Jujitsu) Judo Karate Kick Boxing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Muay Thai Boxing 2. As far as gyms go, this is by far the nicest MMA gym in the area. I dont know of any other gym with a spring board floor catered to MMA and fitness. The equipment is top notch with a variety of bags and cardio equipment. You can walk into this newer gym and work out side by side with world class athletes. The best part is, you dont have to be a world class athlete to train here! The ambiance here is like a big family in addition to being family friendly. As a beginner to the sport of MMA, i found the DaJoGen school of MMA to be a great way to condition myself for my triathlon season and i didnt feel like i was lost in the class. 3. ***WARNING!!! Its addicting and probably the best fitness training you'll get. At any given time, you can be training with people of all professions from active military soldiers and professional fighters there for specific training to college students and house wives there for fitness. The variety of attendees is a unique experience and great networking. 4.Here's a video tip DaJoGen puts out monthly on their Facebook account that gives a glimpse into the conditioning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGOwCHfbTaM&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL 5. As far as equipment you'll need, you can buy anything you dont already have at the gym. The bonus is the gym doesn't try to make any money off of you on product sales. They're genuinely there for the love of the sport. I would suggest 3 things: Boxing gloves Mouth guard Shin guards

The training here is just amazing. Top notch athletes and coaches!!read more

They both really like that they are being taught real-life defensive skills as well as the martial "art," and I can see marked growth in their self confidence and assertiveness. The older daughter comes as often as she can. The younger, homebody daughter rarely leaves the house enthusiastically for anything, but is always in a good mood by the end of class. They both tried classes at another martial arts facility in town, but felt that this one was more welcoming and supportive.

There are only a handful of Poekoelan schools in the entire country, and Corvallis is incredibly lucky to have one. Geoff Wathen, the founder of Golden Naga and the main instructor, has put a ton of personal TLC into the development of the school, and it shows, in the quality of the instruction and the dedication of the students. Geoff himself is an amazing practitioner, a fantastic teacher, and an all around great human being. Definitely check the school out; you will be glad you did.

My 9 year old son has been practicing Ki Aikido for about 2 1/2 years now. I started him in this…read morediscipline because I took martial arts classes as a kid and found that it helped my focus, discipline and respect for others. It has had exactly that effect on my son. I could not be happier with the instructors (Senseis). They are supportive, attentive, yet strict with their expectation that the students pay attention during class. They have helped my son to learn the basics of the art, and now they are showing him some of the more advanced movements he will learn. My son has had a history of starting an activity, then not wanting to finish what he started. Ki Aikido is the exception. Occasionally, he has a little trouble getting going on Saturday morning, but once we approach the dojo, he can't wait to get inside. This group of people teaches without compensation for themselves, other than their satisfaction with the positive influence their efforts bring to our community. In their terms, they extend Ki in Corvallis. The price for these classes is nominal. I suspect it's barely enough to maintain their dojo. The philosophy they teach is peaceful if at all possible. If a peaceful resolution is not possible, then the responses they teach are formidable to be sure. My son has flourished under their tutelage. He has become some one I can be very proud of. I believe these instructors at the Ki Aikido dojo have much to do with that. Just a quick reminder, they have moved into a new location on 4th St. just north of the downtown area. Thanks to all of the Senseis!
