I am thoroughly pleased with the instruction that I receive at Reason Taekwondo. Before I moved to…read moreEugene, OR, I searched for a local dojang that was similar to the training that I had become accustomed to at other gyms. When I found one, I thought that it was decent enough. However, with each passing week, I loathed having to train there. After the awareness of the coronavirus and subsequent quarantine, I became certain that I would not return. I did not want to abandon my training; so when it was deemed safer to meet in-person with guidelines, I researched gyms. Reason Taekwondo is where I chose to train. The instructor is knowledgeable, provides rigorous warm-ups, and is professional. This dojang is not as large as the one in Eugene, but it is clean, neat, and adequate. My 120 mile round-trip is worth the drive.

We emphasize character qualities like respect, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, leadership, self-confidence, goal-setting, and serving others by participating in various community service projects. We also work on developing muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, agility, balance, coordination, and body fat reduction. And of course we train people in self-defense by teaching the Korean martial arts of Taekwondo and Hapkido. We also train with offensive weapons like nunchucks, combat sticks, and bo staff, as well as learn defensive strategies against weapons like knives and guns.

I started bringing my son in for Taekwondo lessons after Mrs. VP taught a lesson at my sons school. She also handed out free first month and uniform vouchers which was a great incentive to start. I drive about 30 min to bring my son twice a week and joined my son in the family Taekwondo classes. I thought I'd have to find a closer and cheaper martial arts school when we first started but I quickly found out that it was defiantly worth the investment for my sons future.

They do provide healthy activities for children and adults, but also examples of respect, discipline, and courtesy for everyone. During the shutdown they maintained an online schedule and as we all emerge they have practices in place to do so safely. They have ramped up their already thorough cleaning procedures, adjusted class sizes for extra distancing, and modified lessons reducing equipment use. They can monitor everyone who comes in and still provide high quality education. Having this opportunity gives students and parents a place to interact responsibly, and having the school open to go to gives me motivation to suit up and show up for my own benefit as well as to help other students.

It was my…read moreintroduction into martial arts of any kind and certainly kept me from becoming one of America's fattest children. It was the first time in my life I was able to do splits and really apply my ability to defend myself. Though my philosophy on self-defense / combat has changed considerably through my current practices of Jeet Kune Do, I still have a lot of respect for those who take the time to practice some aspect of self-defense. It's awesome for fitness and provides some level of self-discipline while channeling a whole new level of self-confidence. The process of belt promotions and facilities maintenance is sure to have changed since I first attended years ago. There were all sorts of students ranging from various ages and an even number of boys and girls. Prices were modest back then and are likely to be significantly higher now. Just remember that engaging in any type of martial arts is going to be pricey, it just depends on how what you might consider reasonable. For those who are looking for something different and a nice way to get fit, I encourage those in the area to seek Dave to begin a new journey in martial arts.

Dave was serious about martial arts and did not appear to be a "belt mill" as I perceived others at the time. Later my husband took Take Kwan Do from Dave. Dave cross trained with another school. I did not participate due to pregnancy. Biases aside, I noticed Dave's students had better form and control.
