Nice local hair salon. Sim is easy going and friendly. Have been going there for over a year. Prices are reasonable.

Unfortunately my rating is reflective of NOT being serviced by this salon. After several…read moreconversations with the owner (in person) as well as the female stylist who was scheduled to cut and blow dry my hair (over the phone), I was told they could do what I needed (cut from 3 inches past my shoulders-long to shoulder length and blow dry naturally curly hair). I arrived on time to my appointment, after driving 20 minutes from home and paying for parking only to be seated and looked over by the female stylist several times sighing and going back and forth between saying she could and could not cut my hair. She gave no particular reason, just kept touching it and looking at and repeatedly went back and forth until after ten minutes of being prodded like a zoo animal decided enough was enough. I was able to book a last minute appointment at M Salon in Eastchester and they gave me EXACTLY the shoulder length cut and style I wanted in less than an hour with only a picture and a few words for direction. Very DISAPPOINTED in Salon Shige as my 3-year old son had a great haircut experience with the owner a few months back that prompted me to try them for my own hair. I've had my hair cut and styled almost exclusively in the past ten years by Japanese salons in NYC, so I really can't figure out why this one salon found my hair difficult to work with. Looking at the pictures of the other customers, my hair is similar to many of their past customers. Oh well. My son won't be returning either.

Salon Shige charges 35 bucks for a spanking nice men's haircut with great service. The only con is he is a solo act so the more you like him, the less I'll like you for booking up my slots.

The cut is so good that as it grows out over the next weeks, it maintains its shape, angles, and style. Akane uses Japanese products to color hair as well, which are different (and less toxic) than other (Shige explained why to me, and it became more scientific than I imagined was possible). Perhaps best of all .. they listen. They match your face and personality to a style that flatters. There is a Japanese belief that beauty comes from within. Go. You can pay 3 times more and still not get as good a cut.

The first two times were great and everyone was very accommodating. The first trip I got a color and cut. I forgot her name but the stylist gave me a more natural color and cut. The next day, I came in for and up-do for a wedding. She was able to understand what I was looking for and added her special touch. Based on that experience, of course I would come back. However, this time around I was a bit disappointed with their customer service. I walked in an hour before they closed and was hoping they would take me for a cut and color. I sat there for 20 min before with no one greeting me. When I finally spoke to someone he just told me no there is not enough time. There was no suggestion or offer to make an appointment. I tried my luck again the next day and again I sat there without being greeted for another 15 min. to be told again that they can't see me. I am just frustrated with the lack of communication and no attempt to schedule an appointment with me. I am highly disappointed with their customer service esp. from good stylists. I would recommend for them to get someone to work the front desk.
