I booked my blowout about a month in advance for my graduation with Mariana, who I usually go to. When I arrived, I was told Mariana was busy with another client and asked if someone else could do my hair. Unfortunately, I said yes, and I was really disappointed. The wash felt rushed, and my long hair was blow-dried in about 20 minutes. The ends were left straight, and even after I asked for them to be curled inward, the final result still looked unfinished, like I had done it myself. Update - The salon reached out to me to discuss my concerns and offered to make it up to me via either another appointment or a refund of my payment. I decided to take the refund. While I wasn't happy with the service provided, their response and follow-up was very professional and they've spoken with the stylist. Very disappointed in the service that I received at this salon today. I was a very last minute booking for a haircut and blowout. Went in and while everyone including my stylist was pleasant, I had a very mediocre haircut and then when discussing the blowout that I had booked, I said that I didn't want it blown straight, as I wanted to check the cut with my natural curly hair as I usually just blow the roots dry a bit and then let the rest dry naturally. Maybe it was a miscommunication, but she blew the roots dry and then just did a little bit more drying, and then kept asking if I wanted it more dry - I said yes a couple of times, but after she asked the second time - I had the feeling that she didn't really care to do any more work and basically I was done. Hair was still wet in places when I left. She She didn't check the cut when dry, didn't show me the back or sides at all with a mirror - nothing. I did ask her to check the length as it looked uneven. She said it was fine. Next morning - I see that that there are longer pieces everywhere and that the bottom wasn't cut well at all. I knew it felt wrong the way she was cutting and didn't check. See pics of all the random long bits. Normally all my haircuts take an hour or so, and she only took around 10 minutes. I basically got the feeling that she just didn't want to be cutting my hair or blowing it dry as I had booked for. Anyway, I left with super flyaway hair and no styling for $120(which was supposed to be a cut and blowdry) including tip (guilt - I always have to tip) I have no problem paying for good service, but I was in and out in about 20 minutes including my shampoo, and blowdry. If I was cutting into someone's lunch time - then they shouldn't have had the time open for appointments. Very very disappointing. Definitely not a premium salon. read more

I had made my appointment with Jessica Kachmar through their website for a plain haircut. After doing some research I found out she's actually one of the owners of the salon so I was super eager and excited to see how my hair would turn out since I knew she'd be the one cutting it. In the past I've gone to both high end and low end salons and never really ended up satisfied with my end result, so being that this was highly rated I was Both nervous but excited to see how it would go. I've never been to this salon before and I was surprised to find it was in a big old historic looking building in a side street by the river. When you walk in it definitely gives you an old industrial vibe which I thought was awesome. I walked around the hall and found the salon with big glass doors at the entrance- my first impression was that it was a gorgeous salon! From the music to the layout and how kind the staff was I loved the entire vibe of the space. The gentleman that washed my hair was very kind and Jessica was also so great- she asked me what I wanted and gave me exactly what I asked for unlike some salons that do the complete opposite of what you want. She also cut my hair with a razor which I've never had done which I'm assuming is what gave me the type of layering that I wanted. She styled my hair at the end as well with a wand and it turned out beautiful. Although it was a bit pricy for a haircut, I do think it's fair considering the level of expertise and the location of the salon. This was my third appointment with Dionna, and she continues to never disappoint! She takes the time to sit down with you before starting to listen to the ideas you might have, any issues that you are experiencing with your hair, and provide her professional recommendations on what would meet both your vision and needs. She really takes the time to understand why exactly you are looking for and executes it so perfectly! I was on the fence about either doing my usual lob cut or reviving my hair with some layers and curtain bangs and we agreed on the layers and curtain bangs so I wouldn't have to sacrifice any length and also continue having a low-maintenance cut. I must say this - she has a way with curtain bangs so that they fall and lay perfectly! I also started developing scalp psoriasis and Dionna recommended products that would address and treat my scalp issues. She recommends products that she uses herself which is a bonus. I just got my hair done but I'm already looking forward to my next wash day to try out these amazing shampoo, deep conditioner and heat protectant spray. Made an online appointment for color touch-up and trim. The color was fine, but I was informed during the appointment that they don't do trims, only full-price cuts. I was also informed during the appointment that there wouldn't be enough time for a cut. If my appointment time didn't allow for the two procedures, then (a) the online system should not have allowed me to make the appointment, or (b) someone should have followed up with me directly (well before the appointment) to reschedule. Don't blame the customer for the shortcomings of your scheduling system! Both my colorist and shampoo girl clearly did not want to be working the evening shift (when my appointment was)--don't offer evening hours if no one actually wants to provide service then! Lackadaisical, disinterested attitudes on both their parts. They sent me out into the cold night with soaking wet hair. read more

I am so picky about who touches my hair and trust me when I say that. After days of searching through yelp and asking around for recommendations, I came across this hidden gem here on yelp. Let me start by saying that I really wanted to love this place. Yesterday (3/9/2021) I went in and met with Marisa and showed her pictures of 2 previous balayage that I've had. She instantly asked me if I liked that color and if I thought it was too warm because of the yellow in my skin. I told her that that's what I liked. I noticed she had foils on the tray and before she put in the first foil I asked her is this balayage? Her response was it's foliage it's a combination between balayage and foil, "for the look that I want achieve for you, it's softer." I didn't ask what she thought looked good for my hair. I went in asking for specific things to be done. She began to tease and foil my hair. After about 2.5 hours another woman (I think it was the owner) approached and said that my color was lifting good and asked Marisa what color was she doing and Marisa's response was "I'm compromising with her and going caramel." At no point did I say I wanted caramel, or did she say that she was going to do caramel. The color that I had shown her was a warm color leaning towards reddish brown. Once she took out the foils she brushed my hair with the bleach still in it and it felt like every strand of hair was being pulled from my head. I could hear the breakage with every single brush stroke. I'm not used the this type of process but I think there should be a more gentle way of unteasing hair and not damaging my hair or scalp. As I am now at home the next day with a sore scalp and a massive headache. I feel as if I was in a hair pulling contest that's how much it hurts right now. She put in the first gloss and raved about how good it looked but she said she was going to add something else and I would like it more. So she added a second gloss and left it in for 2 minutes. After the gloss was shampooed out she dried just the front so that I can see the color. It was an ashy blonde caramel exactly as Marisa wanted. Not what I wanted or asked for. She quickly said it's a light brown and I replied no this is too light that's not what I want. I wanted it warmer and showed her the original pictures again. She followed with "OK, we will go warmer and darker." When I got back to the chair after the 3rd gloss she said "I can't believe I tried to fool you and say it was a light brown" she went on to say "you were like no it's blonde" She blew out my hair and said about making a note in my file about needing extra time because I have so much hair, which is understandable. At no point was there talk about being charge for extra product. When I paid the bill I was charged $525. $25 for extra product, Marisa said that she wasn't charging me for the extra time that it was on her. Do you charge people for less product when they have shorter hair? I have never been charge so much, not even in the city and been so unhappy on top of that. I always get my hair done in the city, my former stylist moved back to California and I decided to give a salon in Westchester a chance. Big mistake. To the owner of The Beauty Parlor please speak to your stylist about following simple directions and giving the client what they want and are paying for versus what the stylist wants. I asked for balayage and got foils, this was not the look that I wanted. But it's so dark so who knows what it really looks like. I wanted the balayage look, not "the soft" look Marisa wanted. Doesn't even look remotely close to what I wanted or what I showed her. I left almost 6 hours later with my hair looking like I never got highlights, it's now dull and ashy, not the tone or color I wanted, a sore scalp, even the next day and down $$. Essentially a complete waste of my time. My hair looked lighter when I got there than when I left. When I got home I realized that I have gloss on my hairline and in my ear because it was not washed out properly. The only positive thing I can say is that the cut is decent and if you want a nice view while getting your hair done this is the place. To say I am unhappy would be a total understatement. Update - I have little knots on my scalp from how hard she brushed my hair when brushing out the teased foils. That's why I have a headache and a sore scalp. read more

I'm pretty upset at this place. I've been here twice, and most recently I came and spent over $300 for baylage and what I was told was Olaplex treatment.... When I met with the woman to do my hair, I told her that my hair is very fine and I need Olaplex put in when she dyes the hair to prevent breakage. She said "sure no problem" and got to work on my hair. Its been a few months, and my hair is falling apart at the tips, so I decided that I'd go back to get a tone and another Olaplex treatment. When I went to book, I was told that they dont carry Olaplex. As you can imagine, I am pretty floored to hear that as I was literally told I received Olaplex the last time I went, and PAID for something extra - god knows what. I'm so pissed as I specifically asked for a product to be used, was told that it was - only to find out later that it wasnt. I will NOT be going back, and maybe others should reconsider too as they are deceptive here. read more
