I wish everyone in Frankfort would use the dog park instead of the Plank Trail as that would keep the Trail free of dog poo. That would be good for everyone else on the Trail and the dogs would be happy also. It is easy to register, pay the nominal fee and get a key card at the Park District office. Frankfort IS a hell of a lot more appealing since this park is there though. $50 and proof of your pup's shots gets you a year long membership. Included in that is private access to a massive enclosure that's all soft grass. There's shaded areas, free poop bags, and a time out section if your dog gets a little too excited to be frolicking out in the sun. It's honestly my dog's favorite place to play, and I don't even mind driving about 45 minutes from the city to do so.

They have a couple of large parking lots there to stash your vehicle while visiting. One of the main entrances is right past one of the Tinley Park fire stations. Many paved trails to walk around the lake, with a high route and a low route to vary up the scenery. On the high elevation they have a number of picnic tables and the like for those that want to have a meal. They also have a large playground there for the kids to keep busy while the parents chill. The lower route is mainly for jogging and walking ... although you'll find a lot of bikes in the area also. At the other end you'll find baseball and soccer fields, skateboard, and basketball too. They also have a little dock off which you can fish. Be forewarned - no dogs allowed, which is good for some people and not so much for others. This is a sort of difficult kind of place to find, but that keeps it a treasure.

I really enjoyed my evening out it was restful and gave me a sense of calm even though this is in the the middle of a really busy suburb. Didn't hear any cars, horns, sirens or anything like that. It is truly an amazing place weather you are the for sports, to go on a walk or run, to skate during the winter season, to boat or fish in the lake, swim during a hot day, watch a concert, or take your kids to the wonderful park. I would totally recommend this complex for all listed things I can think of.

The staff is caring and friendly and really get to know your dogs…read more I appreciated getting a friendly tour of the space (kennels included), as well as, the detailed questionnaire on the form and doggie audition to determine friendliness and comparability. I've only used the daycare "canine college." The space is HUGE (about 5x the size compared to our former Chicago go-to). It includes a nice indoor and outdoor area with a roll up door so pups can choose where they want to be. All dogs are mixed right now but they have plans to create a small dog area. There's a web cam to check on them during the day if they're inside and you get cute pictures shared via text after you pick them up. I really appreciate that the staff pays attention too. One of my pups is a senior and they let me know when her leg was shaking one day. Really makes you feel like they're watching out for them. The only two small downsides are that there's no discount for your 2nd dog and they're so popular getting a reservation is tricky. Luckily they're always willing to put your pups on the waitlist and confirm the day before if they have space for you.

Of all the things the Cook County Forest Preserve did over the years, preserving thousands of acres for the enjoyment of the people is probably the number one benefit. This is a delightful little trail head that leads to others. This one is called Catalina Grove and it is listed as a family picnic area. It also has a walking trail that hooks up to many others in the area. As part of a much larger system, if you begin here, you can walk or bike for miles...even over to the trails in Tinley Park and Chicago Heights. There is adequate parking here for your car. Since this is one in a number of starting points, this is really an out and back point in your walk/hike. Unless you have a bike and intend on going miles, this place is not a circular route that will bring you back to the start. Bring water and be prepared for a nifty jaunt through the south suburbs. Give this place a try and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Many birds to see and hear as well. The trails don't let you go close to the marsh for waterfowl viewing unfortunately. The fenced in dog park is huge.

The instructors who actually swim with the dogs are consistently lovely, kind, and attentive (Julian especially), and the facilities are clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, the customer service and administrative processes completely undermine those positives. Last August, after my friend's dog Maverick passed away, she contacted Doggy Paddle to transfer his remaining swims to me as a goodwill gesture in his memory (he swam there regularly for several years). Doggy Paddle accepted the transfer -- they requested and received my dog's vet records the same day. However, I never received any confirmation via email or text showing how many swims were transferred, what type they were, or when they expired. There is also no online portal or way for customers to check their balance or expiration dates. Over the following months, Doggy Paddle emailed me multiple times asking for a fecal test, which reasonably implied the swims were active. At no point did anyone mention an expiration date or warn that the swims were nearing expiration. When I attempted to schedule a swim this month, I was told the transferred swims had expired and that I needed to purchase a new package. Apparently, the swims my friend had purchased had expired one year after purchase, on January 1, 2026. When I called to discuss this, they acknowledged there had been no communication on their part to confirm the package was transferred or to share terms/conditions, but repeatedly stated that it was my responsibility to ask or my friend's responsibility to tell me the expiration date, and that expiration dates do not reset upon transfer. They refused to make any exception or accommodation and said there was "nothing they could do." Sorry, but asking my grieving friend when her passed dog's swim packages expired wasn't a priority. This should have been on Doggy Paddle to communicate to the customer at time of transfer. They'd already earned the money from the previous sale; they lost nothing by extending the expiration date a little longer. I requested that they extend the expiration by four weeks and we'd come swim during that time, and they said no. Scheduling itself is also unnecessarily frustrating. You can only book via text or email, which often becomes a long back-and-forth, and there is no transparency about available times -- you can't see a schedule, only ask and wait for someone to tell you what's open. Holding customers to expiration policies that were never disclosed, combined with limited scheduling access and no account visibility, is extremely frustrating. The lack of empathy given the context -- a transfer following a dog's death -- made the experience even more disappointing. It's unfortunate, because the staff and facility are unique in Chicago. My dog loves swimming and we relied on Doggy Paddle during rehab, but I will not go again. This was a senseless policy to hold the line on given the circumstances.
