I wish everyone in Frankfort would use the dog park instead of the Plank Trail as that would keep the Trail free of dog poo. That would be good for everyone else on the Trail and the dogs would be happy also. It is easy to register, pay the nominal fee and get a key card at the Park District office. Frankfort IS a hell of a lot more appealing since this park is there though. $50 and proof of your pup's shots gets you a year long membership. Included in that is private access to a massive enclosure that's all soft grass. There's shaded areas, free poop bags, and a time out section if your dog gets a little too excited to be frolicking out in the sun. It's honestly my dog's favorite place to play, and I don't even mind driving about 45 minutes from the city to do so.

The Nature Center has been redone, and it looks great, and the hiking trails are pretty good. Yes, this part of Illinois is mostly unremarkable for wildlife, but in just a few minutes, we found a tangle of snakes near us sunning in a pond (it's a brain teaser to count how many, see attached). Plum Creek is also famous for its hill. Even in springtime, it's fun to see who can run up and down the fastest. Of course, when there's snow, the competition is really on.

This is actually a pretty good sized park for there not being much to do or look at inside. For sure this park is pretty basic. It's good enough for the neighborhood kids maybe. This is actually pretty boring compared to the rest of the Pullman area and the other things.

While the Sprinter van was charging, I took the time to enjoy this space. It was originally a fully functioning farm that was purchased by Colonel Robert Heffron Murray and his wife in 1934. After Colonel Murray passed away in 1972, his estate donated the land to Porter County. Now, it has walking trails, an accessible playground, some learning and caption signs and even cross-country skiing. The park offers seasonal tent camping. No RVs or cars or trailer campsites.
