I had heard how amazing this place was from a friend, and so I asked my husband for one of their cakes for my birthday. Nothing special, I just wanted a delicious cake. SO not impressed. First off, for an 8 inch round, which was the smallest they could do, with absolutely NO decorations, it was $50. Second, the cake was ok, but was so overly sweet, I could barely eat it (and I LOVE sugar). It was white cake with white chocolate mousse & raspberries inside. And third, the frosting, was disgusting. I've had buttercream, both French & American, and this was nothing like I've ever had before. We didn't know that their French Buttercream was actually going to be NOTHING BUT BUTTER. Yes, their online menu says 100% butter, but we thought there would be flavoring or something added to it. My fiancé and I decided to make an appointment with them to get more information on their cakes. However, our appointment was NOT a good experience. The customer service was greatly lacking. The guy we met with didn't seem to care about our business and wasn't very professional. I LOVE Simon Lee Bakery. I chose Simon Lee to make my wedding cake and chose their petit fours, which are actually the size of a generous serving of cake. They are so fantastic, they melt in your mouth like a Crispy Creme donut! I still got a cake topper, to save for my first anniversary and I swear that it was so fresh on our anniversary, you would never have guessed it had been frozen for a year. I opted for a very simple design, with just my husband and my initials. But I have seen some of the incredible cakes they make, one looks exactly like the UT Tower. So happy I decided to use Simon Lee for my wedding cake and our grooms cake. I have to agree with some of the other reviews in regards to the professionalism. We felt the same way, when we walked in there was no one there to greet us, we stood around awkwardly for about 5 minutes. We had an appointment so they knew we were coming, a little strange. The tasting went well. We enjoyed may flavors and decided to go with a 3 tier cake each with a different flavor. I knew I wanted a simple cake with some bling and she made it happen for a decent price! We also did a grooms cake, the Dallas Cowboys field, which turned out great! It had real goal posts and everything. Defiantly a hit at the reception! They were also very nice and helpful when we were int he final week of the wedding and realized we missed the last two payments! Oops! They had no problem and let us make the payments late with no addition charge or hassle. I would also like to point out that the consultation and tasting was free. We went to another place which charged us $25 for our tasting, which they forgot we had scheduled, and had us try the flavors via cupcake. Free consultation is very important because it shows how the company values your time and wants your business. I came to Simon Lee bakery for my wedding cake, on the recommendation of my sister. The hardest part in dealing with them was deciding on which flavor to choose: there were 6-8 flavors during the cake tasting including strawberry, white (not my favorite), yellow, chocolate, etc... the pina colada (with real chunks of pineapple) and the chocolate were the stand outs: flavor packed, not too sweet, and moist. Judy was attentive and designed a gorgeous cake (we ordered one that required parts of the cake to look like wood - not a traditional tiered cake covered in fondant) - the attention to detail and artistry really impressed me. I had ordered my wedding cake from here. Judy Lee is a great designer and baker, but terribly disorganized. She was hard to reach and never really answered my emails. I called her about adding a cake topper. She said just to email her photos and dimensions of it. When I did, I heard no response. Closer to the day of my wedding I had my husband call and he was told to take the cake topper into the shop. When I did, they seemed confused as to why I was there. I was really excited to go here for my consultation but when we got there it looked like a condemned old bakery first of all, barely and lights with a million show cakes on one wall. Granted, THEY ARE GORGEOUS. But me and my fiance were forced to stand around because they only had a small sitting area which was taken up by someone else who wandered in off the street and took our much needed consultation (We had drove 2 hours). So after WAY TO LONG of waiting, we were asked what cake we would like to try and then left WAITING AGAIN. So you would assume, if you were waiting so long for cake it would be fantastic. But the chocolate we tried was CHOCOLATE to the extreme. MILK PLEASE! And I'm a chocolate lover so thats saying something. And the white cake with strawberries was just that. White cake with some whipped cream and strawberries in the middle. After an HOUR AND A HALF of mostly waiting, while STANDING we were given an estimate of almost 900 dollars!! Before I went to my appointment today I took some time to read some of the reviews on this Bakery. Well I have to agree with another person totally. Everything happened just as she had posted here. I tried calling to let Judy know i was on my way the didn't answer the phone. When we got there my friends and I, we were standing there for 5-10 minutes before someone acknowledged us. The picture bookes were dated there were several books but they each had the same pictures in them, the place looked old and somewhat dirty. When Judy finally did sit down with us she immediately asked how much we wanted to spend. Not once did she ask what flavors we wanted or anything to that nature. My friend had to tell her we wanted to taste samples. Judy then gets up goes in the back for like 20 minutes while she was in the back we kept hearing the microwave timmer go off. We thougt they may have been heating up lunch. But that was not the case I guess they were thawing out the cake samples. Finally she comes back with 3 saucers of cake samples there was the Orange cake it was really wet, the chocolate cake tasted like it had been in the refrigerator too long and it was not moist at all, The Pina Colada cake was too wet as well, The Strawberry cream one was not moist even the whip cream was dry, The Cream cheese one was not that great but it was a bit moist. Then Judy sits down and asked what I wanted to spend and said we have cakes that start at $800.00 up to $1000.00 my friend asked well what does a $500.00 cake look like and she really didn't say she just said it would have a couple foam tiers. Then the iceing on the cake (so to speak) was when I had showed her the cake I wanted she said it would be over $700 but she could do it like another one she pointed too that was the same tiers as the one I was interested in and she said she could do it for $600 I was left a bit bewilder as to what was the big difference in the two cakes that one had to be almost $800? she then gets up to go in the back for us to be able to discuss things well she never returned. My friend had to yell excuse me twice before she came out. I guess if you are not willing to spend over $1000.00 for a cake they don't want to be bothered which is the vibe I got and so did my friends. Needless to say...They wont be getting my business at all. Oh By the way the Strip mall that the Bakery is located looks deserted and like all the businesses were going or had gone out of businessl I was very disappointed. read more

I called to inquire about purchasing a cake, and rather than talk about any cake sizes or options that could fit within my budget, they informed me that their cakes were entirely too pricey for me to afford. As a former cake decorator who knows cakes, and as a marketing and communications designer, I am appalled. I have no idea what their price structure is, especially with their sparse poorly designed website. I had to search for their phone number on google; it was not listed on their website. Perhaps they don't want people to call them because they are already aware of how rude they are. Best Cakes Ever! We used Simon Lee Bakery for both our wedding and groom's cakes. They were both custom cakes designed at our tasting. I could not have enough good things to say about the individuals we worked with and the quality of the cakes. Simon and Judy were great to work with, they responded promptly to questions, payment was easy to arrange in installments and all details were confirmed by the bakery. The cakes were gorgeous/spectacular and our guests have commented that they were the best cakes they have ever tasted. We had a strawberry wedding cake with butter cream icing and fresh strawberries in 2 layers and strawberry ganache in the other 2 layers. Our grooms cake was chocolate with fondant icing and a rum, strawberry and kiwi filling. We were not huge fans of fondant icing from out other experiences but we thought it tasted great. Both cakes were excellent, not too rich or sweet, but still moist and flavorful. Also, the tasting was a great experience and was really unusual compared to the others we attended because of all the different flavors we were allowed to taste and we were allowed to bring an extra person (MOG) without any charge. Judy was also able to take all the pictures of cakes we had liked and design something during the tasting that incorporated everything we liked about each cake. The showroom is amazing as well and a great place to see all their amazing products. We will be using this bakery from now on for any cake we need, it is worth every penny. read more

I ordered the cake for my event one month ahead of my party which I told them I would like to have it on March21th,2014. Then a week later I called a guy who works their as a frontdesk and told him that I would like to have my cake done on March20th,2014 instead of March21st, 2014. I did called him 2 times and reminded him that you must put on the right date because it is very important for me and my family. The guy frontdesk said " yes! I will put the right date for u" then hanged up really quickly. On March 20th I went to pick up my cake. But they told me My order is March 21st not March 20th but I told them I did called and changed the date. ( I do have my cell phone date record of the date I called them!) anyways, the owner told me to come back that day and picked up the cake around 4 pm. I drove from San Antonio in the morning and arrived there around 1:30 pm and they told me to come back again at 4 pm to pick up my cake. I would love to have my cake for my event on Sat. So I have to come back to pick it up at 4 pm that day because there is no time that I could be able find the other cake store for my groom cake!!! So we came back at 4 pm then they gave the cake to me. The bad thing is the frontdesk guy said "it was not his fault" I guess it is not his problem because he action and words showed me that he was not considering how important of my time, and money. How I could order the wrong date for my wedding cake!! Yes, I placed the ordered for the birthday cake instead of saying this is my groom cake because this place is pricy!!! $$$ Yes, I did paid them the full price no discount because I had no time to have an argument and I need to get back and be ready for my wedding day on Sat.( which I had so many things to do ahead) Believe me, I will tell all my friends, family, and clients to not order cake from here because (1) Bad Service (2) Over price (3) the cake taste is O.K I hope this information will help you !! read more

I made the initial call and spoke with Judy. She assured me that she could get the cakes done even with short notice. Judy met with me on a Sunday to finalize details because I do not live in her area. Long story short, Judy not only got the cakes delivered on time they were absolutely beautiful and exactly what we had ordered. Simon Lee Bakery in Pflugerville is just as good as its word of mouth advertising. We called so many bakeries before selecting them. My daughter is a perfectionist and had a vision for this cake. The finished product was lovely and tasted delicious. The groom's cake was elegant with its chocolate drizzle and covered strawberries. Everyone raved about both. I came into Austin from another state for the wedding and was very appreciative that Judy called my daughter the day of the ceremony to touch base on the design. I had gone to a couple of other bakers before we had an appointment with Simon Lee. While all the bakers were great, with Simon Lee I felt like my dream cake was coming true.
