The mildly interesting glass blowing room at Simon Pearce.

So, it was weird to drive from Boston, through Vermont, and end up at an outlet store staffed by those with a certain level of NYC/FL snowbird rudeness and abruptness. Don't ask to dine in the restaurant if you haven't booked reservations three weeks out, and heaven help you if you ask for your glass items to be boxed for travel! The restaurant hostess will cut you off mid-sentence and tsk tsk you for not knowing to make reservations. She has no suggestions where else to eat in town. The cashier is similarly abrupt, barely wanting to engage anything more than minimally getting through the transaction, she rolls her eyes handing off the fragile items to a colleague and disdainfully says: Box for travel, no ribbon. The location is beautiful and the glassblowing room is mildly interesting even if you've seen better pedigree glass blowing sites like Corning, Steuben, Chihuly... Oh well. Not impressed with Simone Pearce Customer Care. Dismissive and "Sorry for your experience" is not what Customer Care looks like.

Beautiful, simple, and very expensive handmade blown glass and pottery. Made in Vermont, onsite, Simon Pearce is a nice place to stop and check out. You can watch them blow the glass and make the pottery right there which is really cool. The grounds and buildings are simply clean and well decorated. The prices are out of this world high. Like $45 for a glass tree ornament and $80 for a wine glass or highball. You know it is expensive when I can not even afford the "Seconds" which are also offered.

Awesome experience watching them glassblowing- they were making red wine glasses. So so cool to watch the process I understand why their glass is the price it is. I would come back here again in heartbeat because most of the store was "seconds" meaning there were minor imperfections. I don't mind that though it makes them unique. Also less expensive than their "perfect pieces" I literally wanted everything. It's such high quality and so beautiful- it's hard not to want everything.

Love Simon Pearce. They are having a Labor Day sale for 20% off "seconds," pottery and glass with minor (and I mean minor) defects. Pottery with a little bubble just broadcasts handmade. You want to go pick out your own seconds bc they are all different. I prefer bubbles in the glaze to brown spots. You also want to check that your items don't rock. Yelp says "closed today" but that isn't right. Beautiful crafts, nice people.

This is a great outlet store. Many of the same items as the full price store but with tiny imperfections that are mostly not noticeable.

First I will say that I have no issue with the craftsmanship of the bowls I received. The carving…read morewas flawless. What I want everyone to know before they give up significant cash for these bowls is, the bowl you receive will look significantly different from the bowls they picture. Their website has beautifully stained bowls, but you will receive raw wood. You can compare the two in the picture I have provided. They were to be a gift, but the raw wood covered with prominent markings from wood imperfections is not gift material. When I asked why the bowls shipped were so different from their pictures, Mia said, "The pictures from the website are of 'Mature' bowls, that develop that color over time." If it is not obvious to you, this is false- other than wood exposed to sun and weather, wood does not change its color over time. Wood certainly doesn't change to a lustrous stained look by itself! These can be pricey to ship, and they only refund the value of the bowls. I am out $77 in shipping both ways due to their deception. I cannot stain the bowls and have them cure of the VOC's before Christmas, so I had few options. I will pursue getting that money back. Finally, they boast that these bowls have 100% 5 star ratings. They use Judge.me for their reviews, which allows them to remove any reviews they don't like. I posted a two star review, showing these pictures, and it was removed. Just one more of their deceptions.

Part of the way home, we spotted the Twitchell House on the left side of route 30 as we were motoring South. The Twitchell House is seriously an entire house (and barn and tent and yard) full of antiques. We probably spent two hours poking through all the rooms, digging up all sorts of neat little trinkets. GF got a soldering iron shaped like a pistol and some funky tins. I got a mid-century cake tin for a baker friend, an old glass ink well, a set of 1920s fake pearls, a 1940s black fox muff that I am so excited to rock the hell out of this winter...I think that's all I got...but it definitely wasn't all I wanted to get. The owners are also pretty awesome, and super chatty. They love their collection and they've carefully labeled everything in the building. If you're ever in Southern Vermont looking for an adventure, this is definitely a worthwhile stop.

Prices were flexible and low, there wasn't a single item I looked at that I wasn't willing to pay full sticker price. We are trying to keep our place minimal and we have all of the furniture we need, but we did get these two amazing rugs. She did say that she usually doesn't do rugs, but that she got these on a gut feeling. They are in tough shape, and in need of a good cleaning, but they were a CRAZY good deal and exactly what I was searching for. If I were opening a restaurant or a boutique, or just looking to furnish my place, I would schlep up here as my first stop.
