Looking to catch some great live music on Wednesday and Sunday evenings in Andersonville, Chicago? This is the spot! One of the oldest bars in the area, this cozy dive bar offers a relaxed, friendly vibe--and whoever curates their live music is doing an incredible job. I've been twice, and both times the bands were amazing. There's no cover charge on those nights, but be sure to bring cash for drinks--that's all they accept. Definitely worth checking out whenever you're in the neighborhood!

Famous old bar in Andersonville. It's the one with the Viking fish. Simon's is also known for glogg, a warm mulled wine. Good stuff for anyone liking warm cocktails. The prices are pretty cheap on most things. A lot of history is here. It's a bar that's been here a long time for sure. They do a lot of things the old way. It's expected. Have some money on you. Cash only. It's about $5 to get a beer on tap. Has the basics. Lots of cheap things like Hamm's and Old Style. Also they have glogg. This is warm and has a punch. Pretty much it's the signature drink. This is okay for what it is. Has no food. They let you bring in some. Good old classic. It's cash only. Try some of the glogg, which is served starting in fall to winter.

Honestly the service and ambiance make this place. Definitely some serious dive vibes. Super old school from wall paper to tables. Lots of character and I'm into it. If you're in the market for a comfortable, affordable and quaint neighborhood pup, go here. I got a mic ultra which is my fav trash beer. The bar tender was funny about how he never has them. Stoked. There were a ton of options here for all. Clean bathrooms for those who care like me. Great location. Cheers

Great old Swedish dive bar with a Nautical theme. Cash only. On a tour. Saw where the speakeasy was and learned the history of the owner and possible deaths there during Prohibition. The old cracking mural has a ghost story behind it. Come and relax. No food. No frills at all.

A great local spot that's been around forever. I had a chicago handshake for the first time here and it was great. Nice vibe and cool jukebox

Cash only dive bar. Some Chicago history. Not my usual kind of place but absolutely will stumble in here again for a more thorough review.

One of Chicago's greatest taverns! Simon's has the best jukebox, which is continually being updated with everything from jazz, to the latest in indie rock and rap. If you haven't been to Simon's for Glogg season, you haven't lived! I love coming here during all seasons, but especially during Glogg season, as the place is so festive. Belly up to the longggggg bar, and be kind to the hard working servers. I was recently here where two young whipper snappers had no scratch on them, and proclaimed "I've never paid with cash at a bar before." Simon's is CASH ONLY, but there's an ATM right inside. They'll also card ya hard if you look a shade under 40, so don't take it personally, that's the Tavern way! Nightcap at Simon's?! Yeah, of course!

This place is fun! Our friends came for Schlitz on draft, which is apparently quite rare in Chicago! I had some glogg (mulled wine) and a beer. Fun atmosphere, nice people, great place to hang out.

Simon's Tavern is an Andersonville staple. Please note: This place is CASH ONLY. ATM inside. Located right in the middle of the Andersonville neighborhood on Clark street, Simon's Tavern is a divey bar that you can't miss. With the big neon fish sign hovering overhead, you'll know you've arrived. Drink selection has all that one may want and then some. For those who happen to stumble in after Thanksgiving, I must recommend their AMAZING mulled wine which I find myself waiting all year for. Prices are reasonable for the area. Servers are excellent and down-to-earth. It's a bit of a long bar so service may take some time when it's busy. There are two TVs at both ends of the bar which make this more of a place to have conversations rather than watching sports with the entire bar. There's also a jukebox here with a solid selection of music. Take time to explore some of the hidden gems on the playlist or play some tried-and-true classics. Don't ever change, Simon's. 5/5. A neighborhood favorite. Always a fun time when I bring a friend down here.

Because it is located in the lobby of the apartment building, it is not something you see from the street. The bar itself is very small, but there are multiple seating options outside of the actual bar. You are permitted to take your drink to the lobby or to the outside patio area. Both are nice and allow for a pleasant drinking experience, but folks that live in the building sit there as well, on laptops or reading. The vibe of the bar is super chill, with this crazy red hue that I love. I am not a big cocktail person per se, but if you are into them like The Queen is, then you are in for a treat. There are also non-alcoholic selections for wines, beers and cocktails for those that require that. In addition they also have bubbles, so that is a win for me. In addition to great cocktails and bubbles, they also do "Summer Movie Nights" on the patio. You can bring a blanket, grab a drink and enjoy. Larry's does not serve food, but you can order something to eat from The Uptown Deli (which has good sandwiches). There is street parking on Sheridan and it is about two blocks from the Lawrence Street El stop (once it opens again). Now that I am aware of its existence, I will be back to chill and have bubbles, and maybe catch a movie.

Alas, my catchphrase being "I eat and I know things" means ordering food is a given. That was a mistake, but not as bad as whoever made the decisions behind the Heartbreaker Burger. Let me start with the good. I started with the M&M shot, a simple yet tasty, and not face-melting combo of mescal and Montenegro. I drink spirits neat, so YMMV, but something I wouldn't mind ordering again. Next, I tried the Vieux Carre: a solidly executed classic with balanced flavors and spirit-forward without going overboard. While the bevvies are not mind-blowing, the prices are low - In the year of our Lord 2026, $12-13 for a cocktail in Chicago is almost unheard of outside of happy hour. The vibe is old-timey and retro. Loads of wood, exposed brick, and wallpaper that your great aunt probably had. There are a few game-heads on the walls, for I guess great uncle likes to hunt. There is also a piece of art on the walls that, feels almost like it can go in a museum, but not quite. Let's say this: gentlemen, I would advise against brining a date here, lest you be tempted to look a little too long. Alas, we've now arrived at the abomination that is the, perhaps aptly named, Heartbreaker burger. To start, it was wrapped in foil and tasted through and through as though it's been sitting under a heater for at least an hour. The lettuce within had time to wilt due to the heat, making it go from a positive addition, past neutral, and into negative. The patty missed the mark: In this case, Smasburger applies to the thinness, and not at all to a roasty, crispy, Maillard-y consistency. Between the thin piece of strongly favored meat, and bun a little too large and dense, all other ingredients lost their presence. Further, If felt the burger was so bready, I removed the top bun and turned it into a fork and knife affair. I'm all for burgers getting wider, rather than only so tall one can't open their jaw so far, but not like this. Hardly worth mentioning are the sides of Tater Tots and Queso. Both weren't heartbreaking, but at the same time, wholly unremarkable. Felt as though I could easily beat these with a quick stop at Aldi. I've no complaints about the service. Since I came right around opening, it was very quiet. Still, I was well-taken care of, and things came out relatively quickly. Final verdict: Sweethearts Bar makes inexpensive, solid classic cocktails in a mostly retro vibe. However, the alleged-smashburger left a bad taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively, spoiling the experience. Would return?: Probably not. There was nothing on the menu that I couldn't easily and cheaply recreate myself. Would recommend?: Also probably not. If you're looking to catch up with a group in a space without a TV, Sweethearts and its cheap drinks aren't a bad deal. For all other cases, I would not recommend.

There is outdoor seating under a pergola lined with semi-private planters, while the inside features a bar, high tops, low tops, and large booths. The music was upbeat, giving the space an elevated lounge vibe that pairs really well with the upholstered booths and vintage industrial design. I ordered the Wolf Burger, which is a whopping three-patty burger. That first bite was juicy and pure bliss--a total explosion of great flavors. It was a little messy (like all burgers with an egg), but the extra liquid was perfect for balancing the density of such a meaty burger. The soft bun soaked in a lot of those juices with each bite, intensifying the flavor as I ate more. The fries were thin and on the greasier side--not my personal favorite, but they worked alright as a vehicle for the sauce. Speaking of which, the chili aioli served with the fries was fantastic. We also got the mac and cheese, which hit a great balance between rich and creamy without feeling excessively wet. The boat it came in was a bit small, making it a little messy to scoop out with the serving spoon, but it was soooo good. Overall, it is absolutely a fantastic neighborhood place for comfort food and drinks with friends in a great space!

The lounge still has the booths and tables as options if you don't want to sit at the bar, but me and The Queen sat at the bar. Uptown sort of reminds me of a TARDIS, it is bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside when you are just strolling by. spread out around its surprisingly spacious interior. The Queen ordered the Raspberry Beret and said it was great, followed by a Blakes's El Chavo cider (Habanero and Mango). She is big lover of ciders and according to her they have a decent list to select from. They also serve coffee in the morning, which is new for me. Not sure how that work in terms of the place being open and I don't know if they allow you to bring food into the place or not, I didn't think to ask. I do remember back in the day you could order from Papa Ray's (which closed some time ago), I will have to inquire about this as it would be nice to spend a leisurely nosh over drinks while sitting at the bar.
