Went there last night very spontaneously. We decided to grab dinner at En Hakkore, which is next door. We found out they don't sell alcohol but they suggested we grab our food to go and head next door to Lemming's Tavern because those two place are cool like that! Whoa! That totally worked for us. Pretty cool dive bar that played great music, has a great beer and drinks selections (mine was Old Fashioned and his Moscow Mule), lots of bar games (some include cards, chess, Jenga, sorry and more), game room (one free pool table and two flippers), to my surprise they have live performances (have to guess on weekends) and has a nice atmosphere! Bartender was very attentive, friendly and fast. They do not offer food, but you're welcome to bring your own! Great place to hang out with friends. We'll be back!

What a fun night! Huge thank you to John for the drinks, banter, and warding off the creeps from my girlfriend and I. Chill vibes, excellent drinks (even though they don't have skrewball), and humorous locals. We'll be back!

Sweet bartender. Ask about the jerky.

Dear Lord, how I loved it here. The bartender couldn't have been nicer. Gave us samples of beer, and genuinely seemed proud of the place (turns out he's the manager). Great beer selection. Totally unpretentious. Great selection of music playing. If you are a West Coast hophead, you'll find some IPAs to your liking (Bells Two Hearted, Lagunitas, Founders All Day). No food other than exotic jerky and Zapps chips, which is fine. I would bring a sleeping bag and move in here if I could. Neighborhood seems kind of douchebaggy so this is a welcome respite.

    Gotta love the Schlitz globe

Have a shot of Malort. No, seriously. Do it. You'll love it. I promise. Call it a dive bar. Call it a neighborhood bar. Depending on who you talk with, it could be defined as either. No matter how you define it, Lemmings is a comfy, non-pretentious bar with plenty of room a few TV's, a pool table, music and a pinball machine. Count on Lemmings for real 16oz pints (no cheaters). 3 Floyds Gumballhead = $6 Pabst = $2.75 Cheap beer? Busch Cans = $2.50

I can't believe I have not yet reviewed this fine establishment. This is where I tend to go when I just need a bit of a getaway. It has it all, a very old carved bar, pews, a fun group of wayward souls, chalkboard with a big beer list, and well chosen music. You can order food from some other place, or bring it in, if need be. So, what I'm trying to say is that they don't serve food, I guess. It's also very close to the 606. So you can continue your walk over here for a beer. Why, yes, it's a somewhat hidden gem.

Quintessential neighborhood bar. Friendly staff. Good mix of patroons. A clean, well-lighted place. Hemingway would be proud. They fill the back room with a billiard table and two pinball machines. Everything is immaculate and meticulously cared for. You can tell the owners are proud of their establishment. Ordered beer on draft and received an excellent hefty pour of a pint. I recommend their Xmas ale now on draft. Cheers!

So I visited it in her stead (another benefit of subscribing to AfterActionReport.info). Quite simply the best maintained dive bar I have ever had the pleasure of drinking in and an AAR Must Drink. Most dive bars have a fair amount of seed and are in need of some repair, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not this place, as the spotless tile floor was completely intact, all the swivel barstools (each branded "Richard's Bar" across the back) still swiveled, and the tin ceiling stunning. It's coming up on a hundred years, but the entire joint has been as lovingly cared for as it is cleaned daily. The place has a slight smell of cigarettes. When I mentioned to Joe the bartender, that "I didn't think you could still legally smoke in a bar in this country." He replied "You can't, but people do," as he placed an ashtray next to my beer. All that, and Norm Wendt's brother-in-law bought me a bottle of Old Style because it was his birthday, which was drunk while listening to Steve Lawrence on the jukebox. Norm Wendt's sister then recommended a place for fondue so . . . Located in Old Town, Geja's Cafe is a very romantic warren of a restaurant that offers the best fondue in Chicago. A father/son team ("the Marios") served me the International (tenderloin, shrimp, chicken), a solid Flackhattan and some live flamenco guitar.

By that time I was already a "Past" smoker so it really didn't have to much of an effect on me other than the air around you was smelled much nicer. What made me bring up this ancient issue was our party of five left La Scarola restaurant this past Sunday night and went next door to Richard's Bar, where for the first time this century I encountered a bar where everyone was smoking! I must say, that this flash from the past was actually rather refreshing and nostalgic. Would I or could I frequent this establishment - No. Was it fun for the 45 minutes we were there - Yes. This bar was packed with bar fly's, characters, gamers, mavericks and oddballs; and, I loved it! Leave it to Chicago, to have a place like this, that you probably will never see again unless you go to third world country. All I can say about Richard's Bar is WOW!!!!!!!

It's a reasonably-priced busy dive bar in the heart of Chicago. I asked the bartender if she had a beer + shot deal and she said "no, but you can order a beer and shot." And so we did! Noise level is fairly high, thanks to a lively crowd plus a jukebox. They don't normally serve food but I think are fine with customers bringing in your own food, and you can also place an order from a nearby restaurant (I don't recall which one). And yes, it's cash only so bring some money if you don't want to pay ATM fees! 4 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. I like bars that allow customers to bring (or order) their own food - it allows for all diets! The one thing I'd like to see is more beer on tap - even just one good rotating local beer (e.g., Goose Island). Draft beer has smaller environmental footprints compared to bottled or canned.

After a quick ID check at the door, the bouncer let us know it's cash only (thankfully we came prepared). From the moment we walked in, dim lighting, loud music, and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds gave the vibe of a full-on frat party, but not in a bad way. It's chaotic, energetic, and unapologetically no-frills. There's even a self-serve cooler with drink prices clearly listed underneath. I grabbed a Sapporo Premium, brought it to the counter, and our friendly bartender broke our change and offered a chilled glass to pour it into. Simple and efficient. That said, it was loud, so loud that even whispering-distance conversations were a struggle. The space is small, seating is limited, and since we couldn't snag a spot, we ended up leaving shortly after finishing our drinks. This feels like a better weekday hang than a packed weekend night. Still, if you're looking for a classic, gritty, no-frills dive experience, Rossi's delivers exactly that.
