For the most part, I think Yelp is spot on in with their ratings and I've had a very good experience with their ratings for restaurants. However, my experiences deviate significantly when it comes to professional services. Most of the time, it is very difficult to distinguish the professional business that takes the #1 spot vs. say those that are in the top 2-5 because 2-4 reviews can make the difference between the #1 and the #10 spot. For our services, we really had to shop around. I went through personal referrals, Yelp, word-of-mouth, alternate review sites...you name it I've done it all. The pricing, reliability, and the scope of work that the lawyer does for the client varies tremendously. Whether you choose to believe this review or not (because I make a very very favorable case for Mr. Singer), you should do your due diligence by checking at least 5 lawyers to see the differences. You'll be surprised to see a huge discrepancy in areas such as pricing (and that's what you can see). For most who are going through the immigration process, pricing is an issue. This is no chump change going through this process of getting a green card. Some quotes I received was high as 10k and some were 5k ...some would provide over the top (and unnecessary services as accompanying you to the green card interview, which is not necessary for most). If you do the legwork, you'll be able to cover for many of these things and reduce your cost. At the end of day, you want someone like Mr. Singer who is extremely reliable and meticulous. He had the time to review our documents and went over and beyond by providing additional time than what was agreed on for the service. He was very thorough, reviewing the documentation line by line. As for trying to reach him, he is always accessible (some lawyers want an appointment 2-3 days in advance which is absolutely ridiculous) and give you a slot or two of time when they are available. I can't possibly recommend lawyers like that. Mr. Singer is definitely available you won't be running into issues like this. While I cannot disclose pricing here, he is extremely price competitive (you can check 4-5 places if you don't believe me) and he is a extremely experienced and meticulous lawyer who I can trust. Eric beat back two separate aggravated felony charges ICE brought against me in two separate removal proceedings over the last 4 years that arose out of the same old incident from 7 years ago and he got me released from detention as a result each time and preserved my lawful resident status. We don't really need them when our lives are at peace, but these are the people who can probably help us the most when problems occur. In that sense, finding attorney Eric Singer on yelp was one of the best things that happened to me recently. Singer Immigration law firm is located in the heart of Bethesda, right next to Union Jack's British pub. It is not too far from the Bethesda metro stop, and there are plenty of street parking spots (metered coin) available. Initially, a friend referred a different immigration lawyer to us, who is one of the most 5 star reviewed immigration lawyers on yelp. Trusting our friend's judgment, great yelp reviews and avvo reviews, we were going to hire her. However, I started to get frustrated as I realized how difficult it was to reach her. Her policy was to respond within 24 hours, which meant, If I emailed her a simple questions (ex. Can I call you sometime to discuss about our appointment), then she would write me back in next 24 hours saying I could call her the following day. Unless she called me, which she did within 24 hours, our simple correspondences would take anywhere between 24~48 hours, and I decided that I couldn't work with her. Great yelp reviews are always important and helpful in making our choices in anything these days. However, when you are looking for a professional service provider, such as a lawyer, you need to do your due diligence and research a little more. Here are some factors to consider when finding a great lawyer: 1. How is his/her reputation? (Check yelp, avvo, martindale) 2. How experienced is he/she? (Check firm's website bio, linkedin) Note: It is always better to hire someone who specializes in the area of law you are interested in. (ex. Immigration law, Patent law, Real estate law, etc) 3. Is he/she responsive? (For me, this is just as important as #1, and #2, and trust me, you absolutely NEED a lawyer who responds quickly) 4. Does he/she respect and care about the client (YOU)? Is he/she professional? Yes, as long as the lawyer gets the job done, you would think that it does not matter whether your lawyer cares about you, but you will in fact realize that it does matter. (Back to #3, if he doesn't respond well every time you contact, it means he just doesn't care about your case very much so you need to find a better lawyer). And if your lawyer treats you like a dumb person, would you like to work with him? 5. Can you work with this person? You have to be able to trust your lawyer and communicate together.
