My child's various tubes I had to constantly untangle. Not to mention the oxygen taped to his face I tried to untwist.

While at Keesler AFB my child was having troubles breathing. At the ER we learned it was bronchiolitis and transferred here. To begin with, the pedatric staff appeared very friendly and engaging. However, I believe there are major leadership issues here. The standard of care is incredibly low whether due to nurse burnout from the pandemic, lack of nursing staff and in turn support, and general acceptance of poor care. People deserve better. During that time my husband had to work so I was alone with our infant. Multiple times we were told one parent had to stay all the time, so I stayed without a break in the tiny room. My mobile infant was given an IV and oxygen for breathing. So, in my opinion, I shouldn't leave him alone because seems like a health risk if the IV was pulled out or he chokes with a twisted oxygen tube. Nurses taught me how to untwist it because they were busy and seemed confused I asked. As well as untangling him from cords. I was brought a pen and paper so I could also track his diapers and feedings. Monitors were beeping constantly, nurses said there was a central station that notified them but I had to call to get someone to turn it off whereas the doctor said they don't have a central monitor station. Sometimes they'd go off for 30+ minutes, get turned off and resume beeping 5 seconds after a nurse left. I was shocked that as I was handling all this alone 4 different "busy" nurses and staff came to ask back to back about contacting finance to make sure my insurance info was corrected. Because I missed ONE phone call. While I'm watching my sick infant. The second night my husband argued with a nurse who came in with a trainee. Because I hadn't been able to leave the room. And on his way in the switching shifts were congregating and chatting at the main desk. Again, we were told someone had to stay and then the nurse said..."Well, you can ask 'if' we have time because parents have dumped kids on us before." And then I was told to "open my mouth if I need help". After that, my infant threw up on his bed and we notified the nurses. As I cleaned him up another nurse came in and dropped off linens - clearly expecting us to change his sheets. My husband was trying to leave to drive all the way back to base at 10pm. Why were we even here? Oh. And the nurse earlier hadn't even noticed my baby's oxygen had been turned off for at least an hour. And his discharge depended on time off oxygen. That night my husband tried to get us out of here but we were informed by the doctor insurance wouldn't cover his "care" then. The doctor also said that his staff was doing everything they were supposed to and that all this was "standard care" in the U.S. If that is how this is seen, let me tell you it's not. You deserve better and I've been treated better when hospitalized in Minnesota. I've worked in an OR in Illinois and I've cared for people better. I contacted our pediatrician at home and told her. She informed me that in Minnesota, parents are not expected to act like nurses. If all the nurses and doctors think this is acceptable then it isn't a small problem, it's clearly leadership failing. The best nurse we had was the trainee in pediatrics. She deserves that recognition because she was the only nurse who visited, saw my child's tangled oxygen tube and took the tubing apart to straighten it of her own volition. Perhaps it's because she's new and not burnt out. I don't know, but I hope she doesn't lose that. I'm adding a picture of what my child's setup looked like. Because, again, I was expected to monitor him like this for 2 days without leaving the room or a break. And the day of discharge I basically harassed the nurses to remove his IV once we knew we were leaving. There's more, but remembering this is exhausting. I almost didn't cause I wanted to forget it since we've been back home away from Mississippi. But then I received a bill for "observation services" rendered from here over what insurance didn't cover. What a joke.

The people make this hospital. They are always smiling, very professional, very helpful, and extremely friendly. The nursing staff could not be better. They show professionalism while maintaining that personal touch and a great sense of humor. The gift shop has a good selection at fair prices while the cafeteria has excellent food at a very good price. Both have the most awesome people I've ever encountered in this environment. If someone leaves a negative review please look at the reviewer because there's absolutely nothing wrong and everything right here. GREAT JOB ADMINISTRATION! Had to change from 5 to 3. Unfortunately there is someone dishonest at this hospital. My wife's $800 phone was stolen and their "security" will not investigate. Watch your valuables!

Neck brace in the waiting room for 3+ hours

I wouldn't not believe how horrible of a service i have received at this hospital. I was injured in a car accident at 7:20 pm and was admitted to this location via ambulance at 7:40 pm. I have been sitting in this lobby for the past 4 hours im excruciating pain and a neck brave. I got my vitals done as soon as i got to the hospital and they haven't touched me since. The young woman at the counter was not helpful at all. She said there were 8 people in front of me and I clearly saw 4 of them leave. I am still waiting as I type this. I do not recommend this hospital especially in regard to emergencies.
