Had an appointment set up for the 1st and even received confirmation. Upon arrival, was told that person was not even scheduled that day. Very nonchalant, never an apology or any communication. Set up a second appointment, showed up a FEW minutes late and was told that Joey had "already bounced." It was the first time being late due to having to air up a tire and being completely stood up the appointment prior. You can get a good haircut depending on who you choose here, but the customer service is lacking. Also be careful using the ATM machine here, I was charged more than one fee when I used it! read more

This was a pleasant surprise to find out about. I had recently been looking for a new barber / beard stylist. The generic hair cut shops were just not cutting it, and wouldn't listen to my requests, often leading to some haircuts I was definitely not pleased with. Enter... Single Barrel Barbershop! The staff here were all very friendly. There was some controlled chaos going on, as there isn't a big waiting area and if there is a line, the children in the area can be quite loud. My barber did a great job and we chatted throughout, helping pass the time. You do have to pay in cash, but there is an ATM located inside. Definitely make a reservation, but it has to be done via phone call. They don't have them available online yet. Hopefully they'll get that figured out soon. read more

I had an appointment with Mark Shadix it is the worse haircut I have ever had in my life. I've been getting the same haircut for about 6 years and it's never been this bad. I literally showed a photo of what I wanted and he said it was no problem. He went completely off script. Didn't even bother to do the line up around my head. The corners of my head look nothing like the photo. Very little effort was put into my haircut. Wasn't even able to give me a proper skin fade. Maybe I'm just used to a higher standard. Great barber. Friendly, pretty quick and professional. Rob did a great job and was personable. **A few things to note: it's a cash-only (or check) shop. This isn't easily identifiable on the website nor does the information appear on the emailed appointment confirmation (which you should do as they get busy). Other shops I've been to haven't done this. This really should be more prominent in 2020 and esp. during COVID where so many places are card-only. They do offer an ATM, but there's a $2.50 fee and my branch charged me another $6 because apparently it did an inquiry and then the withdraw. Turned out to be noticeably more costly than expected. I know now, but newbies, here's your heads up! Also, during COVID at least, you must wait outside until called. Not a big deal, just make sure you have appropriate attire for the weather!** Will return for sure, just costly annoyances on the first go. read more

This place is something else, my wife was 5 minutes late for an apt for our 9-year-old son and Whitney made a fuss about it and complained to the owner. It wasn't even a great haircut for over $30 dollars. I would look elsewhere in the Birmingham area. read more

Went in there on a Saturday morning and waited for some time. After a about twenty minutes I approached a barber and was told that he couldn't attend to me as they were too overfilled with appointments, even though there was a shop full of barbers, no one was after me,and walk-ins are supposedly welcomed. Overall, a very cold approach for a barbershop and wouldn't want to recommend or see any one go through this. There are plenty of more welcoming and attentive barbershops in the area. read more

I prefer to keep to one person who does my hair, so I was to thrill about trying different people out until I find one that fits me. That's when I met Brandon Madison at Single Barrel. After being recommended to him, I made an appointment and gave it a shot. Right after my haircut, I knew that Brandon was gonna be my guy from now on. Single Barrel is conveniently located within the Soho shopping district. The shop is open and spacious. They also offer beard trims, shaping, ect. as well. The price point and appropriate for the service, and the service, let me just say is fantastic. I've been with Brandon for a couple of months now and he always does an amazing job. I've also recommend a couple of clients to him as well and they've all been more than satisfied. Single barrel is exactly what I want in a barber shop. I went to see Brandon for about two months before moving to Atlanta. Just got my first haircut in Atlanta, and damn, I miss Single Barrel. Paid nearly twice as much for a lower quality cut at a cheesy "Americana" type of shop in ATL. Single Barrel is the real deal. They're down to earth, regular guys that make you feel welcomed and give great cuts. Highly recommend them to any one looking for quality hair cut or beard trim. read more

The atmosphere of this place is pretty good and everyone that works there is nice. It's also a clean place. They even have an area for kids to play. But, the guy I got a haircut from did not do a good job at all. The hair on the top of my head was around 6 inches long with a fade on the side. I had gotten a haircut from this establishment a few months prior and it wasn't a great haircut but it wasn't terrible. It was time for a haircut again so I asked for a fade a light trim on top and for the hair on the back of the top of my head to get cut shorter. I ended up with the back of my head getting buzzed and a lazy messy fade. The haircut I received is the worst I have ever witnessed. I actually had to go home and shave my head because the back of my head to almost the top was buzzed to a 2 and the rest was 6 inches long and there was still hair around my ears below the fade line that was missed that was about an inch long. The only reason this is a two star review is because the place was clean. I really wanted to like this place but overpriced haircuts for cool chairs is not worth it. read more
