Some really great topics with all the trimmings of jingles, bumpers and no in-stream ads, that I detected. It is apparently host supported and I see some complaints in that area, but the station does have costs to cover. A great challenge taken on by its owner, Sam. To compete against the huge giants that control LA Radioi. Good job, keep it up!

I was loyal to his station, and brought great guests, including Grammy award winning artists, and Academy Award winning directors. The only thing that Sam cares about, is the $99 / WEEK he charges (even if you run a repeat, it still costs $99) If you pay with a $100 bill, good luck getting your $1 in change owed to you. If you show up with only $95, he'll hassle and threaten you, until you show up with the other $4. My show broadcasted live on Tuesday's, and Christmas 2018 & NY Day 2019, both landed on Tuesday's. Any radio station that I know, does not broadcast live on major holidays, they broadcast Pre recorded content or replays. Well, I didn't show up on those two holidays, believing that I didn't need to, and I didn't receive a call or text on those days, asking if I was showing up.... so I believed that all was okay. When I arrived on January 8, 2019 to do my broadcast, Sam walked into the studio, and demanded that he be paid for three weeks of broadcasting. We decided to table the discussion until we could set up a time and meeting with my show sponsor. A few days later, I went online to download my previous week's broadcast, and was shocked to discover that the website was down, as I was looking at a blank white page! I posted an update for my listeners on facebook, informing them that the site was down, and that I would have more information for them in the morning. The following morning, on January 15, I received text messages from Sam, stating that he would sue me for slander and that I was a liability to the station. I told him that his site was down and that he wasn't providing the service that we pay him for! I told him to stop harassing me, and that I'd see him later that night when I show up for my weekly broadcast. I also told him that I was going to bring a hard drive with me to download my entire archive. He told me that he would deny access of my archive to my listeners, unless I pay him for the 2 missed holidays! He also set up a meeting for us, that evening. Well, my sponsor and I showed up for the meeting, and Sam did not! My broadcast that night (which ended up being my final) was with Director Cameron Crowe, and Rock photographer, Neal Preston! It was an amazing show! Afterwards, we saw Sam in the parking garage. He looked at us, ran to his car, and backed out of the garage, nearly hitting us in the process!!!! Moral of this story is, that Sam (who is originally from Israel), will harass and treat women like shit, insult, demean, and lie! If you are black, he'll treat you even worse! To wrap it up.... Hosting on LA TALK RADIO is a good learning experience until you are able to move on to a much better station, where your rights of Free Speech are supported by the owner! Screw you, Sam!

I agree with Yelper Chris R., because I primarily listen to Ozzy's Boneyard and Hair Nation on Sirius. Sirius XM is light on Christian selections as I could only find one channel dedicated to Christian Family topics and one channel dedicated to Praise music, which I am not really a fan of. Lately I've enjoyed Turbo, Classic Vinyl, and Classic Rock, too in addition to Ozzy's Boneyard and Hair Nation! It's nice to be able to listen to the news any time of day, and to enjoy commercial free channels and programming! Do watch your Sirius charges because they will inevitably escalate! Let your service cancel, then call them and you'll get a "pennies on the dollar" rate. That's what my Sorority sister always does and what we did when we wanted to add Sirius to my step-son's vehicle, I think we pay $5.00 per month for him. This situation is the reason I can't give Sirius XM five stars.

Whatever you do, DO NOT take their automatic renewal option or they'll covert your promo tier into their highest price package -- $4 per month turning into $20. Simply, a horrible company. There is the obligatory Triple Play Thursdays but I love their My Turn feature on Sundays. Their music is good with less of the softer stuff and more hard and eclectic stuff. Hey, I'm diverse! I heard Ac/DC and Jesus Jones (right here right now) the other day and it made my day! The guy who says 'the Sound' is mellow. Their commercials don't have that schlocky feel to them that KLOS has (sorry). They seem honest and mature. When a song I don't like from another station comes on, I always go to The Sound and I find their commercials (or non music stuff) more interesting and cool sounding than other stations music. Now that is saying something! Their dj's are mellow and knowledgeable about tidbits of music I didn't know and I love that. There is a guy who does commercials who has a sexy ass voice but no clue if he's a dj or not. Great station all around. PS- I forgot one more thing - they play the LONG versions of songs, like then entire intros. I love this.

I've been a listener since the station started nearly a year ago, plus I grew up in the south bay beach area in the 60's and 70's. That's from the time 93KHJ took the AM top 40 crown and was soon replaced by the birth and growth of rock n roll on FM. 40+ years! Progressive rock n roll. KPPC (now KROQ) and KMET (now KTWV) KYMS, KNAC and others who arguably started the radio style and imbued it with a heavy non-establishment message supported by the music and lots of humor. I can say this, because I was there at KNAC and other stations. These "inventors" of what later became homogenized and labeled "AOR" (Album-Oriented Rock) were one of a kind personalities with a huge knowledge of music genres and the know-how to mix it live on air. No format clocks or rotation "rules." Sadly, "spontaneity" has long since been ironed out of the format and history of FM rock radio for that matter. KSWD, 100.3 "The Sound" now tells its listener "it's all about the music." Yeah, if you say so, since you can SAY anything you want. Where is the music's connection to our lives--the context? What is the point of view now? Can air personalities ask if we are safer from terrorism, is our food more safe to eat, can they mention issues and then play a song or set of songs to back up the concept? Does "long hair" still scare management? This station reports to some industry trade publications as a "Triple A" format station. Adult Album Alternative. Roughly speaking its a format with a wide artist spectrum covering the genres of rock, singer-songwriter, emo, Americana/heartland, blues and perhaps a touch of jazz crossover. It's supposed to be a notch "smarter" than the existing rock stations on the dial--KLOS, JACK, K-EARTH, etc. You probably won't hear any so-called "hair bands, spandex wearing bands or heavy metal crap." (My opinionated description!) How does 100.3 perfom? They debuted in April of last year, 2008. Prior to that the frequency had been home to an unsuccessful urban blend. It formerly was "Pirate Radio" and once was known as "K-100," staffed by former KHJ jocks. The ratings so far place it under a 1.0 share of the market 12+ 6a-Mid, M-F. KSWD is the fourth station to bring the triple A sound to Los Angeles. In my humble opinion, they play too much classic rock and not enough newer music per hour. Yet their jocks do a pretty damn good job. But there is the lip-service of using on-air announcements by a "big voice guy" intoning the marketing phrase "it's all about the music." Not really true, it seems to me. Where is the heartland stuff? Where are the blues tunes? Where are the deeper tracks from core classic artists? Why won't the station limit the core artist rotation so that the same non-current artist won't be played again in the same hour for the next 3 days or so? Not enough core artists in the library to do this? When you read the listener feedback on the station's own message board, you're apt to hear about the "repetition." Either a few clunker new tracks are played too much ("Mercy" by Duffy) or core artists come up too often with their same old hits. No depth. The sound that The Sound lacks is a cohesive music direction that leads the way to the best of the new. The result: they sound like they play it safe. Too safe. Not much from the latest Jackson Browne album ("Drums Of War?"). But lots of Coldplay and two from the new Springsteen. Where is the new Fleet Foxes, Blues Traveler or the newest Pretenders? Perhaps my biggest beef is the inventory policy: bad circulation of non-currents around the clock. Does anyone want to hear the same artist the next day in the same hour? This control can be done if they think it's important to do. But, they don't as I hear it. On an hourly percentage basis, they could play 40% new music (5 cuts) and 60% "classics" or deep tracks, but they don't. Is it important for them to skew a bit more "new" or reflect more of the genres that make up the AAA format? How healthy can it be to share too much of the same songs/artists with LA's other rock stations? The Sound basically is good--but could be much better with a relatively small effort to accomplish: better rotations, more variety, more currents. Could be very important elements creating a "competitive difference" between 100.3FM and any other LA competitor. Just my $.02. Gotta add, 40 years after the heady days of first rockin' the FM dial, it's much, much, tougher to start a "new" rocker in LA than it ever was. So much water under the bridge. Over the decades, we listeners have heard all the marketing slogans, positioning statements, liners, sweepers, etc., promising something the station will do and--then, not living up to the hype. Is 100.3, really "all about the music?" What about the music? It's an empty slogan. They need a meaningful sound to be successful. --Greg "Cavanaugh

Again, it's over a month: nothing. Why? Not sure, but I would hope to think it's not a scam. I've listened to KPFK for years and I've never had that impression but this incident makes me wonder. I've asked my bank if I can reverse these charges. So, we'll see. Again, I'm hoping that it's not a scam but as each day passes, I'm wondering... Maybe not enough people participated as to make the speaker/coach's time cost-effective but obviously, we should be notified and made "whole" by an apology, a book, audios or something. I might have even volunteered to donate the money as a gift had anyone made any effort to communicate and apologize. Or maybe, it's another lesson of when it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
