The menu contained some refreshingly light and healthy alternatives to the wonderful Yucatecan cuisine which abounds here: we each had a fantastic chicken dish with hummus and a delicious salad accompanied by some exceptional baba ganouj (which I normally dislike). The ambiance was bright and airy, in the street level of a famous building, the casa Catherwood. The chef owner was helpful and charming and we felt like we had stepped into a pleasant oasis. Everything was delicious. The french toast was very smooth, easy to cut and tear apart. The topping was really good and complimented the french toast. It was sweet but not overly sweet. The cappuccino was also good but I added sugar as I like my coffee to be sweet. I also had an espresso that was strong so if you like your caffeine I'd definitely recommend it. I'll definitely go back once I'm in Merida again.

While there the service was very good. They weren't full. They had a cute little stand onto which I could put my purse. They also had an interesting looking bar. Overall the food was decent, but drastically overpriced compared to the numerous other options in Merida. But the worst thing about Piñuela is the service. Our waiter was never to be found, and took forever to get us basic things like water and napkins.  In fact, our dishes were sitting on the pass for so long that another waiter ended up bringing us our food. All 5 dishes all at once of course. Finally, as other reviews have mentioned they tried to sneak in a 15% tip to the bill total. I asked about it and the waiter suggested it was "optional". He then waited at our table until I paid, which was tremendously awkward. It's obvious he was trying to pressure/guilt us into paying the full tip. The management at the restaurant clearly cares nothing about the experience of its customers. Please from my mistake and don't bother with Piñuela.

Her eggs Benedict weren't runny. She would have said nothing, but the server saw it and insisted on fixing it. It took two minutes. Throw all your money at these awesome people. They kick so much breakfast ass. We WILL be back.
