It's been there forever, the 20's if I'm not mistaken, and has had a couple of refurbs since. I've spent a lot of time in this theatre, as the youth theatre I was part of used this theatre for their shows, and I have so many fond memories of the place having spent about 5 weeks a year in total in the theatre! Now that I'm finished doing youth theatre I do love going to see their shows, and actually went to see Cats here on Saturday night, their most recent production, and it was fantastic. The Town Hall's theatre is amazing, but their library is outstanding as well and has everything you could ever need. The staff are great and willing to help with whatever they can, and I used the reference library a lot when I was doing my family tree, so I have first hand experience with how excellent the librarian's help was in here. Glasgow CAMRA recently had their beer festival there and it was the perfect space for it. Think it is mainly used as an artist space which is good but then most people will not see the building, which is a shame. Would be good to see some cafés or bars opening up so more people can use and see the building.

Total 5 stars! The Rutherglen Town hall has undergone…read morerenovation, to an excellent standard! It hosts many rooms, that would suit many an event! I had my wedding meal and reception here. We had our meal that would sit up to 50 in the fab bar area which is modern in style and has glass roof and sides, NOT what you would expect in a Town Hall, this area lights up the glass with lovely lighting, it really illuminates at night time! After the day reception and lovely meal we moved into the Grand Hall, this is a more traditional area, suited our needs, this area holds 150 guests, so with the bar area you can have around 200 guests for evening! If day guests exceed 50 the grand hall is used for meals! We where advised the hall is very dark at night, we kept this in mind when ordering our centrepiece's and had a feather display that lit up on each table! This was really lovely in the room, also we choose a great dj who had the most amazing light set up! Well worth the cost, he brought a double chocolate fountain that was set up in the bar area and I had worked hard and got sweets, crystal bowls, scoops , personalised bags etc for a candy buffet to be arranged on a table as well! Their was lots of space, and a lovely seated area at the bar, which we just put candles on the tables their! The only 2 downfalls for me on the Town Hall us you have to have their catering for the evening buffet! This to me was a very expensive cost! It was lovely, but as I said for us it was expensive! We chose carefully and also the fountain and candy buffet and cake all helped it along! Also the bar area has a staircase that does not have a safety gate, just a rope going across! This really was not good enough as we had 2 toddlers at our event! And 3 of my guests had to stand guard to make sure the children didn't go near the stairs, and I felt this dampened thir experience, as their welcome drink became a stand and guard session! I asked the venue if I could buy a gate previously and was told no, health and saftey would not allow it! This still baffles me! My brother in law still talks of his fear one of the kids where going to fall down these stairs! So have a gaurs in place or ask them to change their policy! Not like your not paying enough lol! Later the toddlers where in prams so did not matter as much! The staff where on the ball! Took care of everything, from cut fingers to organising taxi fairs! We paid £10 extra to hire the hall for the 1Am finish as thought this was very reasonable and the normal 12am finish would probably not accommodate our guests as well as the 12am finish! Hehe! This venue does need to be recognised more for the great place that it is! This venue also hosts many different events, comedy, theatre shows, wedding fairs! Go along and have a wee look!

This building is a beautiful converted church and has a cozy, intimate atmosphere inside. At the Arts Centre you can see all sorts of music, drama and comedy. I fell in love with the place after going to see a musician friend play a set in the café/bar area. It was just him, a stool, a mic and an acoustic guitar. This area is tiny with stone walls and wooden floors and can only fit about 30 people but it created the perfect atmosphere for an acoustic gig. The Arts Centre also runs regular classes and workshops in drama and music and can also be hired as a venue for private functions.

It's also a great place to sit outside of on a sunny day. As anything else I find it is overpopulated by the pretentious. It seems to draw a lot of pseudo-West End (Glasgow) types who do nothing but talk nonsense. Real nonsense, Not just your average boozer banter but genuine made-up rubbish.

The Armadillo and Ovo are architectural standouts on the Scottish Event Campus, but the main conference was held in the cavernous "train station like" building adjacent to them. This building was large enough to hold two giant exhibition halls on the ground level and many small meeting rooms on level 1. It was also conveniently connected by a covered tunnel to the local train station across the motorway, so local visitors and commuters could stay dry while walking over. Food options were plentiful (venison burgers, pork hot dogs, chicken gyros, etc.) and there were many establishments serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Looking forward to visiting again.

The SECC (strictly speaking, the SE&CC if you want to be pedantic as I like to throw out there from…read moretime to time) is a Glasgow institution. Once upon a time known as The Big Red Shed because it was... well, big and red, it's now a very bland shade of grey these days. Quite fitting, as there are newer, shinier, bigger and better venues not a stone's throw from it's well used doors. That's not to say it's a bad thing. The SECC still sees plenty of action in it's varied halls. You can find comic conventions, stand up comedy, gigs and even the odd bout of wrestling and boxing under the SECC roof at various times. There's plenty of options inside for drink and food, and yeah, you'll find it's a slightly over priced as you'd expect for big corporate venue, but not too much like some places *coughAcademycough* The staff are generally helpful and know what they're doing by now. I was there on Sunday and they managed to funnel 4000 people into Hall 3 in less than half an hour with little problems. The problem with the SECC isn't one of it's own doing... it's been replaced or superseded by it's near neighbours The Hydro and The Armadillo. It's not going anywhere soon, but you get the feeling it maybe needs a bit of an upgrade to stay relevant over the next few years, especially sitting in the Hydro's shadow.

This is a huge 18th century Mill Village that focused on education and the welfare of mill workers…read moreboth young and old, I loved the Annie McLeod ride which was fun but also very touching hearing the ghosts of mill workers and of 12 year old Annie McLeod talk about her life as a mill worker in 1820 in New Lanark and of the mill manager Robert Owen who also created the first Infant School in the world. I enjoyed visiting the historic classroom and writing on slates with chalk. You will also see an exhibition of cotton production and working conditions in the cotton industry and see the 19th century textiles machinery in action, spinning wool into yarn which is noisy. We didn't have time to visit Robert Owens home but we wandered the beautiful roof terrace with panoramic views of the falls of Clyde, so all in all a very pleasant day out and well worth a visit!

We visited yesterday on what was a brilliant sunny day and we were totally able to appreciate how pretty new lanark is and I can see why this is becoming a popular wedding venue. I didnt actually realise that the village is still very much a working mill and you can see that for yourself as you walk around. When you enter the car park there is a sign telling you its a 7 min walk to the visitor centre and its all downhill. There are some disabled spaces outside the visitor centre so worth keeping that in mind if you have mobility issues. The Annie Mcleod ride was just as i rememberd and the visitor centre is really well laid out. A lift takes you up to the roof garden where the views are simply stunning! We stopped off for lunch in the cafe and i was pleased to see some gluten free options available and the prices were really reasonable. The gift shop is attached to the cafe with some lovely items and this is where you can buy your wool. New Lanark is a great day out for all the family and dogs are welcome in the main grounds too.

It is closely tied with Motherwells apparent interest in geneology, with a great geneology section in the nearby Library. Motherwell and Wishaw has a rich history rooted in steelworks with the knock on effect of unemployment when the Ravenscraig steelworks in Motherwell closed still very apparent. In conjunction with this, a longstanding hatred towards Thatcher is also still vibrant. I once saw a man sporting an 'I STILL HATE MAGGIE THATCHER' t-shirt. I wonder where he bought it. There are some decent family research facilities in here and let's not forget, the viewing tower, where you can watch people scratching themselves at the bus stop. It's like a cheap version of the Bat Signal, and quite cool on a dark night.. (Worst Yelp joke of 2010 nominee?). A decent afternoon can be had in here, if what the place has to offer is of interest to you and The Bentley Hotel next door is a good shout for a bite to eat before or after.

The actual exhibitions need a lick of paint and a wee dust though, as they have not changed since i was a kid. The wee 'cinema' inside has a dummy lady that's supposed to give you a ticket, and she never has. Ever.
