It is my considered opinion that it is easier and cheaper to buy a spit roasted chicken from one of these places than to do it yourself at home - much less cleaning up too. There are roast chicken places everywhere in Coburg - I don't know there are so many places roasting chickens in Coburg. I'd been here before; the adverts for Ionica Chicken attracted me to this place. It is also in the middle of the car park in Coburg's shopping district. The shop was clean and busy, with rows of chickens turning on their spits over the charcoal. There wasn't much room to sit down but most of the people were just sitting down waiting for their order to be completed, only one person was actually eating here. There was a good selection of salad and a generous portion of chips. Mission completed I went home to have lunch with the in-laws. Not much of the fine charcoal roast chicken survived the in-laws.

Ambiance: A mid-sized Indian restaurant with beautiful decor (I couldn't help but admire the large picture of a woman dancing in traditional Indian clothing behind the counter) and busy with people even past 10 pm. Customer Service: Not very good. The lady insisted that we get something for takeaway instead because there were no more seats... when there were several open tables. I suppose they just didn't want to deal with any more customers, but still , a "We're closing soon" would've been much more honest and preferred than "no more seats" when there blatantly were. Food: Delicious! My friends and I ordered mounds of moderately priced food for takeaway - rice, butter chicken, a bit of lamb curries, etc. etc. I actually really enjoyed the food; everything was flavourful and they definitely didn't skimp on the spices. However, what I didn't enjoy was my food poisoning afterwards. My friend (who has an iron gut) had it as well. I'm not giving them a 1 star because the food was legitimately good and they probably just had a bad day. I'm willing to try it out again, but hopefully they could check the quality of their ingredients more thoroughly and consistently from now on.

Not that you really need a knife when it comes to curry but they look like they are the original piece of metal before it has been cut into the proper knife as we know it. Just as there knife are made in typical Indian style so is the food. Absolutely delicious, and so cheap. The menu might take you a little while to get through before you find that meal for you're after but I can assure you that you won't go wrong no matter what you order. If you have not tried one before, might I suggest getting a dosa before your meal. I don't want to ruin the wow factor and tell you what it is though so I will just say, enjoy your meal.

We started with the antipasto plus some olives. Both were excellent. I had the porchetta for main which touched on absolutely outstanding. I seriously loved it. It was superbly cooked and presented. The other mains were much enjoyed too. If food is the measure, Basta should be doing very well indeed.

I started lunch with a flat white and I thought the design was quite beautiful. The barista cringed slightly as he spotted me posting a picture of his coffee art - he thought he could've made a better one. A perfectionist barista? I'm liking this place already! Nothing speaks better than a person who takes his/her work seriously...even better if it's to the point of crazy perfectionism. I continued my lunch with a lovely Argos' bacon and egg toasties. If I was hungrier, the toasties would've tasted much better - I was quite full from breakfast. Don't get me wrong though, it was delicious! Delicious enough for me to devour it completely. Another great thing about this place is that it has free wifi. I love finding cafes that I could pop by and do a bit of work in. The interior designing is lovely and it's decorated with Ted McDonnell's works. If you're not familiar with him, Ted has won a number of awards since returning to journalism & photojournalism. I don't know how what was originally designed to be a simple snack made to cover your beverage from flies has become an excuse to barbeque a couple of prawns, chuck a few chilli flakes on and charge $20 for it or some such. But that is often what I feel tapas have become in this great city. Anada is no foil for this fundamental cultural difference between us and our Spanish cousins. But then again the traditional tapas do cost between $2.00-$6.50 with the larger servings of 'raciones' costing $14-32 each. This does not mean that this is not a very classy establishment and you won't go away spending a good chunk of your paycheck to dine here. But it does mean you won't go away feeling ripped off in both price and quality. The wine list is very substantive and the staff in the place very knowledgeable and attentive. I say take your time ordering small morsels of food and drink a load of their delicious wine. That way you will get to sample a great many yummy titbits and come away having had a fun evening - who knows you may even be a little drunk.
