With 2 complementary tour times offered on Saturdays, visiting these beautiful grounds was worth the road trip from Indianapolis. One of the sisters took a small group of us on about an hour tour, highlighting both historical and personal stories related to the sisterhood and it's beginnings. I seriously can't believe something like this is located, not only in Indiana, but in such an industry parts of southern Indiana. Religious or not, I highly recommend carving out some time to stop here and admire their beautiful architecture and traditions. The cherry on top is that the sisters also established a brewery on site!! Are you freaking kidding me?! breathtaking views of southern Indiana, amazing architecture, and then I get to have some pints?? Yes, please! Both the gift shop and brewery except cash and credit cards. I really love how the gift shop sold handcrafted items made by the sisters to raise money. I definitely plan to visit again. Three letters WOW!! We have driven down I-64 many times and saw this beautiful church up on the hill and have never visited. On a weekend adventure with our cousins we decided to check it out. We met a wonderful and knowledgeable sister who told us the history of the monastery. It was so beautiful and there is so much history here. The architecture is amazing. If your like me and have never stopped to check this beautiful place out, you owe it to yourself to visit. It's just absolutely gorgeous. We found this place my mistake while visiting Southern Indiana. The Monastery is stunning and you feel a sense of peace while on the grounds. They have a nice Gift Shop with on site with plenty of goodies for you to take home. There's also a brewery on site. The Sisters were welcoming and offered us a tour of the premises. read more

My sister calls this place her childhood home. It's literally the only place either of us lived as children you can go back to or that still stands. They offered a first-rate education back in the day and the Sisters of Saint Benedict continue to enrich the community around them with their offerings. The facility itself is a beautiful example of architecture, local craftsmanship and artistry. It is a place full of local lore and history, but a great place to learn about America and American Catholicism. They Community features a retreat center, a brewery, facilities for public use, a beautiful church, opportunities for prayer and reflection, and while the school is closed you'll you have a hard time NOT learning something when you visit. Their Christmas Eve Mass is something you need to have in your life as well. read more

Ferdinand, Indiana is located right off of I-64 at exit 63. If you are driving near here you MUST take this exit to visit this Monastery (convent). Their website is thedome.org and when you see it you will think you have somehow taken a wrong turn and ended up in olde world Europe! It is beautiful - the grounds are gorgeous and always well manicured. The Grotto pathway is lined with flowers. There is a meditative labyrinth to walk, a gazebo and benches to sit on, a really cool gift shop, and free tours. The sisters welcome visitors to walk the grounds. When you go make sure you walk up one of the concrete winding staircases - when you reach the top you will have an amazing view of the town and surrounding area. read more
