When I signed up for SiteGround I got a phone call from an odd number so I didn't answer. It turns out it was SiteGround welcoming me as a new user to see if I needed help - since I didn't answer I got an email instead. I haven't called them by phone as it would be expensive from Sweden so I can only comment on their chat service. All their staffers have five stars, which sounds suspicious but I've contacted them probably 10-15 times and never had an issue I - and this was when I was on the basic package; the more expensive ones are supposedly better, but I'm not sure how. I've had it for weeks now and the response is as swift as ever. Even their basic package gives you a lot of things you not only want but need, like one-click install/upgrade of plugins/WordPress, cPanel, basic SSL and so on. The first thing I did was to explore their site, trying stuff out to be prepared when I make the switch from Blogger. I installed a theme and then used their "site-builder tool" and it messed the database up. I let them log in on my account and they reset it for me. It was simple errors from ignorance that they took care of. They had to call in someone from advance tech support so it took an hour or so, but they had to reset everything. You do need to hand over the login credentials though and although I see no reason to distrust them specifically, I always change password afterwards. Their pricing works like this: 50 % off for new customers, maximum two years but you have to pay it all at once. I chose one year, and then I changed my mind due to the unbelievably awesome customer service, 24/7. They have a 30 day money back guarantee and I wondered if I could get another year half price off - I got another two years. A couple of days later I'm thinking of buying the Premium Backup service, which is 4€+VAT. At the time they had an offer for 30 days Basic Backup-service for free if you upgrade to GrowBig (their second-tier package). I hesitated and didn't go for it immediately - the difference between Premium and Basic Backup is that they'll do the restoration for you with Premium. The next day the offer had expired but I got it anyway. Three years half off, three years 30-day backup for free and the second tier package. I did play a bit naïve though interacting with them about the expired backup offer. I can't guarantee you'll like them as much as I but I think you'll realize why they're a good host. There's one thing that can be worrying, namely the limit of users per month. As they say, it's not a restriction but more of a guideline. However, you ARE limited to a set number of CPU-cycles per month and if this number is exceeded, the website is shut down until the next calendar month. If you buy the right plan, the only way I could see this being a problem is if a) Someone is DDoS:ing you, or b) a larger blogger/YouTuber or whatever linked to your site and a sudden rush of users ambush you. So the person that replys reviews is a very smooth talker, have you noticed? Well, here is the challenge to make this look smooth as customer service and transparency certainly were not the case and I am now left with a $420 credit card payment for an 'upgrade' that they won't return, nor allow as downgrade credit. Last week on the most important day of the year our website came into trouble. Lots of legit visitors but nowhere close to the 100.000 the 'Go Geek' plan makes you think you could have. Actually they were in total about 1600 over the whole day. Apparently you need to be an expert to use those plans as its not only the users but also the CPU usage that matters. As it turned out later our website was visited thousands of times by a single IP range which was indicated by a Siteground agent (later programers said it was a probable DDOS attack) and I was recommended to 'Upgrade' to cloud based hosting at $120 a month (instead of my $32 Go Geek plan). Desperate as we were in the middle of a product launch, I asked the agent if a downgrade was possible (which was confirmed) before I made the payment. Two hours later the site was upgraded and we thought that would be it. 300 simultaneous visitors should not be a problem for such an expensive hosting you would think. WRONG. Between hosting plans and during the upgrades we did not touch a thing. We were guaranteed a 1:1 transfer where the agent literally said: 'Don't worry, every little piece of code will be transferred' probably counting himself rich with his comission he just made. Nothing less true. The website started giving 505 and 503 errors that apparently are overloads and did not work, even when the buyers/visitors got tired of the page and it dropped to a normal volume. Asking what was happening basically the news was that I had to see my website and hire a programer cause the errors were not related to them but the could recommend me another upgrade. Now, as I still had years left on my Go Geek account, the system was friendly enough to use that money and extend my $120 hosting till the end of the year. Also when I followed the steps recommend, the upgrades I was forced to buy till the end of the contract so I ended up spending another $300 being guaranteed by the agent I could just downgrade after the event. The website did not improve and according to the Siteground stats my new additional resources were hardly used but still the page kept on failing on 'overloads'. We hired a programer that tweaked a few things but till today we are experiencing problems. Just now, following the steps indicated to go downgrade by the first agent that told me I could downgrade, an error comes up stating: ''This account cannot be downgraded because it has recent abuse cases''. Opening a ticket, the agent confirmed. The account cannot be downgraded for another 6 months because of an attack to my account that happened BEFORE 2 agents confirmed I could downgrade. Also a refund was declined so I am left with a malfunctioning website and a $230 a month plan. At this moment I have 4 hours and 20 minutes talking to them to come to a solution but nothing. As their reference, my current ticket number is 3818247. Please go trought the tickets and find out your team is failing big time on customer service and will say anything to get their 5 star rating, even if its not true. read more

I've been a front-end dev (content manager) for the past 7 years and manage internationally a total of 12 large corporate portfolios, plus several small business clients, so tried but a simple and basic WP installation just to test the services! So yes, with no deep programming skills, I must admit that I feel the same unprotected and undistributed way, on an unprofessional Ground as I've felt with another Bulgarian hosting provider several years ago. I've ordered a GEEK account with ALL extras, WildCard SSL, SG scanner, and dedicated IP and I do not really care much about prices as for where I am now I am paying pretty expensive (with a dedicated VPN and "all that stuff "included), but do care about professional services! I am canceling in 3 days only! Tested on a WordPress multisite (MU, 4 themes, plugins, and really basic stuff) My frank impressions: POSITIVE 1. Excellent pre-sales team, largely competent and with the adapted-to-the-user-on-the-other-side skillful talk; 2. Accessible support 24h/24 and some of the guys are concise and reassuring in level of expertise; 3. Nice design of the managing interfaces; 4. Easy step-by-step installation; 5. One-page overlook of the account; 6. Possibility to activate the dedicated IP with a click; 7. Integrated CloudFlare management; 8. When canceling, I was handled by another competent agent, who might have retained my canceling if it was not for the reasons explained below. NEGATIVE 1. ABSOLUTELY limited resources; 2. You cannot surely manipulate all the options you need; 3. Lack of some necessary options in the CPanel (I later saw those come "in addition"); 4. Bad capability to create a staging environment; 5. Incompatibility with some CloudFlare scripts (free and paid); 6. Also, need for "script" arrangements on the server side; 7. Some lame technical support received most suitable for the large public; 8. Hidden charges; 9. I've gotten the oversensible CPU block on a dedicated IP because of the incompatibility issue mentioned above--not only the backend but the frontend were locked. CONCLUSION SiteGround might be good for people with low activity and no middle or high necessity of customized parametrization, and also those who do not understand why they have been charged for and do not know concurrent providers. In short, good for those who have no previous or little experience or are their resellers/affiliates. AS TO ME I'll keep with my BIG and UNEXPENSIVE hosting providers and will have services UP 24h/24, with NO headaches and will also drink my COFFEE happily as my scripts will be compatible, but most importantly, my large corporate clients will continue to never be logged off for the correct price and I will have a merely nice staging interface, running and well-parametrized to push my updates as a normal person... I've tried DOZENS of Wordpress webhosts over the last few years, including many of the "big boys" and big names in not just hosting, but the more specialized area of Wordpress hosting. IMHO, most are crap. A few are really good. A precious few are great. In the almost full year I've been with SiteGround, I've had nothing but EXCELLENT experiences. Their tech support is second to none, fast, and thorough. Their techs, while based out of Eastern Europe, speak better English than some Americans. Every single one, in my experience, is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. What more do you want? Just watch out for cute American idiom. They may not get it! Anyway, given how much time I've lost over the years waiting for tech support to get back to me, the fact that I can reach someone IMMEDIATELY, who will solve my problem nine times out of ten right then and there, is nigh on to priceless! In the few cases where issues have had to be kicked up to senior techs, these were usually handled within an hour. Some folks here are grumbling about billing issues. I've had no issue with them on this. A few months after "trying out" SG, we upgraded for more capacity, and this was simple and straightforward. So, for us anyway, no problems at all. Also, as far as cost goes, I've found SG to be one of the more reasonable WP hosts. There are a number of "dedicated WP hosts" out there that charge a lot more then SG -- and in my experience, don't offer as much. I've paid five times as much for hosting, and had no phone number with which to reach a live person! This is never an issue with SG. They pick up the phone, their live chat support is nearly always available instantly, and even their email ticket system gets back to you within minutes! For WP power users who will understand this: SG has their own "on site" CDN and caching plugin, which is, in my experience, faster and better than all the complex (and in some cases costly) cache plugins I've used in the past. So you get the benefit of a super efficient proprietary plugin with built-in CDN. It's also closely integrated (seamlessly) with Cloudflare's network, using some of it's most advanced features, so you get two great systems working synergistically together. My sites load FAST without having to mess with add'l services. Finally, I REALLY like the SG backend -- as opposed to some other Wordpress hosts I won't mention, but who seem to have created theirs to be as confusing and difficult to use as possible. Everything is well laid out, logical, easy to find and use. I highly recommend SG, particularly for Wordpress use. The SG Cache plugin alone makes it the best deal in town. Add in all the other things SG does, and I think they might well be the best hosting company I've EVER used, in over a decade as a webmaster. No bull. I HIGHLY recommend SiteGround. read more

First off, Siteground used to have stellar service. Amazing service. You could ask them to do things like activate an SSL certificate on a site and they would do it live for you on chat. About a year ago, they cut out all chat chat support for everything that was not a mission critical failure and turned everything into tickets instead. Even when you do have a website down issue, you'll get put into chat but 80% of the time, you'll get routed to customer service or routed to leave a message because "nobody is available". Now when you open a ticket into support, and wait a day for answers, you'll receive "owners manual" type answers to do it yourself. If you were expecting legendary Siteground support, or paid another annual renewal thinking you'll get that legendary service, you won't. Second, Siteground makes it extremely difficult to cancel or change services or execute refunds. When a Cloudflare renewal was coming up, I tried for hours searching how to cancel it, but was impossible so I waited until 2 weeks before the renewal date to address the issue. Surprisingly, they decided to charge me the full amount 1 month before the renewal date, and so I started a support ticket with them to get a refund. Support says they can't refund because they already paid Cloudflare for it. Wait...that's not how ANY SaaS company works. You pay on the day of renewal - not 30 days in advance! Now Cloudflare support says they couldn't refund because support's handled by Siteground. Eventually, I threatened pulling all services and filing chargebacks and they "disappeared" for a few minutes and came back and refunded me on a "one time exception" on a patronizing reason like "you're so loyal". That's poor business practice. Third, Siteground randomly decided to miss backups in the last 7 days for no explainable reason and because of this, I lost 40+ hours of work and thousands of dollars. When I let them know, they opened a "ticket" with no ETA .... eventually they fixed it, but the bottom line was this error cost me unreimbursed time and money. Now I can't even count on Siteground for simple backups. Don't believe the hype - that was the past. There are better hosting companies out there. I am starting to have trust issues with this company and you should too. read more

Ignore the bad reviews, they are mostly just about auto renewal which is customer error. It's not their job to remind you what your paying for, I know every dollar that I am spending, and it is going towards quality service. I haven't had any malware problems in my years of hosting with any company so idk what kind of website these people are running, though I do feel bad and fingers crossed I can avoid that myself, but I wouldn't consider that a "common issue" or anything the normal user should be worried about. I have one site with a ton of images, basically you're limited to about (rough estimate) 20-50 thousand with the Grow Big plan, which I was unaware of upon sign up... However to be honest thats actually a fair number so I can't complain.. I just had what I consider to be no doubt the most excellent chat experience with Kolyo B, customer support rep. In the 8 years since creating my own business (with NO business or 'computer' experience/background), I've learned everything on my own each step of the way, without books, courses, etc; only with occasional help from various customer support reps. During that 8 years, I've had some horrendous experiences with reps of other companies, including other web hosts. Kolyo not only answered the first of my two questions quickly and politely, but took the initiative to take care of the set-up I needed while I was on chat. It was the second question that his support excellence really shined. When I questioned how logistics would work while in the process of developing one of my client's more 'unique' sites, he answered the logistics then jumped in with offering an even better, easier, more efficient process I could use. The process was literally explained step-by-step with numbered bullets, in terms easily understood, included alternatives within this process and appropriate links, then followed up with how the end result for launch would work. We have been with site ground for many years. It starts very well. Their services were good, support was right on spot, fast and response. Sounds great right? If everything turns out this good then I don't need to even write this review. After these many years, their services and supports just go downhill. It seems they don't care about their customers at all now. Our company has both dedicated server and cloud server with them. Each server has roughly 30-40 clients' website or emails on them. And we pay almost 1k per month for their services include their email SSL wildcard certificates renewal. But guess what? They just couldn't proper renew or install this damn thing last two months. End up, last two months most of our clients experienced SSL certificates expiration error message on their devices, I had to call them explain the situation and fix the issue on their devices. And the worst thing was, after I launch a ticket with them. They always try to find excuse such as "we couldn't access your server and could you provide us your server username and password?" then once you provide them, you need to wait hours of hours for them to reply or get it resolved even it's an urgent manner. Chat online with their customer support? Don't even think about it. All they say is "please be patient as their senior technician is working on it as we speaking" then leave you hang there waiting for another couple of hours. And this is just one of the issues. So I would recommend to avoid siteground at all cost. Don't get sucked in by their lies and so called "our happy customer reviews" and their fast response support. What SiteGround did to me today: * Took my site offline because it suddenly exceeded their limit on CPU usage * Told me to ask for technical assistance elsewhere to fix that issue (told me to "use those online freelancer sites") * Refused to temporarily get my site back online; it has to stay offline until I find a way to fix the issue myself * Let me wait for really long periods of time (sometimes up to almost 2 hours) to get a reply in the support ticket, while my site was down Mind you, my site averages less than 2000 visitors a day. And prior to my site being taken offline, my CPU usage was perfectly normal (always less than 30% of their allowed level). Also, this is not the first time this has happened. Three months ago the exact same thing happened. I tried to fix the issues and also upgraded my hosting plan as they suggested, to ensure this never happens again. But I was wrong. And the funny thing is, this time, they also didn't forget to ask me to upgrade to yet another more expensive plan. Now I don't know what to do because I am just a small business owner and not a technical person. So, I've lost a bunch of sales today and maybe will keep losing more, as clients could not register for my courses. I'm kind of sad and very frustrated right now. I was about to renew next month but I guess not. So, unless you have good technical knowledge and skills, avoid SiteGround at all cost if you don't want to lose money. read more

I love Siteground and recommend them wholeheartedly. I can't believe I've read so many bad reviews on here! I'm a website designer and just by coincidence I stumbled up this page when searching for one of the help documents that I found useful (which helps me to speed up my websites load times). Their support is second to none and HIGHLY knowledgeable and FAST. Sometimes they fix problems before the main providers of the software like Joomla! or WordPress, which is great because I'm a web designer but I'm not a server guy. And great for all the other end users on here because I doubt they know a lot about servers or possibly even the issues that are being fixed. Their servers are fast, they offer tonnes of extras like staging and SSL certificates and the latest version of PHP. All round I would really struggle to ever leave this company because I'm so dependant on them. Many of my clients use other hosting and it's ALWAYS inferior. From the lack of services to the support which gives canned answers which take me AGES to get anywhere. Siteground have this uncanny ability to think like me (only better) and hardly ever ask me to undertake routine options. I know they are mainly to follow a process and rule things out but Sitegrounds support aren't reading from a script, they are genuinely knowledgable and helpful, so they don't have to read the script, they think. read more

SiteGround has been our "hosting partner" for years, since 2014. (GoGeek shared hosting package) as we have enough big budget, we don't have a million of visitors and with SG Support we have only great experiences 24/7/365 as they solved all our hostings' issues timely and on the enough high quality level. They switched cPanel with their new in-house built Panel called SiteTools, but I got used to it in a couple of days, and now it's even easier to use than cPanel. Thx to this SiteGround now also has isolated/separated sub-accounts for each website/domain which is very good on the security side (if one website is infected it won't pass infection automatically to other websites in that account), although we use also additional layers of security such as Virusdie and MalCare (never enough of safety). We mainly migrate sites to SG servers by using their free SG Migrator and in 99% of our migration cases it simply works. There are no issues with English communication either. So far, we have understood each other perfectly well. Many of our clients want to have e-mail account as well, without additional payments, so they use SG mail system (my wife's whole Association uses it) and they don't have any complaints with it (especially after all the parameters have been set up, so mails don't go into spam). read more

I have been with Siteground for 12 years. I manage approximately 90 websites for clients, some of whom are still with other providers such as Godaddy, HostGator/Bluehost/Hostmonster, Network Solutions, and a few others. Compared to other providers, their customer service is far and above. I get most of my support needs and tickets resolved in a few minutes. I was surprised by the price increase this year; however, there has not been an increase in 10 years and it is still comparable or less than other hosts. I would surmise that the majority of the users who have posted bad reviews and have described siteground as incompetent, themselves have inadequate skills or understanding of an increasingly complex online world. If you don't keep your CMS installations and plugins updated, if you choose shady, unsupported plugins b/c you are too cheap to pay for plugins that are well developed, and/or secure plugins that actually work, you will end up paying for malware remediation. I have helped several clients with malware remediation for this very reason. Same every time. Bottom line, bad plugins or outdated WP/Joomla/CMS installations. Will continue to use Siteground and encourage as many of my clients as possible to do the same. read more

SiteGround has been my host and hosted sites for my clients for two years now. I'm so glad someone recommended them to me! I left another big "Blue" company after years of bad customer service and dreadful shared hosting experiences: sites going down for 5-20 minutes a more at a time - multiple times a quarter, reluctance to provide technical assistance. When I finally left BlueHost, I was surprised that SiteGround offered so much help - free migration of a site, they will give advice and even assistance with a "fix" for a problem that I've created. The sites are never down and support is always available quickly and friendly. For chat, I think the longest I've waited is 60 seconds. Tickets are answered and updated within minutes and when I had to call service, I didn't have to wait on hold. I have two clients who use GoDaddy and on their behalf, I've waited for customer support on at least 5 occasions for more than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, after the wait, the tech support is not that great. If you are looking for shared hosting and want a company who will stand behind you to deliver a site that is always up and support that is quick and friendly - choose SiteGround. read more

Oh SiteGround is sorry that its action ruined my online business by shutting it down without notice, or sorry rather 20 mins later, and security that allowed a hacker to infiltrate my website and then refusing to help fix the problem that in all due respect was probably caused or at least assisted by SiteGround's poor security. How thoughtful of SiteGround to now comment and be so concerned after all the pain your hosting site caused me and actions virtually put me out of business. So if you would like lack of security, poor assistance and a company that will leave your website hostage, with the possibility of bankrupting your business, then sign up to SiteGround Now! I transferred my sites over to bluehost two years ago and at first was impressed. However, my site started going down frequently and they didn't acknowledge it or take responsibility for it whatsoever, even though Jetpack was telling me the site was down. I got a recommendation to switch to siteground from several other bloggers and online business owners. I looked at the prices, packages, and what they offer, and I was sold. I switched my hosting over and my sites were transferred within a couple hours. EVERYTHING was transferred (and it was FREE for them to transfer it for me) and my site was only down a couple minutes during the transfer. I don't have to set anything up, it's just up and running just like it was before the transfer. Easiest transfer I have ever experienced, and their customer service has such quick response times. So far I am absolutely thrilled to have moved over. I've worked with 5 different hosting providers through the years, and my experience in the first 24 hours has been better than the combined years with other places. I am hardly a techie. In fact, I have a habit of making things more complicated than need be. I needed to transfer our website from another server and after doing some research, found SiteGround. When I first saw the "there are 44 chats ahead of you" I groaned and prepared for a long wait. Nope. Within a minute I was online with a tech who was very helpful. Then, the power company shut off the power due to a problem at the street. UGH! A few hours later, I returned prepared to begin at square one. Nope again, the tech had the transcript from the first chat and we started where we had been cut off. In the midst of the chat it became apparent the plan I chose wasn't the right one for us. The tech suggested another plan -- a CHEAPER plan. After loads of my questions (remember, I'm not a tech) the path was clear and we are in the process of switching painlessly. When you are not an expert, but still need a good site and a reliable host, customer support is EVERYTHING. This was all pre-sale, but from what I've seen, we are in the right place and I expect things to go very well. Compared to our previous host, this is fantastic! read more

I had an account for Siteground for a couple years, and had no issues with them, with the exception of the fact that I'm technologically challenged and their system and set-up is NOT for beginners. My lack of skills led me to cancel my services with them (or so I thought) in January, in favor of something simpler I received a call this morning from my financial institution alerting me to a suspicious charge on my account from Siteground, after I thought I had cancelled my services with them. My credit union told me to reach out to SG again to see if they would reverse the charges, but said they were ready to dispute if needed, so I wasn't feeling hopeful when I logged in and reached out to customer service via the chat function. She stated she was processing the refund and cancelling my account on the spot. I switched to SiteGround from another well-known managed WordPress hosting provider, which was good but simply too expensive. The "Geek" plan was their most expensive, and came with priority support, staging and other bits, yet it was still about 1/4 of what I had been paying. I have no problem with paying yearly. The plan allowed me to host "unlimited" websites (I suspect 10 would be a sensible max number of small sites for performance), and I moved 5 over. I got one done for me as part of purchasing the plan, and moved the other 4 myself. Moving Wordpress sites isn't so easy if you don't know the tricks to it, and I got stuck every time. Each time I reached out to Support, usually by chat, late in the evening or at weekends, and each time they were able to get me unstuck. They were unfailingly polite and focussed on a resolution. They didn't seem to mind that I was trying to do stuff I didn't have the technical competence for. They just fixed it for me (I also asked what the solution was, so I could get a little further next time). I waited until I'd transferred all the sites before reviewing. read more
