I canceled my hosting with siteground without knowing that I would be unable to move my domain for 60 days. Upon learning this I decided that it would be best to go ahead and use sitground, but since I canceled the only way to reactivate my account was to pay the $25 monthly fee instead of the introductory $10 monthly fee. I hoped that since it had only been a few days since the cancelation there would be some way to reverse the registration and get my sit back up and running. But for the price Siteground wants for 1 year, bluehost will give 3 years of hosting and a free site name (which I guess I'll have to change since I can't move my domain). It's aggravating, but hey, what can you do? A company's got to have policies right? read more

Within thirty minutes I sent the required 4 line form to be sent to the legal team (compliance department). Over 5 days later and three emails to them and I haven't received a single reply, not even an auto-reply. Customer service is severely lacking. A little communication goes a long way. read more

I have been a loyal customer with SiteGround for several years and my account was up for renewal once again. I agree with many of the other comments, they are 100% a billing bully. They offer a low introductory price to get you on board and then they EXTORT your wallet when it's time to renew. What a terrible experience trying to use Siteground has been. It's been 3 days, and I couldn't even get successfully on-boarded with them. The first thing was their migration plugin. It looked like it worked great, but didn't move .htaccess, robots.txt or sitemap.xml. So I called support and asked them to merge my old, and their new, .htaccess files. She said she would complete it offline and email me when done. 10 mins later, I got a blank, no-reply email from "sales-followup" and had to call support again to see if that meant it was complete, which it was. Shortly after, I was proceeding to look around and learn their interface, when my account suddenly flipped red, said "Cancelled" and an auto refund generated. I called support, who said, "That's not possible. YOU must have accidentally cancelled it." I said I didn't, she said, "You had to, because our system wouldn't have!". After a 5-10 min phone call of me defending myself, trying to convince her that I didn't cancel myself, she said, "well, we'll look into it". A few hours later, I got an email from a supervisor saying that it was their fault after all, and, "I've re-enabled your account. Just click this link to pay again, and you'll be all set". The account didn't go to uncancelled, but as I did get the auto-refund, I paid again with the link. It then went "green" and active again, and everything looked good. Then I checked my site. It wasn't responding. So, for the 3rd or 4th time that day, I called support. They said they would have to forward it. A little while later, I got an email saying that, "They forgot to enable your account. It's okay now". I emailed the initial supervisor that said she had done it, and never got a reply. A day later, I called support, and asked to speak to a supervisor, because I was annoyed and thinking of cancelling. They told me that that was not possible to do, and one would have to get to back to me via email within 24 hours as the only way. So, I gave the helpful and understanding support tech an earful, told them no one got back to me, and asked, "How can I trust you or what will happen over the next two years? At the VERY least, I'd like a high-level someone to go over my account and ensure everything is working properly and ready for me to point DNS to you before I put my business on your system since I've had issues. And, I'd also like someone in authority to review my experience so far". Four hours later, I got a terse, form email from some different supervisor that simply said, "We received your complaint and we will review it within one business day." (not even respond. Just "review" it within a day) That was over 24 hours ago as I write this, and no reply or contact from anyone beyond that. And, I have a site I have to move before another host expires. So I emailed support about 2 hours ago on the on-going support thread, and said, "At this point, as no one is replying,and I don't have confidence in your service, I don't know what I can do but cancel, hope I get a refund, and start writing bad reviews". I've given them time to respond to that too, but as I write this, it's been a couple of hours, and I've received no reply to that either. So, I just went online to cancel. When I did, I tried the reason, "other" with comments. It wouldn't allow me to proceed. I changed it to "your service didn't work for me", and it went on, but said it was going to be refunding $20 less than I paid. So, I quit and had to call AGAIN and cancel on the phone (where they did promptly refunded the total, no questions asked). And, here I am, writing a bad review. I really liked all their features. And I even gave them a second chance after they accidentally cancelled my account on me, since they copped to it. But it's been 3 days, their response has been terrible or non-existent, and I have ZERO faith that I won't get "accidentally cancelled" in the future and have to wait for a response when I'm live and my livelihood is actually running with them. If I'm down I potentially lose money. And if this is the kind of treatment and response to expect, as a business owner, I can't in good conscience start to use their service to run my site after this experience, and in my opinion, no one else should either. read more

I like their services and their service but I can't recommend until they get rid of SuperCacher. It comes with every cpanel and is enabled with every new site you set up. It's frustrating and it caches server level pages whether you have it turned on or turned off. It sucks for the user. It s there for the benefit of Siteground. Don't fall for the bs. I have been with SiteGround for some time now. I was very impressed and have even been recommending them to multiple clients despite their high cost. However, recently I have been very disappointed in them. I was mis-billed, support has decreased in quality and friendliness (for the most part), and there systems have been causing me more and more issues. Now I have been locked out of support, even though it is something I pay for, because I have reached out to them too many times recently as there is an issue with their SSL and only some of their previous support staff knew how to fix it. I signed up for what I thought was a $47.40 annual hosting plan. It then jumped to a $200+ hosting plan then next year without notice. Apparently, they automatically upgraded my account. This was not due to traffic volume or bandwidth. I had four addon domains and none of these sites had traffic volume or technical needs that could possibly justify this. I have been a webmaster for over 20 years and have dealt with numerous hosting companies with these same websites. I've never seen anything like this. Siteground is a web hosting company that we used for years. The tech support is great, the service is reliable but they are now forcing Business Accounts to upgrade to more expensive plans because of CPU limits. Sitegound by nature is very expensive and their tactic of forcing Businesses to upgrade because of Malware Bots trying to hack the server is something that they should handle internally by blocking the bad traffic. Small businesses should not have to pay to upgrade because of Malware Bot traffic. This is something that should have been blocked by their firewall. Long story short, after 5 years with #Siteground it is time to pull the plug! For less than what we are being charged, we could be on VPN dedicated server. Siteground is missing a great opportunity here and should revise their sales pressure tactics. I first joined Siteground about 2 years ago after looking to upgrade to a new web hosting company. At first, their customer service was friendly, amazing, and responded quickly. Over time, once they had me lured in, I learned the truth about them. First of all, they are "upgrade happy" - meaning, rather than trying to make suggestions and help you with an issue first, they immediately want to recommend you upgrade. I made did twice with them in less than a year! Of course, they prey on those not as familiar with such a thing to "sucker" into their upgrades that they may or may not need. Flash forward to September of 2015 I hired a web developer/programmer to go in and clean up the code of my web site. Well, that's then I discovered just how bad things were from Siteground "helping". I should have known that when you get different answers from different techs it wouldn't be good, but again, I didn't know better and just went with the flow. Since I was pleased with my developers service I went forward with a full site re-design and upgrade which meant also moving to a better and more reliable webhost. My design was a complex one that took months and during the process there were issues with my server on Siteground where the developers would try and work with them to fix the issue. Siteground seriously lacked in response. They will respond within the first 15 minutes, but the next response could be hours or even days later. It's during this time that I discovered Siteground had LIED to me to get me to sign up. I knew the questions to ask when I joined, including about refunds and things of that nature. I was promised the same 30-day refund if I was not happy. Unfortunately, they did NOT mention that my account would not qualify because I joined with the Cloud account - which is not covered in this deal. Also, they never mentioned that they CHARGE YOU $25 if you were to cancel in that 30-day period. I've experienced a LOT of down time from Siteground during my time with them and each time they claimed it wasn't their fault, yet I have SCREEN SHOTS showing when THEIR site showed THEY are having issues with the SERVER. Somehow that would always get twisted into something that was my fault though according to their techs.I've also experienced being lied to further when tickets were supposedly forwarded to a supervisor, but it literally took HOURS to do so. It shows when a ticket is in progress or has been forwarded. Basically, Siteground just delays and never fixes things like they claim. Fast forward to more recently. Once I moved over to my new web hosting company, my web developer requested a backup of my database from Siteground. Siteground seems to think they did us a favor by providing this for free, but it literally took them DAYS to get this completed and probably would have been longer if not for me opening a new ticket to check in on them. Here's the real problem though, they provided INCOMPLETE backups as well as CORRUPTED ones. Siteground denies this, but my web developer PROVED to them where he even saw in the coding that the backup was incomplete. Siteground is STILL denying this and basically called my developer a liar. They are also claiming that THEY cleaned up my database coding multiple times. Unfortunately that is NOT true. Siteground did NOTHING of the sort. My programmer, which I paid to do, had to clean up all the coding and basically said it was a nightmare in so many words because of how bad off it was. So if Siteground did "clean up the coding" they must have had someone in there who knew NOTHING. The fact that Siteground has the nerve to LIE really bothers me. If they provided me corrupted backups, then I'm really concerned about times in the past I had them restore my site - did they honestly only make it worse because they're incompetent to even send a completed backup? Before anybody asks why I did not do a backup on my own, Siteground has the backup button DISABLED. That's right. It's turned OFF so you cannot do your own backup and have to PAY them $50 to do it! This is something they do not tell you up front either. You have to dig around to figure it out. Every little thing requires money. Siteground is over priced and has techs with no skills or knowledge. The point of my rant though is I want to be refunded for all my down time, since I was promised to be online 99.9% of the time and I wasn't. I want to be compensated for all their lies. I want to be compensated for the money that I had to pay extra to my web developer due to Siteground's lack of responding. I mean, my developer did try to talk by phone to them, but they would only allow him to submit a ticket and not deal with him any other way. Same goes with me. Everything had to be done by ticket. We were recommended SiteGround by our former web team, and they might have been good a few years ago (the reviews at the time were great). For the most part things were fine, but several days ago our website came to a grinding halt with massive spikes in CPU usage for no clear reason (in some cases a 150x increase). We're going on Day 3 and despite a lot of back and forth with support ticket updates, we've gotten very little actual assistance other than links to general optimization guides. (This is with the "dedicated support" we're supposed to receive.) It also frequently takes many hours to get a response, so our site has been rendered useless for days during the busiest time of year. Our own web developer feels fairly sure the problem rests on their end, and they are not addressing it. We will be looking to move to a new service soon. read more

When I first got their service I was excited because I heard they were pretty decent. I should have read more reviews. A few things here. First thing, my site was acting really funky about 3 months back and I thought it may be a plugin, so I troubleshooted my wordpress, took out all plugins, the issue persisted. I checked other parts of the site with anything jquery related, etc. to see if I could find anything, but there was nothing. Also, the site would sometimes load and sometimes it would be not showing stuck on loading. I talked with CS and they said all they kept saying is "it works here", but the point was it didn't work for myself or multiple friends. I tried restoring the site to the previous, fast loading site, and it still didn't work. This went on for over 2 months with back and forth with CS and finally the site just started working again. I read later others had downtime during the same time. Secondly, it was the end of the year and they sent me a message early that my service would now be $300+ (had a good deal with them first as usual). But I wanted to try something new and setup WPX hosting. It was over 3 weeks before I needed to renew and same day I transferred the site out the auto-renew feature magically cut in! I called them and asked why it was auto-renewed so early and asked for a refund and they told me how to go about it in a very snarky attitude. I am in Canada and when it processed back to me, I lost $30 on the exchange rate. I messaged them asking to be reimbursed as I didn't know of the auto-renew feature. They gave me a big old letter about how it is buried deep in the TOS somewhere and how it usually helps customers. I think it is really weird it suddenly auto-renewed 3 weeks in advance when I was just trying to transfer my service. I couldn't find AT ALL how to turn it off before it happened either. This stuff should be mentioned on initial signup. I and other customers are not going to go through every word of the TOS. Now I am with WPX hosting and they respond in about 2-5 minutes to everything, will remove viruses if it ever happens, free SSL, lighting fast speed, friendly service and the list goes on. They are a true managed wordpress host unlike siteground. To add, I am paying only $50 more annually for WPX than what siteground wanted for my renewal. Please siteground, save your canned repetitive respond to this, I have already heard it, and to be honest just because your TOS says it doesn't mean you should have it the way you do. Perhaps you should listen to the multiple customers who absolutely hate the way you have the auto-renew setup instead of quoting some legal bull. Honestly, I never got far enough to test their service as they wouldn't activate my account. They have some ridiculous verification system that prevented me from getting activated. I planned to set up a tiny site for a lawyer cousin of mine. I used my credit card and provided all current and valid information. I wasted 30+ minutes in chat with nary a single question verifying my information, yet they wouldn't activate my account. I have no idea what triggered their concern, but it seems there must be a better way to verify information, like, maybe, have the credit card company verify its legitimacy? Also, anything set up using their services is publicly accessible and available -- do they honestly think there's some way of hiding anything? Unbelievable. I am actually trying to cancel my services with them as I type this review (They are charging me for hosting even though my site is down and URL is now listed for sale because of them) but they have stayed true to form and the cancellation form isn't working (Lol isn't that just par for the course here!), so I'm in the process of complaining to some poor customer service rep I opened a support ticket in 2015 to have my entire site (files and domain name) transferred to siteground from a different company. I was told this was completed and I was billed for the transfer. My site had been up for years with no indication of any issues and I checked yesterday and my site is now gone and listed for sale! I was told my URL was bought by some Chinese company and I would have to possibly pay thousands possibly to get it back again. When I contacted SiteGround, they said that I never completed the transfer back in 2015. They said they sent an email saying that I had to complete this transfer and I never did. It would have been nice if I was instructed to do this by their technical support person. I checked and they did send me this email to complete the transfer .....3 DAYS after talking to tech support! They also billed me for the domain transfer which lead me to believe that the domain transfer was complete. Now my site is gone and they won't help me restore it. They say my URL is owned by somebody else, so i'm SOL (Now that's some customer service for you). They said they would offer me a free year of domain as a courtesy but this doesn't make up for losing my URL and doesn't make sense with the website being gone and all.... They also said that they will not refund the 14.95 domain transfer that never happened because 3 years ago and that is too long ago. It's funny that at one point, I was telling people to go with Siteground and switch from other companies but now I will have no choice but to tell people to avoid SiteGround because you may end up without a website (and get charged for it anyway) !!! read more

As far as hosting, their service is just fine. As far as their tech support - it's for sure not the greatest, but it's there, if you can find a way to get to it lol. However, their scammy billing practices are something that simply cannot be ignored. Seeing how so many reviews are often paid for, I feel many of their reviews are FAKE. Why do all the reviews from these websites paint such a different picture than the INDEPENDENT reviews on sites like Yelp?? There is a reason for that. I purchased a year of hosting for $127 with this company, and when it came time to renew, they were going to AUTO BILL ME for $419, and yes, that is for just another 12 month period, and not for anything special or "extra". Thank GOD I saw what they intended to do and stopped it before they did it. I NEVER authorized a charge like that, and if they somehow got my "approval" for such a thing, it was done very sneakily and unethically, and should be considered FRAUD. They also LIED when I first signed up saying they could/would also migrate my 2nd site for FREE and then tried to charge me to do so I had to fight to get what I was told would be included with signing up for service. I now only run a single Wordpress site, and to me, their hosting is decent, but no basic hosting is worth $419 a year - especially when you are literally SCAMMED into it by the FAILING to disclose they intend to TRIPLE the cost to renew! They said all their prices were disclosed, uh, no, I'm sorry, it was NOT. I would NEVER have agreed to pay that kind of money to renew service - ever. So, I would not only NEVER recommend this scam artist company to ANYONE, I'm also now in a position where I have to migrate my site to a new host which is an inconvenience to say the LEAST. I have used different Hosting companies and SiteGround is probably the worst!! Am not sure where and how they get all those "great" ratings (most likely they are 'paid ratings') or if you check the great ratings are usually from affiliate resellers who would only make a buck with GREAT ratings! Despite its statement, Siteground ALWAYS puts limits on your bandwith and CPU usage and keep harrassing you every day with messages about reaching your daily CPU usage! I always have issues with FTP connections and you will always get "Getway time out errors" due to overpacked shared, crammed and clogged servers! I had A2Host before (and had NO issues - though was less price competitive) and wish I had stayed with them because you can NOT succeed working on your online business when you are always worried about the effectiveness of the host! We've been Siteground customers for a few years without issues. However, since two months 600 hundred of our emails have been held from release by Siteground. They refuse to work with our software company to resolve the problem. We asked if they could do a Go-To-Meeting with our tech guy and they said no. They said "the technical support team is only available via ticketing channel. No other options for communication are available". Well, we submitted a ticket 26 days ago with no result and now they say we have to submit another ticket and start again. Our only means of communicating with the owner/management is through Yelp. (You know who we are) If they do not respond to this quickly then we have no choice but to change server. read more

Signed-up early this morning with Siteground after reading all the great reviews -siteground vs blue host. I was having trouble logging into my account a few hours later. I tried resetting the account myself several times to set a new password but it didn't work. I called in and the rep on the other end sent me a link and I tried again and it did not work. When I told him that it didn't work his tone became condescending. He spoke to me as if I was a child, as if I didn't know how to reset the password. I found him rude. His tone indicated I didn't know what I was doing. I may not be an expert but I build computers and networks as a hobby and have logins on dozens of different technical sites. So I definitely was not very happy with how he approached it. I did some trouble shooting myself and found that it was because of a VPN I could not access the account. I turned it off and tadah...I got in and proceed to delete my account. Not a very good experience for the first time calling in to Siteground. I deleted my account less than 12 hours after creating it. Not happy with Sitegound! read more

We moved our Newspaper site to Siteground in 2018 and bought a Cloud solution, somewhat expensive. However money is not the problem in our case, we want a reliable provider, so we trusted Siteground. We have a standard, updated Wordpress site: nothing special. Our number of users per day is below ten thousand overall, and less than 100 contemporary. All was good for a couple of months, then the issue started: site crashed with errors 503, 502, 523. After 4 months of looking into it, Siteground informed we have IOPs problems: our application (?) makes over 5000 IOPs and the server stops. This is basically impossible for our Wordpress, but we trusted Siteground and we increased to 8 CPU, 10Gb RAM, 100Gb SSD. Well, after 43 tickets, the problem is still present, more than one year has passed and we were not able to obtain any proper support from Siteground about it: our site continues to crash and again, it's a very basic standard Wordpress. Also: backup via FTP to a remote site doesn't work and Siteground experts told us to use SSH (but we need FTP), and they sell Cloudflare but know that they have internal issues in Cloudflare communitation that causes errors. In addition, their Siteground SG Optimizer plugin in our cases does not work properly on Mobile, and display, in random occasions, grey placeholders in place of images or old pages. Quite good fod a Newspaper site (...). We asked many times to be contacted by a support supervisor, nothing up to now. We do not suggest Siteground at all; it is good for a simple site and when everything works, but when problems start to arise, you can't get support and you don't have any representative to be your interface, they refuse any direct or phone contact and answer you with standard copy-paste very polite messages. read more

Siteground used to be a great company. I have been with them for over 3 years and their customer support is great. However, twice now, WITHOUT WARNING, they shut down my email accounts. These are my business accounts that I depend on for my livelihood. They claim that they had been hacked / spoofed and they "needed to do it". They never notified me that they did it. I only noticed when my email volume dropped and by that time 24 hours had gone by. I lost a lot of customers who received failed messages / mailbox no longer available replies to the emails they sent me. I have no way of contacting these people and what is worse, Siteground keeps disabling my email accounts. I cannot stop them from doing it and they will keep doing it as long as they please. If my accounts are being "hacked"- which I see no proof of - it is because of Siteground's security. I have no choice but to leave their hosting service. read more

I'm incredibly disappointed with their customer service. I received an email from them letting me know that they would "attempt" to automatically renew my domain registration. Leading me to believe that if I do nothing my registration would expire, which was what I wanted anyways so I didn't do anything. Their email also instructed I manually renew my domain to keep services going without disruption. Very misleading into getting people to assume that not doing anything will allow my domain to just expire. Well, that transaction went through and I was automatically renewed and charged. Calling customer service did nothing, as I was directed to the terms of services which state that the registration is non-refundable. How many people check their terms of services after signing up? Customer service was extremely rude, unsympathetic and very aggressive. They absolutely do not care about customers who want to leave their services and could care less about feedback. I get it, they have the money in their pockets, who cares how pissed off a customer is? I read an another review another customer had a similar experience to mine, but was granted a possibility of being refunded money. It was stated explicitly nothing could be done and there was no one in a senior position to speak with. They're very selective on who they can help, I guess. read more

We had over 10 sites with siteground for over a year. Sites get hacked sometimes, I've been doing this for 23 years. The problem with siteground is their up-sale of their hack alert which alerted "clean," even while we were under attack. They pulled out some lingo that it only alerts when the the top level is hit. I think the top level is hit when the site won't come up. And Our sites were going down with clean alerts coming in the inbox. And also coming in the inbox soon before they threatened to suspend our sites for malware with 24 hour notice. So that's just a useless tool cost a few bucks a month. But, because it was so useless you would think they would offer a refund of some sort for it having no effect whatsoever in helping us be "alerted," by a "hack." Secondly, when we ordered the 299.00 clean up from them. We saw when moving our site one week later that it was still infected. So that is useless also. We had to pay someone to clean it up again for the new host. They then scanned the cleaned site... then immediately deleted the alerts in our Cpanel that showed the site infected again days 10 days later. As well as their customer service they were okay robots from time to time, but in the end offered no refund on the failed security clean up, offered I think $12 refund for the two years of failed hack alerts, for thousands of dollars by their ineffective product contributed to. I hope they get their act together for the sake of other small business. I would strongly suggest going somewhere else. read more

Siteground lure you in with their good customer service. Once they have you it is a slaughter house. The aim of siteground is to get you to sign up for a small package and then force you --blackmail you to upgrade. They do this by making your site violate the 1000 hidden rules they have around inodes and cpu usage. All of a sudden you send a basic newsletter using sendy (that many people use) and you violated their cpu usage. And they suspend your entire site during the peak of your marketing. Then they show you some BS stats to show your site violated their resources so you must upgrade. I upgraded twice. Now they did it again. So the newsletter which I have been sending for 1 year ALL OF A SUDDEN is now violating their shared resources. Why now? Because I must upgrade to cloud service. Siteground is a trap. find hosting elsewhere. I am swear they are buying reviews how come every where you look it is positive? When reality for us real users is so different. read more

AVOID THIS COMPANY. Their products and custom features they provide may look amazing, it may seem like you are going to be using a great host YOU ARE NOT. during a sales call we were mis-sold our VPS contract and provided false information. Upon the realisation I called them to try resolve this. Only to be told they cant help, a manager would need to look into this. However they seem to not have any managers as you cannot speak to them on the phone and the only address they will provide is a Sales@ address which they do not reply to you on anyway. Upon speaking to a girl supposedly called Elvisa she was rude and completely unhelpful, she refused to go directly to a manager, provide me a managers email address, phone number or anything in order to contact management or even their legal team about the problem. We have been with them less than 24 hours and this is THE WORST SERVER I HAVE EVER USED. Their customer support is terrible and do not care and they are the most unhelpful people ever. They claim they have no contact with the companies management or directors and refused to escalate my call to someone more senior as I try to resolve the fact that we were mis-sold our VPS contract from them Further to this when I decided I was unhappy with Elvisa and her total lack of care or support she refused to provide me anything more than this name Elvisa (Which I doubt is her real name) as they do not provide a surname, ID number, reference number nothing at all aside from 1 name. For about 10 minutes she tried to tell me that she only had a 1st name and no other names. The company has no complaints procedure does not escalate complaints either and thinks its ok to tell you to wait 24 hours after they have committed fraud and have provided false information which lead to the purchase of services.
