When we visit any city while traveling, we always like to support any charity or thrift shop we can find. We were excited to see the Sitka White Elephant Shop, so we stopped in. The store was very nice and full of great items. We found a lovely olive wood carving of Jesus holding a lamb, a lovely Jasper necklace, a travel shot glass from Alaska and a ski patch. The best thrift store around. All the workers are volunteers and they give back so much to the community. I always make a killing when I come to Sitka and shop at the White E. This trip I got a Speedo bathing suit and it is brand new, Nike sandals, some water shoes, and baby Crocs for my granddaughter all for less than $10. I got a CoolTouch Computer Lap Desk With Fan for $2 and it works like a charm. My mom bought a designer rain coat for $6. This is the place to shop if you are ever in Sitka. read more

Awesome little thrift shop which is operated by volunteers. The selection is also changing and it has a wide assortment of clothing, books and housewares. There is even an Alaskan section with books, touristy items and Alaskan themed clothing. Although one reviewer complained about the business hours, it is important to note that this shop is almost entirely staffed by volunteers. The proceeds are distributed to local non-profits annually and the White E donations help provide meals for elders, preschool scholarships, and provide much needed funds to small non-profits. read more

Rarely open. This business has the most arbitrary hours of any business I've ever seen. When they do open, they are slammed and packed to the gills. Forget trying to get in the door during sales. Big selection, though. read more
