As a mom of three under six who travels regularly with our kids, I'm used to working with agencies in different places. This was the first time that the owner of the agency refused to provide a last name/resume/address/credentials/phone number/ANY VERIFIABLE INFORMATION for the sitter up front. She seemed to take it personally that I didn't take her word for it that her referral was flawless. But again, as a mom of three kids who travels regularly - I've learned the value in validating and doing a basic google search of the person I'm hoping to leave three small children with. On Monday, the owner wrote to me, "XX will reach out with a blocked call to introduce herself, if you miss her call, no worries, she will be there for you all on Saturday." I politely asked for a last name and a phone number, such that I could speak to her in advance of her standing in front of me and my kids before I leave to go to a wedding for six hours. The owner replied telling me no, I could not have any of that information because, "XX is very well established in our organization." Then she tried to push me by saying that there's only one other agency in the area and its not insured in NJ and is so large. This was consistent with the level of professionalism we experienced. By Wednesday morning, I still hadn't heard from the sitter or been given anything that I could independently verify. I emailed the owner to tell her this wouldn't work out. Magically, the sitter calls me within minutes of me hitting send and is now willing to make an exception and share her phone number. By this point (four days before the event), we have made other arrangements with someone willing to let me Google them in advance. This agency's sitters may all be amazing. But I've never once been told by an agency (or a competent babysitter, for that matter) that I can't see a copy of a sitter's CPR certificate, identification, or dated background check. In this day and age, we just can't take the chance and go with a "trust me, I run an agency" approach. Particularly when other reviews of this agency here and elsewhere indicate there have been issues of sitters not showing up or not being professional. The owner texted me to tell me that she would still charge us the sitter referral fee because she DID make a placement and it was my choice to cancel her. She and I have a different opinion on what a placement is - mine isn't "here is the first name of a person." She can keep the $20 though - seems like they need it more than we do. UPDATE: 10/25/2019 1) To re-iterate, we did NOT hire a babysitter and this is a review of the agency's policies, not the babysitter herself, since we found a different babysitter before this agency's sitter called us. 2) To be clear, the owner did not literally say "trust me, I run an agency." Instead, she argued that I did not need to see any supporting documents about the sitter (including her last name, a dated background check, or her phone number) because, as she literally texted to me, "I vet the sitter so clients don't have to." In three states and in five sitter agencies, I have always been sent more information and/or supporting documents or we have chosen not to use that baby-sitting agency. 3) The owner asserts that the babysitter called me several times and just did not leave a message. I do not believe this is true. 4) After texting me "as soon as you remove your yelp statement i will be happy to refund our 20.00 fee for scheduling n canceling a sitter," she did go ahead and refund the fee. To be clear, I did not request this refund. 5) The owner has told me multiple times by text message that she is contacting an attorney "in reference to slander and disrupting business on false pretenses." read more

AWESOME!!!! I picked Sitters at the Shore solely based on the Yelp reviews because my fiancé and I wanted a baby sitter for 5 hours during our stay at Borgata. We have never had a "stranger" watch our kids before. From the start communication was easy. We requested a sitter online and got a call and a text for more information. Our sitter arrived on time with toys and a friendly attitude. She right away started interacting with the kids (1 and 2 years old). She had toys, took them for a walk, fed them, changed diapers and got them in their PJs. We were having so much fun and she agreed to stay an extra hour for us! When we got back to our room at 1:00am, the kids were sound asleep. We highly recommend Sitters at the Shore and will use them the next time we came to AC! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! read more

I rarely post reviews but in the case of a service parents trust, particularly when they are away from home, I felt like I should post about my recent experience. My communication with Christine, the owner, was excellent - she was prompt with her emails and calls and made the scheduling process very easy. What she told me about the sitter she'd scheduled sounded great on paper, but when the sitter arrived I was really disappointed. She smelled so strongly of cigarettes that my son, who loves and hugs everyone, wouldn't sit on her lap. She had a hacking cough, and while I can't know if it's a smoker's cough or if she was sick, it didn't reassure me. She arrived almost 30 minutes early, which is certainly prompt but made me feel flustered because I was getting ready for an event and had to throw on a bathrobe to show her around. We ultimately decided we weren't comfortable with her watching our son, so we paid her the full amount and told her as politely as we could that we had decided to bring him to the event and wouldn't need babysitting after all. In the future, I would hope a babysitting service would screen sitters for something as basic as smoking, and disclose that to parents. We won't be using this company next time. read more

The sitter have all been prompt, professional & genuinely seemed to want to engage with our son. Christine has been able to accommodate us through all seasons & has always been professional and courteous with me/us. First time yelp reviewer ever- because the treatment was just that bad! I had used this service before and was satisfied (and really liked Ginger- the babysitter we were paired with in the past), hence the only reason I am giving it a 2. However, after booking online and receiving an automatically generated confirmation email more than 10 days before the date we needed the service, I ended up responding to the confirm email (2 days before babysitting date) as NO ONE reached out to me about a babysitter for the date I requested. My original email was short and polite just asking about the babysitting date and if I could get ginger again. The email correspondence from Christine was curt stating that she texted me "several times" and stated that she couldn't accommodate my date. To which I responded that I never got a text and sent her my cell number again (perhaps she had the number wrong) and asked if she could refer me to someone else if she couldn't accommodate . Again, another curt message stating that she im'ed me twice (several to twice!) and no she couldn't refer me to anyone. Hmmn- no explanation nor an apology for telling me so last minute. I responded and suggested that if someone doesn't respond back through their text (that one never got) that maybe she should have emailed that person. Because now, just 2 days before my planned babysitting night, I am screwed. Instead of taking my advice (customers are always right except in Christine's eyes) she came back with a rant on how text message is a more effectIve way of communication. REALLY, no sh*t Sherlock. I would have communicated through text had I got the text in the first place. Oh and then she continued by saying that they were 'too swamped' to communicate to all of her customers through text AND email. Bottom line, I should not have been the one to have to contact you. And any customer certainly should not have been treated so poorly. Period. Ps I am happy to post the email correspondence to show the true lack of professionalism I had received. Pps- after posting this last night, I woke up this morning to yet another email rant by Christine. For a woman who claims she's trying to accommodate "thousands" of families and simply has no time to email everyone who didn't respond via text, she seemed to make the time to be condescending in not one but 4 emails (two very lengthy). Time management at its 'best' I see! LAST EDIT: It seems to me that the owner wants to paint a completely different picture (with her response below). To be clear: I was not disappointed or dissatisfied that they were not able to accommodate our family (annoyed yes but easily over it), I was dissatisfied with the attitude that I received when I had mentioned that I never got a text. A simple "I'm sorry that you didn't receive the text I sent you, there must have been some mix up. Next time I will follow up with an email too. We hope to be able to accommodate your family in the future as needed." Would have gone a long way. Instead I received condescending antagonist lengthy emails. Not just one but 4 emails. Just bad business. Perhaps the owner should actually listen to what I had to say instead of barking at me. Again happy to post the email correspondence for Christine's customers to see for themselves- out of respect of privacy (email addresses, phone numbers) this will have to wait until I am back from vacation at a real computer to edit the private info out. read more

Our wedding reception was adults-only, so we wanted to ensure that there were accommodations for children. Christine and her staff helped ensure our reception ran smoothly and our guests who were parents could enjoy it by providing great child care. The kids of varying ages had activities on the nearby beach at our wedding hotel venue. Security was fine. Parents could relax and have fun while their child also had fun. read more

My husband and I were invited to a wedding in Cape May but we didn't know what to do about finding a babysitter for our three children. We have a regular sitter at home who is a friend of the family, so we felt apprehensive about leaving our children with a total stranger who was unfamiliar with them. We called Sitters at the Shore and Christine was so helpful! She talked us through the whole thing and asked us all about our situation so she could hook us up with the right sitter to meet our needs. One of our children is autistic and has some social anxiety but Christine reserved us a sitter who was certified in Special Ed. When the sitter came, she brought a bag full of toys and games for the kids. We talked with her for a little before we left and she really put our minds at ease. The next day our kids told us that they really liked her and wanted her to come back again the next night! We were only going out the one night but I told them, maybe next time. If we find ourselves in Cape May again, we're definitely calling Sitters at the Shore! They are real professionals and we highly recommend them! read more
