I signed my granddaughter up for Saturday morning beginner skating lessons. She loves the class and the 2 hour free skating sessions afterwards to practice what she has been taught. I am impressed and happy that she now uses both legs to skate and does not stay near the outside wall in case she falls. Her growing confidence in her skating skills is amazing to see. read more

This place has got middle school nostalgia written all over it. $30 for five weeks of skate lessons brought us in (I can't raise that one kid that holds on to the wall during skate parties! Something must be done!) and as I lace up my skates to circle the floor with him afterward I feel like I'm 13 again. Refreshment stand. Patterned carpet everywhere. Skee-ball. Luckily, this time I can skip the crush on the braces kid and the groups of catty pre-teen girls. They've got special deal nights (Saturday is $2.50 skate rentals for military), are constantly holding parties for local schools, and to top it off are surprisingly clean (for a roller rink). This place is kind of ghetto, and everything looks like it's at least thirty years old, but at least the prices are good for the skating. It will only cost you $5.50 for two hours. They have some arcade games, but most are broken, and the prize counter has a super weird system where you need at least 25 tickets to be able to buy anything. This place is absolutely amazing! It costs $5.50 to register (2 hours of skating) and 2.50 to rent skates if you don't already have some. There is also a mini arcade and a place to get some junk food. You can ask the DJ to play a song, and there are some games to do instead of just skating. There's a mini-arcade so you can win tickets and get something at the prize stand. The rental skates seem really nice and the wheels are straight. This place is definitely the best place to go to when I have a birthday party or if I just have some money burning a hole in my pocket. I don't even know where to start with this place but avoid it! The manager was so nasty to her employees. These poor young kids were just trying to do a job and this woman was so disrespectful and degrading. I felt so bad for them. They were there trying to do their job. I had my daughters birthday here and it was horrible. I would not recommend having a party here. It was expensive for what you get and your child really doesn't get any special treatment like they used to (we have had a few parties here before. I mean she was one of the birthday kids that won the hokey pokey came and they didn't even announce anything ( missed opportunity for them to go above and beyond.) To start off the pizza was horrible tasting, it was so chaotic, the table was always full off trash, but trying to keep things running smoothly I could not keep up the mess and so the table sat like a trash heap. You couldn't hear the DJ because the speakers are not that great and on top of that he was mumbling his words so when he announced for the birthday kids to come up for their birthday song while we were still right in the middle of doing cake she missed it I wish the host would have been more on top of it and let us know for her to go up before the announcement. Most embarrassing was one of my young guest's skate rentals were broke and there were no other skates near her size so one of my guests had to sit out the entire time, that was so mortifying that one of the guests you invited to the party can't even partake in the party activities. The manager said that's really nothing she could do about it or anything she could do to make up for it. My husband eventually got a free skate coupon which doesn't help because that guest doesn't live near that location. I don't know what happened to this Skate city because their parties used to be great and way worth the money, and management used to be awesome. This place has horrible service. Called ahead and said they don't need any reservations. The person at the front desk was not helpful at all. He was selfish and was insufficient to skate city. Fun place to skate music sucks though so bring some headphones. I kinda grew up with this as my local rink and everything I know about skating came from watching people and I still love it every time I go. It's impossible to predict how many people will be there because I've had 2-4 sessions on weekends where there were absolutely no people, and Monday nights when it was packed. So if you get a good session without people any day of the week just know your lucky. But no matter what day you come, if there's kids beware, it will be a mine field of small objects you might trip on on the rink. And please DONT hold hands in rows of 5+ people. I am an avid roller skater for many years, I've been to a lot of rinks. If you like roller skating you will enjoy Skate City. When my daughter was younger (under 13) she loved going with a friend to the Saturday morning kid session, parents skate free (10am to 12). I love the adult session Sunday night (8pm to 10:30). Floor: Good size, good quality. Floor rating (9/10). Music: Not bad, but could be better. Music rating (7/10) Snack Bar: Average snack bar quality food. Arcade: Very small selection of games. Backwards skating is allowed (not all rinks across the US allow backwards skating due to insurance reasons). Other people giving skate city low star reviews I feel are not used to going to any skating rinks, they are not aware of the average condition of rinks. Compared to other rinks I have been to, I still give Skate City a 5*. I've been to plenty of rinks I would never return to due to policy, setup and floor quality. If they make a mistake with anything, bring it to their attention, the manager is attentive, cares and will usually take care of it if you are civil. I will be returning to Skate City for as long as I live in the area. read more

This place is great for just skating, birthdays, parties l, etc. One bad thing is the service... We were waiting to get tix for a while. On top of that, the manager saw us waiting for them at the admission stand. Also, the waiters are very lousy and can sometimes ignore their customers. 27 years ago Skate City on Academy was the best fun activity for my young kids, and now, I am tickled to say, the BEST place for my granddaughter's 5th birthday party. We had about 25 people present. Corina was our Hostess. The table was decorated very nicely, and the pizza and soda were presented quickly, neatly and with big smiles. The party staff worked together smoothly, and the skating staff were fun and professional. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. It was a walk down memory lane from 1992 to 2019. The establishment looked fun until we found out it was undermanned. A lot of teenagers acting like they work there trying to run things. The whole place was messy and the staff was not friendly. We did not mind the crowd but the staff was not proffessional and they were not in their place of duty. The skate rental booth was empty for about 10 minutes before some random girl told me that did not work there told us he will be back in a minute. Then another random girl who did not work there told me "i could not be past the booth line" when i tried to knock on the staff door. And there she was behind the booth line acting like she worked there. We paid $16 and got back $15 refunded after having an an argument with the manager. This place is a fun place to skate in,but the problem I have are the condition of the skates. They are dirty, and some to them have the mental sticking out where the pads are.
