Pros: -big smooth floor -reduced price if you bring your own skates -very clean -lots of parking -friendly staff -friendly crowd -mix of skill levels Cons: -terrible music- the teenage "DJs" play 2010 era rap the entire time, even on adult skate. If you're so lucky as to hear something else, they'll cut it off halfway thru to play Like A G6 or worse, a Christian country song with no beat. They have their own Christian music night- shouldn't that be enough? Absolutely distraught at how fast this once beloved childhood jewel is no longer going to be getting much of my family's business anymore. This has been a slow down-hill compiled mix of dissatisfaction over these few years that tonight has taken the cake. We are no longer allowed, as an adults in our OWN skates, to step outside ON their oning, NOT gravel, and then reenter, without removing your skates first. Let me repeat: im not talking about rental skates, YOU MUST TAKE OFF YOUR OWN SKATES. Mind you this place has NO SERVICE INSIDE. This has been the first time in ALL of my years, as an adult AND many years not, that I have EVER heard of this rule. Not to mention, I have a UMBILICAL HERNIA, and I came out tonight JUST TO SEE if I could still be okay to skate because I'm very much a dedicated skater. And to be met with even more difficulties than I have already, not wanting to explain to a TEENAGER just exactly WHY it might hurt to take these bad boys on and off just for a few seconds outside, JUST wanting to do the ONE THING that makes everything better for me? Rocks? ROCKS??? COMING INSIDE IS THE REASONING? Why??? cause they might have to sweep a little more? Trip hazards? In comparison of the inconveniences costumers face every time they visit here, they want to act like us stepping out for two seconds with OUR OWN BOUGHT AND PAID FOR skates, on is an issue? I took a video of their oning, and the ONE rock there? TOO BIG to get stuck in a skate. If there were rocks in your SKATE you couldn't ROLL, let alone skate far enough to drag the rocks inside . And to add a perfect PERSONAL example to the uselessness of this rule, MY KID spilled the nerds candy available at the concessions on the floor (don't worry we pick up our messes) and how did I find them? WITH MY SKATE. Multiply that by every kid in a busy night, I would BET MONEY those come up on the floor more often than I have EVER seen rocks Inside. A month ago(April 5th) for my sisters birthday party we RENTED out the rink, they didn't have this rule I am upset because physically it HURTS me now and takes so much time to do those motions repetitively for a simple two hour Skate window; removing the skates cuts into my already drastically limited skate time. AS DOES HAVING TO WAIT AROUND and then teach my daughter how to kindly ASK THE EMPLOYEES TO SERVE YOU BEYOND THE TICKET BOOTH. (Not that that's their fault if staffing is wonky, but come on now! Again, your customers Compromise For You, the business THEY CHOOSE to continue to support for YEARS. Maybe compromise for them and not threaten employees they will be fired if they don't enforce this petty and POINTLESS stuff...this has been the final straw. Being a customer since I was 9 years old( I am 28 years old now), this honestly breaks my heart for ALL of my fond memories here. I was (or tired to be) very nice to your young employees, I tried to offer understanding of the matter, asking understanding in return and blamed long finger nails instead if my health; but after this, we will not continue to pay outrageous prices for less windows of skate times, be UNDERSTANDING to your business and employees as customers in our wait times at concessions to be met with such ridiculous new rules that show you do not care to compromise for the ones that wanted to keep you here as long as you all have been. Evey visit has done nothing but give me more and more reasons this just isn't fun enough to want to pay this much and be treated like teenagers. This is fully a business-run issue, Not these poor teenage employees they have to push these new "stipulations" and have to deal with more disgruntled folks like me. I do hope these "little things" that break the customer's hopes in having that safe but still fun and enjoyable aspect, can find a medium being useful annd reasonable instead of just down-right petty. I hope they show us our opinions do actually matter to these owners so they can find better solutions to accommodate the people who kept them in business for so long before another part of all our childhood nostalgia is pushed to non-existence because business just "isn't the same." read more

I was on a road trip and just settled into my hotel for the night. When I soon realized there is a skate rink open nearby. I try to attend rinks when it is adult night normally. For my first time coming here, I didn't know what to expect. I hadn't been roller skating in forever, and I was nervous I would be in the way of the better people there. However, it was totally different to what I was expecting. It was hot, of course, but the music was loud and joyful. They played a variety of genres, but the majority were R&B throwbacks. There was a decently large crowd, but they were all so sweet. My friend and I were complimented, which got us in a good mood and so we gave other people compliments. I even got offered help from a total stranger! She really helped me get down the basics of roller skating, and she was extraordinarily encouraging. My friend and I had a stellar time. I would recommend this place to anyone, young or old, who is looking for a great fun time in the evening. 10/10 read more

Lame. Would not have a party here unless it was private. Too chaotic during open skate time. The staff is rude. Can't bring in your own water bottle. I'm sorry but I'm not overpaying for your little bottle. Music is lame. Games are lame. Customers are lame. Mostly bratty preteens without manners thinking they're cool with their flashing pacifiers. I had my daughter's 3rd birthday party at Skatetown in November. It was a nightmare! The establishment was so crowded that they ran out of skates to fit my guests. Therefore many of them couldn't even skate, yet I was still charged over the amount of the party for extra guests??? When I tried to complain, a smug 20ish boy who said he was the manager told me that they couldn't guarantee skates. This was the same boy that told me he would help me through the process of the party and didn't even bring out the ice cream for our guests to have. Then at the end of the party he brings me a bill for extra guests skating (but they didn't) while I'm saying good bye to my guest and he demands payment in front of them. So unprofessional...so unpleasant :( I would definitely never recommend having a party at Skatetown. read more

Since there's only one con, I'll cover it first: the floor isn't maintained well. There are some rough areas. However, since I skate outside regularly, this doesn't bother me as much as it might some people. Now for the pros: everything else! The decor is cool and retro, the staff are all friendly and welcoming (and the DJ even played one song request for me), they actually make sure everyone is skating in the same direction for safety, and the floor guards are actually out there doing their jobs. It is such a relief after having been to another rink in the area that does none of these things. They have a snack bar as well, though all I purchased while I was there was water, so I can't review the food. Everything else was great! Two thumbs up! read more

It's a fun place to go and hang out With friends. Very cheap prices to get in. But there's always down falls to every place you go to. I been going for about a month and a half now wIth all my friends. They need to upgrade. Clean the place up some. And make sure their bathrooms are clean so things don't stick to the skates. They have a bunch of spoiled teen ages guys that run the place. They have one employee named Carson who runs around and flirts with girls who I've he's supposed to be watching the floors and making sure people obey the rules. Every time I'm there he has another girl and he doesn't make them pay to get in. They let a bunch of drunks come in and stay while there are little kids there trying to have fun. If they are gonna allow this they should tell parents so they can make sure their kids are safe. read more

TERRIBLE. Literally that is the first word that comes to mind. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Google "review skatetown knoxville" and read what most ppl post about this place. Management and staff are unprofessional and thuggish(another posters description- but unfortunately accurate). In my case they did not tell us that we could not bring pizza and drinks into the building for my sons birthday party. They claimed they tell everyone this and showed us the "contract" they allegedly read over the phone to my wife--- funny thing is they had checked off each clause EXCEPT THE ONE ABOUT BRINGING IN THE FOOD. They would not let us bring in our 3 pizzas and cooler of drinks. Of course they will sell you a medium cheese (they called it large) pizza & a pitcher (they claim its 2 liters) of soft drink for $20.00. I saw it at an adjoining table & I'm glad we didn't get ripped off further. I asked if there was anything we could do or if they could help us out and their response was "we would have to do it for everyone" and "we told you so you have to put the food and drinks in the car". I am writing this review using their wifi while waiting in the car for people to come out and enjoy the food we promised them in the invitations. Additionally, they had this jerk (using nice words today) who was trying to corral and check ppl in get mouthy when I gave him a response he didn't like to a question he asked me. TERRIBLE. [Edited later after we left and was speaking with some of our guests] Apparently a female member of our party went to use the bathroom, 2 of the 3 toilets were clogged up, she reported it to an older staff lady. The staff hags response was "Did you see it for yourself that they were clogged?" What kind of place would ask that if someone is telling a business owner that they have a maintenance item???!!! Additionally, when we were leaving I saw a lady taking in 7 Little Caesars pizza boxes.... I went inside and asked to speak to the manager--the little punk (that I had words with) came out and stated that the party with the pizza's had rented the entire facility for 200.00 so they could bring in food and my party "ONLY PAID 100.00 that's why you cannot bring in food." So bottom line: this place is elitist(ppl with more money get more perks), snotty(jerk), rude(jerk &staff hag), & dirty(bathrooms) P.S. I tried to give it zero stars but the system wouldn't allow it. read more

Just got back from Skatetown, and I feel that people considering going here should know what I experienced. First, it was a waste of money on the light up necklaces since they didn't turn the lights down. The food was over priced, $18 for a pizza. At closing, I wondered why so many people were staying inside instead of going to their cars. Turns out there was a young man outside with a long knife stating that he wants to kill everybody. No one called the police. An older lady working there said she'd handle it. I'm assuming she knew who this guy was because she got him to leave. Even if she did know him, that didn't gurantee she would be safe either. I give this place the lowest rating, not just because of the knife welding man, but because the rink is in such poor condition also. Also there was a small child, maybe two years old, running out onto the rink, while the mother ignored him. She was busy skating, and everyone else was having to look out for him. I didn't go to babysit. I'm watching out for my son, who is eight. She was on her cell phone while skating, like quite a few others, and didn't even have any of the people she was with look after him. He ran into the path of the skaters quite a few times, yet nothing was said to the mother. I guess since they have signs stating skate at your own risk, they don't feel the need to prevent accidents. I couldn't believe no one called the police on the guy with the knife. If I saw him, I would have taped him with my phone, and have someone call the police. Skating used to be such a safe, fun experience, with adults watching out for you. This place is an embarrassment. read more
