The open spaces to roam are essential for us, and we felt good about him being on the playground side. The staff was really nice on the way in and was occasionally walking the grounds, picking up, checking in, etc. Improvements needed: the hands-on toy section needs a redo. At one point, I'd say it was in excellent quality...but it's clear wear and tear and no investment have led to some of the tiny rooms leaving little to the imagination, with most stuff scattered about with no structure (and existing toys worn out). Kids can make the most of a lot, but this needs a refresh. Side note...the furniture has some sharp points too...if budget can't permit replacing with things with smoother edges, then at least put some covers on the corners. We didn't feel good about that section and tried to block and cover it. That, or gate it. All aside, we are grateful for all the little spots like these that give variety to our kiddo with special needs.

We were there for a…read morespecial event that was trick or treating for the local special needs community - I am so grateful for this event and the inclusion it brought to a lot of awesome kids. The venue itself is awesome, with lots of open play spaces before you head in (semi-fenced for those eloping kiddos out there). Once inside the gated and fenced in area let's ASD parents like ourselves take a breath and enjoy the space a bit more. I loved seeing some of the themes of Knoxville and TN baked into everything - it was well kept and our little loved it a lot! Excited to come back in the future once it's open again officially. We're at a strong 4/5 here and would recommend to any families that need to challenger their kid to be more OK with social settings and activities before they get into school and overwhelmed with the social pressure. I'd say my rating is more about the experience with certain staff over others more than anything. So, let's get into it. Generally the place looks tremendously clean (bathrooms too), with plenty of seating for observers - a little tight though as kids are coming in and out between sessions. The staff to greet you in is usually on point for friendliness and directing to the right spots - most of the time I perceive it's a manager or someone in supervision. Our son is Level3 ASD and has his own series of challenges. For the most part the instructors he had at the start were super understanding of him - even trying at times to help and other times to leave him be (and understood why he needed space). Our current ones? Maybe not so much...you can always tell when people are annoyed and if you think the children don't see it then you are dead wrong. That aside, I am tremendously grateful that at times they let 2 of us be with our son, especially when he's having issues. At the "little gym" down the road for example we were scolded openly about rules and "only 1 inside" before we could explain anything. Needless to say we cancelled it there. Room for improvement? At times I think the curriculum is too challenging for walking to 2 years old - examples are trying to do burpees and tug of war...if I didn't compromise other kids privacy I'd record it to show how uneventful it is due to them just simply being too little. My feedback is, try to adjust the curriculum to make more sense for the littles. For bigger kids I'm sure it's a blast.

You can bring a volleyball to use at the net, or bring a picnic and enjoy the view from the covered pavilion with tables galore. The playground itself has a good amount of options for both big and little kids to explore, with bridges, poles, climbing areas, slides of differing sizes, etc. There is a separate swing area that has a few baby swings, a few normal swings, and then one of those ADA accessible plastic swings, with the bars that go over your shoulders like on a roller coaster ride. There was an abundance of standing water between the playground and pavilion and it hasn't rained particularly hard for awhile, so I can't imagine how soggy the playground and deep the water gets after stronger rains. You also need to pay very close attention to your young ones due to unobstructed/unrestricted access to the water very close by. So, if you have multiple kids to keep track of and/or a runner, you may want to bring an additional adult or skip this one.

The playground equipment is appropriate for toddlers and bigs. There is at least one bbq grill, a picnic area, gazebo, flat activities court, an adorable mini art gallery, doggy bag station and plenty of benches. If you are visiting the nearby Central Filling Station food truck park with kids, take a walk down here and let them run off some steam before calling it a day, or heading to a brewery. Perfect if you're closing out the museum and need a place to run off energy afterwards before heading home. It has a parking lot next to it that would be accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. There is a covered pavilion with picnic tables, a playset for bigger kids and an area for the little ones with smaller climbing areas and slides. A separate swingset and a great grassy hill, perfect for rolling down round out this nice park. Why not 5 stars? Lots of litter and not quite as well-maintained as some of the other parks in town. Doesn't impact the stars (since it's not the park/city's fault), but we also left in a hurry last time due to the house next door practicing their shooting. Gun shots and smoke scared my kiddos quite a bit.
