Great hill, quick lifts, nice service. Perhaps being a bit too generous on their classification of a double black/black hill (neither were very challenging) however I suppose for the Midwest they were slightly steeper than normal. I was happy with the ski portion of my family's experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My issue was with the Anderson Lake Lodge where my family stayed for two nights between Christmas and New Years. The Lodge itself is very nice and a great place for entertaining. There were a few minor issues such as half the coffee maker not working and no heat in the clothes dryer. Don't where a good swimsuit in the hot tub as it will get bleached out and be careful because the controls are very worn. The big issue was mice. Our first morning there, I awoke to find food items left on the kitchen counter covered with holes and mouse poop. The bottom pan drawer next to the range has mouse poop in it. I actually saw a mouse in the basement both days, including the time it ran at my wife. I understand why mice would gravitate towards a remote home. What I don't understand is why there were no bait stations or traps anywhere to be found. The resort should have a professional exterminator regularly treat Anderson Lake Lodge so no one gets sick. read more

Love this ski hill for several reasons. We came here quite a bit as kids and always stayed in one of the chalets across the road. Now grown up with kids of our own my family still loves it! It is a great hill for families. A good variety of runs for all levels. The ski school for kids is a great way for them to learn and leave you with some alone time skiing! They have activities during the day at the hill from tubing to petting zoos depending on the day you are there. Kids 9 and under ski free! I'd recommend buying lift tickets in advance and saving some money. The staff is always helpful and looking to make your visit as good as it can be. We stayed in Pioneer Lodge this year...while it needs to be updated quite a bit it suit us just fine. From full kitchens to outdoor hot tubs for all to use to gas grills at the ready for all units, it was a great place to stay on the hill! Saturday night we decided to check out tubing on Homestead (free with a lift ticket purchase). We took the shuttle from the lodge to the sleigh area located at the bottom of the hill. They had a nice fire going and hot chocolate for free. The sleigh (pulled by the snow groomer-pretty cool!) took us up to Homestead Lodge where we checked in, grabbed a tube and proceeded to have lots of fun and laughs! Don't let the fact you have to walk your tube back up scare you....it's not bad at all and we had ages from 6-68 who had no problems! Again the staff was great. We had a blast. read more

Alright, usually I don't write reviews like this but Ski Brule should legally not be able to provide lodging for future customers. My boyfriend and I are from southeast Wisconsin. We planned a snowmobiling and snowboarding trip a month prior to our stay at Ski Brule. (which we have never been) Very sadly enough, My little cousin was found dead in a Chicago hotel and due to the circumstances we were not able to head north for our vacation. I called Ski Brule to ask if they did partial refunds or any other accommodation like moving our vacation dates. They apologized and told me no. Fine. I get that. We then booked again two weeks later and paid full price for three night stay. We got there at 1pm in the afternoon. We were early but the place was DEAD, so we attempted to check in. The guy and lady in the office was very nice. Told us that they still had to do some cleaning and it would be an hour or two. Cool that's alright, we figured we would go get drinks and food for lunch and check out what they had to offer. We went up stairs to the one lodge bar they had. There was one bartender, she was nice as well. Slow but nice. We got our drinks and ordered some Mac n cheese bites to munch on as we looked at the rest of the menu. As we settle in and are enjoying ourselves and our drinks, we are ready to order food. The bartender comes around with a paper plate with 6 Mac n cheese bites that are COLD also no side of ranch, ketchup, etc... and says I'm sorry but we're actually closing the kitchen. But was very nice to give us the Mac n cheese bites that were sitting in the cafeteria all day. We did appreciate that because we were hungry. We spent probably a total of 45 minutes before we got a call from the office saying our chalet was ready. Our stay at Hell's Window When we got to the cabin, we were very excited to get inside. It was a beautiful area and the house seemed to be beautiful as well. When we got inside, we knew right away that the place had not been updated in a long long time. We are clean people, maybe even overly but we were not impressed with the cleanliness whatsoever. Right away we could feel a breeze through the whole place so boyfriend made us a fire. There was no matches. No lighter. Small bundle of wet wood. No newspaper. And the fan worked only on one setting, high. But it didn't work because the fan made loud banging noise as soon as it was switched to on. We got out of the house and went to get food since we couldn't get it at Ski Brule. When we got back we made homemade meatloaf and hit the tub and watched tv. Small old old ANCIENT TV. We tried every bed to see what crappy bed we really wanted. We went with the downstairs by the bathroom. As we are falling asleep, we hear dripdripdrip drip drip drip to the right of the bed. Leaking roof. Cool. Catch the sleep we can, wake up in the morning to make breakfast and drink coffee like every other human. Such limited dishes in general but due to making meatloaf the night before I had to wash the dishes we used. There was an old, very old used dish scrubbie. And the only one available. Gross. Wash the dishes, make food, wash the dishes again and go to put them away. There is a DEAD MOUSE laying in the back of the cabinet used to store dishes! Seriously so gross and it smelled so it had to have been there for however long it takes for a dead mouse to stink terriblly. There was no rugs anywhere in the place which made it super slippery when using the hot tub or walking in from the snow. We got snow the day before and a lot of it. We had to go down to the office to get a shovel to shovel the walk way. On the last night of our interesting stay, we were sitting in front of the fire enjoying some tv. The wood stored outside was damp and didn't have a tarp or anything to prevent the wood getting wet. When we finally got the fire going, it was going. Because no fan and wet wood, so we loaded that baby up. Doing that, not sure if the glass got too hot or if the wood just laid on it inncoerrecly but the glass cracked. We left the place a million times cleaner then when we arrived. And you Ski Brule people know that. Now listen to this. They had the audacity to charge $770 dollars to the credit card on file for damages. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. $770 dollars. Where in the heck you get that number, there is something wrong with you. No receipt or justification for that amount of money. No email. Nothing. That fireplace wasn't even worth $200. Explains a lot now. Ski Brule won't exist much longer...for lodging that is. Disgusting. And I wasn't even going to post a review but since you think you can take money that doesn't belong to you. I will expose the true information and true experiences we lived. We take many vacations together. And EVERY stay we have ever had we have great reviews about leaving the place as we found it if not better and they would love for us to stay again. Ski Brule is always the first to open and last to close. They have 17 runs and is good for the beginner skier or snowboarder. They have a kids day care and ski school, tubing, BBQ at Homestead Lodge, and a Torch Light Parade. Tons of places to stay near the resort and they have a horse and carriage to bring you to the hill and back to your cabin. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

We went over the Thanksgiving week and had a nice time. We chose not to stay on the property, as there was only two of us, and we didn't want to spend over $100.00 per night, so we stayed in town in Iron River. It took us 15 minutes to get to the ski resort. The facilities were nothing fancy and on par with other established ski resorts in the Midwest. It's a family owned business which employs a lot of people. I think they could train their cashiers better to help you figure out what the best deal is. Hint - invite me to be a friend/neighbor for the discount it will give me for a three day pass. I'll take the time to fill out the paperwork to save the $15.00. A three days pass for the two of us was a little over $250.00. The girls at check-out did not look like they liked their jobs, unlike the lovely islanders employed seasonally who were kind, gracious and helpful. The cafeteria food is exactly like the cafeteria food I remember from high school, except that it is quite expensive, but that is to be expected when you have a captive audience and the nearest restaurant is 15 miles away. They served a buffet style Thanksgiving dinner which was actually cheap ($12.00/person), and I think mainly to accommodate their guests since all the restaurants in town were closed that day. The food was fine, but buying tickets, the line to be served, seating and paying were all terribly disorganized. Kinks to be worked out for future Thanksgivings. Since I'm a beginner skier, I was worried about having to use a tow rope but the green hills were accessible with a ride on the same chairs that serviced the other hills. The green trails are long and perfectly challenging but not too hard. They are great to work on muscle memory, skiing side to side and making "J"s while going downhill on gentle slopes. I love the one, long green trail that was open. I wish the other was open but all week long, it stayed closed. Between the two green trails, they are on the outside and encompass all the other hills between them so again, nice, long trails with lots of gentle slopes. read more

This place is a bad joke. Had been visiting my roommates family up there and we were supposed to have karaoke. They cancelled the karaoke group we had picked last minute and hired some other guy. He was absolutely terrible. Their drinks and food are super expensive. Ended up cancelling our stay out there and just staying at the AmericInn in town, cheaper lodging, went to the bar down the street for cheaper drinks and had more fun anyways. Just do yourselves a favor and avoid this place. read more

Most of the staff there were very friendly, so 3 stars for that. The food was not good. My husband had nachos - pretty hard thing to mess up, right? He said they were like Cheez Whiz with tomato soup "chili." Worst he's ever had. The salad bar had iceberg lettuce and packaged artificial foodservice ranch dressing. Overcooked burgers that sat under a heater for hours. They had a full bar, and the bar area had a cool atmosphere (especially when the fireplace was kept going), but the beer and wine selection was pretty limited. They should take some cues from Ivan's at Schuss Mountain - not fancy at all, but more good beer and decent food. read more

This place is ok for beginners. Always had fun. The big negative is all of a sudden, they require you to wear a strap that connects your board to your ankle/leg. Most boarders don't not use such a pointless device, but all they require you to pay 20 dollars for one and tell you that it is a new state law. Drive to Indian Head or Bohemia, and they do not have such a dumb requirement. The most annoying thing is they don't tell you that you need this when you pay for your lift ticket. I went with 8 guys last time, we all paid, get outside all geared up, only for the lift operator to makes us all go back inside to get the useless leash, and have to stand in the rental shop line to get it. Very nice little spot at a great value. Our kids (under 9) were free and adult tickets are very reasonably priced. Lodge was clean and staff was super friendly. Conditions were excellent and all trails were very well groomed. Great spit to take the family and young skiers. read more

Hey #Karaoke_Fans!! @SKI_BRULE in Iron River,MI has once again; Last minute entertainment change.They are making a practice of treating people this way. Pass the word. As it turns out they did have karaoke but replaced the regular person we go for with another karaoke person. He was horrible. His system sucked; 2 small speakers. You sang through his laptop. The so called song book was mish-mash and he couldn't sing. He had no idea if he had Toby Keith plus he spelled it with a C--Coby. I don't drive all the way there for that. Shitty business dealings. If they treat business people like this, I feel sorry for the employees. I won't go back for karaoke if that's what they're offering. I'm a Laura's Lyrics Fans. I let them know how you feel! The resort and accommodations are older and dated and expensive. The people that work here though are some of the friendliest and accommodating I have ever seen though. The food is cafeteria style unless you go to the Homestead (Horse drawn sleigh) for their very fun BBQ and night tubing. Very family friendly...will be back! read more

It was my daughter and my first REAL ski experience and WE LOVED IT. Steve in the rental room helped me find some rental boots that actually let me enjoy skiing for the first time. My first set was awful and he came up and helped me find some boots that really made the experience enjoyable. Awesome job Steve (because before I kind of hated skiing)! Our ski instructor Justin was really great. We took an 1.5 hour lesson. He offered great instructions, was very positive, was just plain nice, and went over everything to get us going on the more advanced slopes. The entire staff was remarkably nice; from the rental room with offering assistance with fitting boots & gear, to the lunch area to clear the trays, to outside when I told some random guy I didn't need my poles anymore (and he took them in for me), to the ski shop where I was fitted with some new boots. It seemed like at every turn someone was offering some really nice assistance. The staff was not only really nice but really knowledgeable too. Jessica helped fit me with some new boots and I felt that she not only gave me a great deal, but really helped fit them to me. I'm super excited to try out this new sport. Thank you Team Brule!! Don't trust their website! We (a party of 21 people) looked up dates, times, and rates posted on the website and drove an hour to Ski Brule to snow board, ski, and snow tube. When we showed up, the times online were accurate. Snow tubing, which was supposed to be available from 9a-4p, was not going to be open until 5pm. White water tubing and snow shoeing, which was said to be open on the website from 1-3, was not even available at all due to lack of sufficient snow. 2/3 of our party had come for these activities and were unable to do anything. On top of it all, customer service was poor. They did not care that the website was outdated and didn't seem to know that they had a website. They seem to have the slopes available to support the snow showing activity. It's understandable that sometimes you just work at a place and have no control over what the website says, but even then no explanation or apology for the inconvenience was given. They didn't care either that we had come all this way or not--only if we were gunna spend our money on rentals and lift tickets or leave. I guess the bottom line is if you want to even have an experience here, you should call first. And don't expect them to care because they don't. I definitely will not come back to this place in the future even if I have activities for the day confirmed over the phone. read more

My family has been going to Ski Brule for over 20 years!!! It is a tradition to go over President's Day weekend. It has a family friendly atmosphere. My older kids just go off skiing on their own for the day...they LOVE it!! Nothing beats a stop halfway to the hill at the Homestead Lodge for a bite to eat, a hot drink and a warm up. The staff is AMAZING!!! Very quick with any request. They are friendly and kind, especially the Jamaicans!! The shuttle driver this year was new to us, I think his name was Kurt. He was so fabulous! We stay on site and our family calls a lot for drop offs and pick ups to the ski hills. The shuttle service to such a great perk at Ski Brule. Kurt responds quickly and was helpful and courteous! He never made us feel like we were inconveniencing him, always had smile and a helping hand for us. Also, don't miss the Saturday night BBQ at Homestead and then head the the main lodge after for Karaoke...also family friendly! read more
