Great pharmacy with a small town feel. Prices are way better than the chain pharmacy's and the people are super friendly!

I'm not sure I can tell you anything about Safeway that you don't already know if you've visited…read moreany of their other locations, but if you're new to the area, the chain, or the country, maybe there are a few things to note. First, things are pricey here. I'm not sure if it's just the extra trucking required to come all the way up and over to Anacortes, or if these are Washington prices, but there were a few moments of sticker shock as I stocked up my cart for the next week and a half of eating. Produce and meat especially, though there are certainly still steals and deals to be had. I've been here twice, and both were over the holidays. It was elbow to elbow shopping and the parking lot was a zoo--if it's a busier time or season, be prepared to hunt for a spot to park. Safeway is one of those "member card" places, where everyone can be a member and you have to swipe your card or punch in your phone number. At some point, we all agreed that instead of just selling us the products at the price they definitely can, that we would let them track us and our shopping habits and harvest our data by swiping a card every time we shop. It's asinine, but that's how they operate. There's a Safeway gas station across the street, and I've filled up there twice before going to the San Juan islands and paying island fuel prices. It's not a bad move, and the ferry is just down the road. All in all, pretty convenient if you're headed to the islands and want to stock up before the prices go up to island sticker shock levels.

This rating is for the soda fountain/ restaurant. We walked into the pharmacy to kill time before…read morethe place we were going to opened up. In the back of the store is an old school soda fountain diner. Like Woolworths used to have when I was a small child. It took me back to being a kid and asking grandma to buy me a sundae or a bag of Fritos with a scoop of chili in it. All I wanted to do was look at the menu so I walked over and opened one up at the counter. As I was perusing an older gentleman told me about the Saturday special. Burger and fries for $4.75, $4.95 if you want cheese on it. His arrived as we were talking and it looked so good we decided to stay. I'm glad we did! We both had cheeseburgers. I never have onion on mine, it's too sharp of a flavor and takes away from the burger. Bun was lightly toasted, plenty of smatterings but not too much. The beef was grilled on a flat top and had a nice crispiness to it but still juicy. It's a thinner pattie but was plenty for the sandwich. You get a couple of leaves of lettuce and a thick tomato. It made me think of a Dick's deluxe if it wasn't mass produced. We had lunch at Lunchbox laboratory the day before and I have to tell you I liked this better! The fries were to die for! They are thinner like McDonald's fries but come unsalted. Which I liked because I'm an adult and can decide how much salt I want. Beautiful crispy fries served piping got. So darn good! The whole meal was perfection in a plastic basket. We really struck gold by chance and we are so happy for it. Definitely coming back!

There's no soda fountain anymore. It used to have the best blackberry shakes. Closed when new owner…read moretook over from Don. Pre pandemic. Used to always get prescriptions here when I lived here.

Solid experience here. It is in the middle of nowhere but was sorta busy. Perhaps it was people…read moregetting ready for a long labor day weekend that there was quite a few people here on a Saturday morning at 10am. What was really nice was just how clean and spacious it was. There was a lot of space to maneuver, and lots of choices. Nothing particularly different or unique or anything that was regional here in its offerings. Came here for some beer, poultry, cheese, and other smaller items. Other than that. It was a pretty standard super center. Everything was pretty much located in the same position as other supercenters.

Let's be honest: times are tough economically. And while I try to support locally-owned businesses…read moreas often as I can, when it comes to meeting my basic grocery and household needs, it's hard to go wrong with a Walmart Supercenter. They pretty much have everything here, which is good AND bad, because it can be easy to overspend if you're just wandering through. I mostly shop here via the fantastic Walmart app, where I order my groceries (or whatever else I need) to be delivered - almost always within two hours or less! The app even has meal planning and recipe tools, and (since I use it a couple of times a month) can also suggest meal ideas based on what it thinks I already have. This cuts down HUGELY on food waste and on grocery expenses. I really like this tool! As for the store itself, it's always clean and well-stocked. The employees are also incredibly helpful when I can't find something. I love that they recently quadrupled their beer section, including adding a ginormous new cooler so they now carry chilled versions of specialty craft beers. Previously, only the "big name national brands" were chilled. If you were craving a six-pack of Bodhi, you had to either go elsewhere or allow a few hours for it to sit in the fridge when you got home. Finally, a big shoutout to their oil change staff. I've been getting my oil changed here for a few years now, and they are always super friendly and helpful. Their oil change prices are about half what I've seen at other oil change operations, and they offer everything from the cheapie options to super premium/synthetic/high mileage name brands. They have tires and batteries here, too.

I made an appointment for some vaccinations. My on line confirmed appointment time was 11:20 am…read more I got there on time. I stood at the empty counter for 10 minutes ("Pick Up" line is where you go for vaccinations.) A couple employees passing by did say "I'll be right with you." Eventually the counter was staffed and I was asked to fill out a form on a clip board. The form was the same one I'd been enticed to complete on-line as a way of saving time. I filled out all the same information again, and turned it in. Other people presumably waiting for vaccinations stacked up behind me, eventually 4 deep, outside the private consulting room where they give shots. Nobody went into that room, and nobody came out. I was first in line for my shots. But they apparently did not have anyone on staff who could give shots. 40 minutes after arrival I told the guy in line behind me good luck and left. With the drive, this was a waste of an hour and forty minutes of my time. On the way out I almost bought a bottle of Bactine, but figured I'd not reward them for wasting my time. I found the identical product at Wal-Mart for $5 less. On the positive side, this store is better stocked (post Chapter 11 filing) than the store in Freeland. Not great, but better.
