Skillful Construction fixed my foundation yesterday. I was VERY HAPPY with the job they did. First let me say that from my initial call to the company, the quick bid and prompt scheduling of my job, this company did everything right....and they charged me a fair price..! You really can't ask for more than that. Initially the job did not look that complicated. I had some high piers in the main house and in the Mother-in-law addition the floor felt soft, with a noticeable hump in the middle running the length of the structure. After arriving on site and making quick work of the high piers, the crew turned its attention to the addition. What initially looked like a fairly simple job re-leveling everything turned out to be anything but simple. The entire foundation in my addition was sub-par. The floor joists were undersized and too far apart. There were no posts under the load bearing walls and not enough beams to support the floor system resulting in the perimeter and middle beam staying rather level to each other, but everything in between sagging. Not only that, but the whole floor gave under the weight of an average sized man. Being a fairly slim female, I had not noticed the bouncing, it just felt "soft" to me. The point of telling you how poorly built the floor system was it to point out that the solution required more work than anticipated. Skillful Construction fixed the foundation right. They did not cheap shot my job. They put in two extra beams the entire length of the addition to distribute the weight and support the span of the floor joists. They added piers under the existing interior walls and re leveled the entire structure adding piers as needed. When they were done, not only did my foundation look impressively built from underneath, but the guys came in and jumped on the floor...and it was solid as a rock. Other than some extra money to pay for the additional supplies, they still got the job done in the time allotted and honored the bid...and they also helped me out with another problem I had. If you want to build something right you first have to have a good foundation. Now that my foundation is solid, I will be able to proceed with the gut remodel I have planned for this property. At first I was skeptical because this is the second time I have to fix the foundation. Terry began to earn my trust when he got under the house with me and pointed out the mistakes of the previous contractor. He was honest about the cost and reassured me the mistakes would be corrected in the best possible way. I got a good vibe talking to him. Terry and his crew were great to work with. They came through promptly with a detailed quote and were the only company of 4 that I contacted that did so. He expressed a willingness to work with residential customers. He liaised with us throughout the entire process, explaining what they were doing and why, and kept closely to his quote. They left the place in immaculate condition (we feared when we saw them mid-stream we might have to clean up) but they did everything. Very professional and genuine. When we contacted these guys, I was sort of in a bind. We needed to check the foundation on a house we were thinking of buying. My buyers option was quickly coming to an end. I called for an appointment and even though they were booked for 2 weeks out; I explained my situation and they gave me an appointment in 4 days. Terry met me at the location, super nice guy by the way. He immediately started to explain what he was going to do to determine the condition of the foundation. Skillful did a great job leveling a house for us. This was a very complicated job, with a cement slab and two additional pier and beam additions that required over 50 piers. They worked flawlessly with our engineer, and were on time and did exactly what they said they would do. Edward was outstanding to work with, and would work with him again in the future. He is very hands on and lead a very good crew. He was easy to deal with and answered all of my questions. Very happy with the job! I had a sagging floor with my pier and beam foundation. Contacted Terry after reading many positive reviews (BBB, and Angie's List). They came out within a day and had the job done in about 6 hours. The crew was great...respectful of my home, kept me informed, and knew what they were doing! They showed me the problem (rotting support beams on the outer wall), fixed it, said the rest of the pier and beams looked good. They left the job neat, and hauled away all the debris.
