I've been a client, (waxing) for several years. The quality of service for a lot of businesses went down the drain post Covid but not Skin Beauty Bar!!!! When you walk up it's a vibe! From the seating area which allows you to sit still and gather yourself after coming in from the hectic energy of the streets, to the quiet room where your services are actually performed, the energy is sooo good, the atmosphere is peaceful. The receptionist is attentive and friendly. The rooms where the services are performed are clean and comfortable. Meka (the owner), is friendly and greets you with a smile. I moved to the DMV area last year and my skin was not cooperating with the cold, dry weather. I searched online for an esthetician and came across Skin Beauty Bar. All of the reviews I read were comforting. It is also a Black-owned business, so I definitely felt this was the place for me to go. The booking process online is very simple. You select which facial you want, request the date and time of your appointment, and pay your deposit. The estheticians respond to your request usually the same day. So far, I've gotten about 3-4 facials with Meka and a waxing with Bri. They are the absolute best. For my facials, Meka is so attentive on the progress of my skin over the last year. She is very informative on what I should/shouldn't use on my skin and if I should switch up anything in my daily routine. Bri is very informative on how to take care of my skin after a waxing. I've even recommended a friend come here, and they absolutely loved it! Skin Beauty Bar is worth the money and the results. I'm so happy I found this place up here! read more

I never write reviews and did not intend to write one here, but I've had such amazing customer service experiences in the month since my negative experience with this company that I felt obligated to come back and write a review here. As a black woman who gets frequent facials and other spa treatments, I was very excited to try out this small, local, black-owned company. I booked an appointment for two services online, but when I showed up I was told that the appointment had actually been scheduled for the same time, but the day before. I was surprised. I had not received a call asking me where I was the day before and I had intended to make the appointment for the day I showed up. But I was willing to admit that perhaps I had made a mistake and asked to be rebooked. The receptionist reminded me that Skin Beauty Bar has a 100% penalty for no shows. I asked if an exception could be made since I was a first-time customer, but was told that there was nothing they could do. It took several minutes of me calmly asking if there was a way for me to speak to the manager, who was not there, before the receptionist reluctantly verbally provided me with an email address. I immediately went out to my car and emailed the manager. It took her 6 days to respond. She was unwilling to waive the no show policy, because this is a small business. While I understand, and respect, the challenges faced by small businesses, I was surprised to receive this sort of treatment, particularly as a first-time customer. I sat with this for a close two weeks, because I did not want to cause a scene, but ultimately decided to send the manager a second email asking her to reconsider. I could understand being inflexible on a cancellation policy for someone who did not show up at all for an appointment, but I actually did show up on time for the appointment I thought I had made. I though that this should have been taken into consideration, particularly since I had the potential to be a regular customer moving forward. I never received a response to this second email. I'm disappointed by the treatment I received. Based on many of the other reviews on this page, it looks like this is a great company that provides very satisfactory spa services and I would have loved to support a black company. However, customer service is very important to me, particularly in this post-COVID world where many have forgotten what customer service means, and I will unfortunately not be returning. read more

I booked an appointment for a facial with Meka. When I arrived I was told my appointment was with someone else. My appointment started 30 minutes late and was in a closet. The light in the closet stopped working when I was halfway undressed. The woman doing the facial clearly had never given one before. She poked me in the eye repeatedly. There was supposed to be a massage included and all she did was light rub some lotion on my feet and hands, no neck or head massage whatsoever even though it was advertised. When I complained the front desk staff told me jt wasn't her fault or her problem and told me I should be embarrassed for complaining to her. She then called me a bitch and told me to leave. I will never go back, extremely bad service all around. Regarding your comment below: This isn't a great start, starting with it lie. 1) yes I did, I was rebooking a canceled appointment with you and you acknowledged that it was with you via a text message, see picture. 2) interesting comment, it makes me wonder if you have had complaints about this person in the past. I did not question the credentials of the person who gave me the facial just the lack of professionalism and ability to make this an enjoyable experience. 3) It looked like a closet to me, it was small and the esthetician could only stand on one side of the table. The lighting did not work properly, I had to find my way to the table in total darkness as the light stopped working as I was undressing. There was no ventilation, it is basically a closet you've retrofitted to be a service room. 4) The fact you've written are true but there's a lot more to it than that including ... asking to speak to you to discuss, challenging the service I was given and not getting a reasonable (never mind professional response) 5) If am surprised you would chose to do that without calling me. I urge you to reconsider your threats and consider professionalism and retraining. I also made a deposit on this service, so it is hardly as if I have paid nothing. I could also make threats about slander. Consider this... being called a bitch and told to get out in such circumstances is threatening behaviour and something I found extremely hostile and made me want to get out of there asap. I can't quite believe that upon hearing your front desk staff called me a bitch and told me my complaints weren't her problem that you did not immediately pick up the phone. I did an aromatherapy massage with Zeena. It was a groupon I found. The massage was excellent and service at the place was great!! The 4 stars is for the actual room and scenery. Could have been a bit warmer. I was chilly. The music was not "spa" music like you would expect. And you can hear everything else going on... other staff and patrons talking, moving around outside the massage room. I would definitely go back, just have to keep in mind the things you may expect during a massage may not be the same as other places. read more

Meka, I'm sorry that you didn't read my entire review. I've added an additional photo of what my eyebrows look like today, before I put makeup on. As you can see, *there is no trace of microblading on my brows*. This is why I'm not going to pay for a touch up. It didn't take. It's not about being frugal -- for one, you have different promotions every month, and as I've said before, my eyebrows require complete re-drawing, and there's no guarantee it would work the second time. I chose your spa for reasons that I listed in my first review, but if I were to ever do this again, I would spend *more money* to go to another spa that had more than one licensed microblading specialist, so that if I was unhappy with my results, there would be more accountability. read more

I highly recommend Skin Beauty Bar! They are located on Barracks Row (conveniently right next to District Doughnut). The space is inviting, always smells great and is very calm. The owner is friendly and is appreciative of your business. They offer amazing massages that will leave you feeling refreshed, and are moderately priced. You can definitely talk to them about what type of massage you are looking for. They offer waxing, and have a type of wax for sensitive skin which I like to use. They are gentle and professional. I trust getting my brows done here, and that takes some real trust. They also offer lots of different facials. They will recommend a new regiment and tips for you after working with your skin. I have my eye on getting the vacuum facial that they offer! Scheduling is online and easy, just make sure that you cancel 2 days in advance if needed. They don't seem to answer their phone, but their website works just fine. They also tend to have lots of promotional emails that they send out with 20-30% off select services. Got my teeth "whitened".... If you want to pay $85 to sit uncomfortably for 25 minutes and have your teeth look the same color and then have your gums hurt for 2 weeks after then I highly recommend this service. Sent an email expressing my concerns and they responded to expect 1-3 shades only. However, they advertise 2-7 shades. My teeth look the same. You be the judge. If you, like me, feel that this administration and pandemic have taken a toll on your mental and physical health, you need some self-care. This was my first service at Skin Beauty Bar. Meka helped me figure out what service I should get ahead of the visit via the website text messaging which was very convenient. I was able to make an appointment quickly and just a few days ahead. I got a full Microderm abrasion which also included facial cleansing, extraction, face massage, and massage of décolleté and hands. Service was professional, efficient, and most importantly, relaxing. (Massage was good - surprisingly pleasant even with Covid safety gloves- I'm sure it will be even better when we can all dispense with those.) Super cute atmosphere, and nice location. I came to get microblading and I love the results. Helena gave me a really nice shape without me even telling her much of anything. I would come back for another service. Only things that sucked was the lady upfront asked me if I wanted water to drink, and I said yes. She said sure hold on... and never came back with the water. Lol Also the numbing creme didn't work too great for my skin so I pretty much felt everything through my microblading experience. Def worth it! read more

My session was quick, painless, comfortable, and my esthetician Meka is a joy, and is very well skilled. As a black woman, I have come to expect to be burned, have skin ripped, and possibly bleed after a wax. No matter the salon (I've been taking chances with several places...) it's so common, I expect to leave with vag battle scars after a wax (definitely avoid Capital Waxing Salon!) I had an AWESOME massage with Lashon! I had a groupon here for a 60 minute swedish massage. It was a cold rainy day and the room where I had the massage was great - super warm and toasty. Lashon was great, the massage was really deep which I particularly like. But it was also really relaxing. The music that was playing was also really relaxing. Skin Beauty Bar has an extremely strict and unreasonable cancellation policy. It can actually be impossible to comply with the policy if appointments are booked last minute. I wound up being charged for two full priced services for rescheduling (not even cancelling) an appointment for 12 hours later. I went to Skin Beauty Bar because I got a Travelzoo deal for a Swedish Massage. In terms of aesthetics, the facility itself is nice enough. The room where I got the massage was very small. The masseuse didn't have enough room and was banging into things throughout the massage. Due to the lack of room, she had to move my arm in an awkward way to get around at one point, which was uncomfortable. Overall, the massage was fine- not the best and not the worst. When I finished, I went to the front desk to checkout and asked for the actual price of the massage so I knew how much to tip. I was shocked to hear that a 50 minute massage there is $90. For a $40-$50 Travelzoo deal, this was acceptable. i wouldn't pay full price there though. read more

I went to Skin Beauty Bar yesterday to get a lash lift. Within an hour of leaving the salon my eyelashes were a mess- fried, crimped, and crooked. See photos below. I reached out to the salon to ask what could be done and if someone could call me. They would only reply by text and the only advice they gave was to 'put water on them', which of course does not work. I've called around to other salons and have been much more responsive and helpful. The folks at Skin Beauty Bar and unskilled (at least with lash perming) and unprofessional. I'm embarrassed to be seen in public with these lashes. read more

ive gone for other services when they first opened and they were all pretty good (4star worthy) but i was emailed a promotion and after giving birth 3 months ago i thought a little mommy pampering would be awesome. i booked a facial with Meka (based on rave reviews here) but I left quite underwhelmed. We are all entitled to less than stellar days and since others have had such pleasurable experiences, im guessing maybe it was an off day. But I immediately got the feeling like I was imposing. I was barely greeted, wasnt asked anything about my skin care regiment and goals for the vacuum facial. i wasnt told about the process or products, she just went to work. i asked a few questions but got short replies and when extracting, I started bleeding in 2 spots, one that scabbed up for a few days. Nothing was said. When it was over, i was just told to get dressed and meet by the register. The receptionist was actually really nice. I was finally offered a cup of water as I was leaving.
