I was very clear about my experience and anxiety, but needed the change and confidence with my stylist. My experience with Melanie was beyond what I expected. She took the time to understand my hair journey, my concerns and what makes me uncomfortable. She showed me photos and explained her process BEFORE AND DURING the service. Lucinda washed my hair and provided a scalp massage that was very needed and appreciated. These ladies took time to make me a coffee, provide cookies and make me feel extremely comfortable. Addressed my summer heels, and used some lovely scrub and lotion on my legs, ankles, heels and feet. Jasmine had a lovely, quiet energy about her and is very respectful in terms of space and comfort. I was very impressed by the Shellac Manicure service provided by Penny today, and the overall experience. The pink/black theme of the salon is quite cute, and they offer a broad range of services from mani/pedis, to waxing, tinting, massages, facials, and even parties! The only reason that I did not give it a 5/5 is that I experienced the dreaded shellac 'shrinking.' Although the shellac manicure turned out well, several of my nails experienced the shrinking phenomenon where the edges fade out, and it looks like the manicure has chipped (right after application). It hasn't even been 12 hours since application, and I'm dreading that it won't last past a week.... That being said, I would definitely return to the salon again!

Since I wasn't picky about who cut my hair, I'd book an appointment with whoever was available on the day and time that was convenient for me, and I have to say that I got a good, pro cut no matter which girl did it.

It's my biggest pet peeve when you go somewhere that advertises a shellac manicure and they use gel-ish polish.... Not the same! I don't get my nails done on a regular basis but every time I do, I go there. It might be a little more than you're used to spending but just give them a try once and you will see why. They have all the colours and additives and can do amazing techniques to make your nails look spectacular. I have heard horror stories about shellac removal and normally opt for regular polish but I was very happy with the service here. I couldn't remember what brand of shellac I had on (apparently some brands are easier to remove than others) so it took about 30 minutes, which apparently is longer than usual. But, that's because she didn't just scrape it off and ruin my nails. The woman who helped me took her time and was very patient and gentle. I would definitely go back for a regular manicure because of the good service. The prices are very reasonable for a downtown spa too.

I ended up losing a significant amount of length because of the damage, and my hair is still very dry and compromised. The situation was distressing enough that I'm currently exploring my options to address the damage and the cost of repairing it. I expected a much higher level of care and attention during a chemical service. I'm sharing this so other clients are aware and so the salon understands how serious the outcome was for me.

Elena (I'm sorry if I got this wrong, I am terrible with names!) was a lot of fun to talk to, as well; it seems the art of conversation is something a lot of stylists have lost, but not her. I had gone to another cheaper nail salon and mentioned my ankle and they just ignored it entirely. The ladies at Chic are professional and accommodating. They take a lot of care to make sure you're comfortable and they do a great job. I haven't had hair services here, I mainly have gone for the Aveda Mani/Pedis, they are AMAZING (Lindsay & Meghan are awesome!), I've done the express mani/pedi as well, also great. I've had my brows waxed and a number of elemental facials, all fantastic experiences. The only thing I would say negatively, is that when you're in the back room for a facial, you can hear a lot going on in the salon, so it's not super 'peaceful', but it's still great! I would recommend this salon and spa (and have) to all my family and friends. (I do believe they accept walk-ins, but I always book in advance) - little tip - if you're interested in a Mani/Pedi go to the "Packages" tab on the website and book a "Basics" package, it's an extra couple bucks, but you get an eyebrow wax included. **Update** I have since had my hair styled here for my brothers wedding, they did a great job! No one is so busy that it takes hours or days to return a phone call for any reason; it is simply inconsiderate and aarogant. They claim to provide "quality service" which apparently does not apply to responding to client phone calls. When calling, a pre recorded message greets you with their hours and a promise to return the call "within a few minutes" but without response which we find likely to be a good indication of what to expect in future!
