I'm scared I'm gonna undersell how much we love Skipolini's. My friends flew in from Ohio and Pennsylvania and the the ONLY thing they wanted to do on their 2 day stay was drive an hour from Tracy to get Skip Dip and Pizza. I take them every time they come in and it's pretty much the only thing they ask about. lol. Beyond grateful that we were treated to the recipe this time too. Yay for Skip's! As I've mentioned, I'm sadly off dairy, and I miss good pizza as a result. Skipolini's offers rice-based non-dairy cheese, and it's about the best vegan cheese I've tasted. It's very creamy, which went well with the garlic sauce. Dear Hubby and I shared the white sauce pizza topped with plentiful amounts of mild Italian sausage, mushrooms, and olives. We were supposed to have some fresh tomatoes, also, but I asked for that at the end, and it may not have made it into the computer. We were there for my high school class reunion - the first night, which was a casual hang-out event. As Old Town Clayton has changed in the many decades since I was last there, Skipolini's has also altered their overflow configuration. I didn't realize that there was a large pavilion out back with dozens of picnic tables, covered by open-sided tents. They also have an extended seating area to the far side with big comfy couches as a place to lounge and visit. The pizza arrived in due course. I felt sorry for the young servers - they had to walk the pizzas around the entire outside area calling out the name of the person who'd ordered. They must get hoarse at the end of their shift! Our group was hard to be heard over, too. About 60+ people reuniting who hadn't seen each other in a long time! Considering that it was a big group event, Skip's managed it very well. From ordering, through delivery of the warm 'za, to enjoying the delicious flavors and textures, to packing up leftovers, it all went smoothly. Too bad they are so far away! read more

This review is not about the food. The food at these chains has always been good. If you have dietary needs qualifying under ADA you may want to read on. This review was about the experience with service and accommodating a customer with a metabolic condition which requires a special and very specific diet. We have visited this place MANY times over the years and have hosted birthday celebrations, playdates, family dinners and we have never had an issue, ever. Tonight was different. We came for a sport dinner awards (for my daughter). My son has a medical condition that requires medical/special food as he cannot eat the pizza there. While the team had ordered pizzas we intended to fully order pizzas/'salads/drinks for our family. We didn't get the chance because as soon as my son walked in with a bag of food and a drink the manager, Alfredo approached us and said he couldn't have the drink so we said fine but that he needed the food as he couldn't eat the pizza due to dietary needs. He agreed to let the food be and we thought we could continue with our evening. I headed inside to get in line to order food for the rest of the family.My husband was in the patio where he was approached by a second employee who very rudely told him we couldn't have the food there to which my husband replied it was for a metabolic condition and that the manager had already said it was fine but this employee by the name of Andrew (he was the assistant manager) insisted the food couldn't be there and that if it was a condition we needed to show proof. My husband explained once again and told him he was missing my daughter's award dinner because this person was being adamant he needed proof of why my son needed this different food. Talk about embarrassing for a teenager and for us to have to keep justifying why he needed this different food. My husband began to head out with the food and filled me in on what had transpired in the patio. I found my son's medical letter explaining his condition and at this point I was extremely upset and headed inside to speak to both the manager and Andrew. I showed the manager the letter to which he nodded. Andrew was extremely rude and I asked him why he was being rude he said I was being "combative" and I said no, I am upset and you're in the food business of customer service. I told him that his delivery was really rude and unacceptable. Alfredo the store manager asked to talk to me and he was very apologetic for Andrew's delivery and that we were so upset about something that truly was so simple. While I appreciate the store manager trying his best to make it better, the damage was done. There was no grace shown from this establishment when it came to my son's metabolic condition/needs. A metabolic condition falls under ADA and there is a whole clause for restaurants needing to make modifications to policies for people who qualify under these circumstances to which by the way we are NOT obligated to provide proof of it at any point so Andrew asking for proof is clearly a VIOLATION OF ADA. We will never consider these restaurants ever in the future. We didn't eat dinner, my son was so upset he didn't eat his food plus the mental anguish this interaction caused and Andrew's behavior was truly disgusting. Like I told the manager, this needs to be a learning lesson for them, not everyone is trying to take advantage of your "no outside food' policies. There are exceptions to the rule and you should handle them with grace, courtesy and thoughtfulness. What a horrible night/experience.We felt harassed. read more

Walt from Walt's Adventures here in Clayton, California and I'm at Skipolinis pizzeria. This restaurant is unlike any other pizza destination you have, most likely, encountered. Granted, they have the same enmities like indoor and covered heating outdoor seating like their competitors. What makes them unique is their customer service for they treat customers as if they themselves were the owners. We were immediately greeted, ordered two small sized pizzas and then was encouraged to purchase a refillable than individual drinks for the better deal. Not more than 20 minutes later, not our numbers but names were called the waitress who personally brought us our meals. Their pizzas were probably the finest crafted that I had the pleasure of consuming. If you want to visit a fine family restaurant with awesome pizzas, go to Clayton. read more

Skipolini's in Clayton is a long-standing favorite. There is plenty of outdoor seating that's nice to enjoy on a summer night. The classic salad is so good. Lots of outdoor seating (and a little indoor seating too), service was a bit slow (it took quite a while to get our pizza even though it was fairly empty). The pizza, though, was awesome! Lots of fresh & flavorful toppings with a thick, fluffy crust (just the way I like it). Decent beer & wine & sangria selection at the outdoor bar. Our appetizer arrived AFTER our pizza did. I somehow expected better table service even though you have to pay first at the counter. I had to go inside to get a refill of soda, and again to ask for more ranch after they forgot to bring it. (I tipped 20% when I paid at the counter since it was one of the suggested tip amounts, but regretted it since all they do is bring the food to your table. That's it.) Came on here given the exceptional customer experience we had thanks to manager Zach and other staff member Maya. They truly went above and to accommodate dietary needs, answer questions, and handle special requests with care. I was dining with someone who has multiple allergies, including gluten, and Zach was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and gracious throughout. I really like Skipolini's! I've been to the WC location, Concord location, and now finally Clayton! The food is really consistent across all locations. I love the house salad, I'm a huge fan of beets in a salad! The are NOT stingy with their toppings (on salads and pizzas). My friend is KETO, so she just ate the toppings off of the crust and it seemed pretty satisfying. I will say Skip's is a little on the pricy side.... And the pizza is best when it's hot and fresh, not nearly as good the second day (IMO). read more

You couldn't pick up a single slice (even with two hands) without it drooping and losing toppings left and right. It was so bad it ruined the rest for me. I've been here several times over the years and had really high expectations from previous experiences but was so let down. I really hope this was a one off. Ah, my hometown pizza place. We order from Skip's when my wife needs a break from her usual Pizza Wednesday baking. The pies themselves are consistently top notch. Good bake (albeit not wood fired), good ingredients and combinations. The only downside to Skip's pizza is the price. You'll easily pay north of $35 for a large pie. Their salad is cold iceberg lettuce; beets; garbanzo beans and small croutons. Nothing fancy, cold and great with their Ranch. We had their small onion, mushroom and sausage pizza. They staff brought out two soups when we ordered only one and then stated that we ordered two. Ok we are telling you we didn't. They didn't offer to refund the soup but offered to put it in a Togo container. Almost forgot about the ice tea. It tasted like tea flavored tap water. Best way I can explain it. Would I go back? Skipolini's Pizza is absolutely delicious! My favorite part about their pizza is the crust! It's a nice chewy but soft crust! The edge gets nice and fluffy with a great chew while the crust supporting the toppings is thin and chewy. I am not a huge red sauce fan but if you are your in luck! They put a lot of it on each pie! I just order light sauce and it's perfect for me! My go to toppings are just plain cheese or pepperoni. I have given their vegetable pizza a try a few times and it's just not their strong suite. It's ok though! We all have weaknesses. And if your like me then we need to talk about the ranch. Yes the ranch gets it's own paragraph. It's that important. Skips makes amazing ranch!
