Such a fun spot! The service at Skip's was awesome super friendly and fast. I loved being able to pick songs on TouchTunes and hang out with good vibes all around. The local artwork of people's pets on the walls was such a cool touch and really added to the cozy, laid-back feel. They do not serve food but they do offer snacks. Definitely one of those local spots that just feels good to be in. I'll for sure be back next time I'm in Dunedin. read more

It's a dive bar in Dunedin. Love the murals (outside AND inside) of the dogs and cats on the walls. Super cool. Bartender Patrick was excellent. Quick service and witty/engaging to talk to...the way a slinger should be. Wish the place has a little better selection, and a liquor license as there's just not a whole lot going on inside. This is my new favorite place in Dunedin. We're visitors from St. Louis, so this bar made us feel right at home. Totally divey, cash only, dark, eclectic decor, everything dive bar. $2 PBR in a bottle! They have a jukebox that you have to put real money in (4 songs for $1). Skip's is an unapologetic, old school dive bar on Main Street in Dunedin. Cheap beer in a paper bag? Check. Old school jukebox box that takes quarters? Check. Snarky/funny/sarcastic/friendly bartenders? Check, check, check. And they even have a Kiss pinball machine. If this is your vibe, you'll definitely love and appreciate Skip's. Cash only bar, with decently priced drinks. The menu is written on poster board and the canned drinks are kept in coolers. They are a minimalist bar, which was great. They do have indoor seating, but when it's nice out they have a great outside seating area. My daughter could run around outside while my husband and I could sit and enjoy a few drinks. High Noons ran about $6, while most beers were between $4-$6. There was a server walking around asking if she could get you anything, but you could go to the bar to get a drink. read more

Walked in and ordered two beers. Surly bartender brought them. We reach for a credit card and she tells us that it is cash only. We say we don't have enough cash. She informs us there is an ATM behind us. Yah also we didn't bring debit, and even if we did we aren't willing to pay the $4 service fee just bc she didn't inform us prior to bringing the drinks that it cash only. We somehow managed to find the $7, but biotch didn't get a tip. Literally ten mins later a couple comes in, orders drinks, is brought drinks, then also does not have cash. They are also informed that there is an ATM behind them. Couple says they aren't paying the service fee, apologies, and leaves. Bartender proceeds to badmouth the people who left. Super classy. So yah apparently this is clearly a recurring issue. People in this day in age expect to pay with a card unless informed otherwise before receiving their drinks. We consulted with a neighboring bar and asked them if establishments get kickbacks on ATM fees. They said they sure do. So yah. Guess this place wants to make money off you by guilting you into paying for ATM fees if you don't have cash when they bring you the drinks you ordered. I can't imagine this business model works out in this day and age...most people feel, and rightly so, that if they aren't informed of cash only at ordering that they are justified to walk out...leaving the bar with lots of poured and untouched beverages. Lol good luck with that! read more

Cash only! How places survive dealing with cash only is beyond me. Luckily, when we rolled thru last night, we just happened to have a Jackson on us, Otherwise, they would have lost business. Ain't no Yuengling or Bud Light worth walking to an ATM and paying a fee for. On Wednesdays, if your sport a Skip's shirt, you get discounts. They also sell cigarettes, if you're into cancer sticks. But to be quite honest, there ain't much here. It's a bar with maybe 7 taps, no food or pool table. In fact, unless you've got a dog to chill with on the patio, it's pretty bland. I like Patrick, the bartender, and he's probably this place's saving grace. read more

Low ceiling'd dive bar with dollar bills stapled here and there. It kind of reminds me of a dive you would have expected to find in Key West, circa 1986. As noted by the prior reviewer Melissa A., the address listed on Yelp is dead wrong - if you go looking around Clearwater for this place, you're going to be looking for a long time. The jukebox is certainly crappy, and the beer is pedestrian - but it does go down well when you find yourself in the middle of Dunedin on a humid 96-degree afternoon. But back to the crappy jukebox. It's a tradition that Yelp Miami dominates dive bar jukeboxes. Here, though, there was just minor domination going on, in part because the box kept making us punch in songs we didn't intend. Especially me, I mistakenly queued up some tunes you'd NEVER expect out of me. 2 of my 4 selections were right, the others were some Southern roadhouse garbage and freakin' Train. I also got a chuckle out of the "Cougar Darts" dart machines.....which would explain the business photo I'm adding. read more

I enjoy a good dive bar but they pour beer before mentioning that's it's cash only. Then it's a 3.50 charge to use their sketchy atm? Too bad. Came here 18 years ago, moved back and took up a bar stool again. This is a true dive bar, cash only, beer only. They have wine...... Is the staff surly ? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... we LOVE this place. We walked in on a whim as we were waiting for friends before our dinner. There is outdoor seating which people tended to gather at. It was a nice night but we wanted to check out the inside. It is dark and clean, 2 nice tv's above the bar. Lots of seating at the bar. Semi comfortable stools. Bartender greeted us quickly and poured our beer. She was friendly and delivered our drinks quickly. As we sipped our beer we looked around. An eclectic bunch of decor, it is not sure what it is trying to be, but this place has more character than the 'irish' place down the way. Well done Skips, without trying even! The one downer was no bag hooks under the bar. I don't like setting my bag on the floor and I don't like setting it on another chair in case a patron comes in and wants to have a seat. Minor negative and a quick fix. They have a jukebox which has an old school list of songs. Cheap (25 cents per song). Unfortunately our friends arrived early and they were 'starving' so we had to leave to eat. We would have rather of had another beer and enjoyed our music for a bit. They asked us 'why are you sitting inside. It is nice out, we would rather be out there." Ok, well, fair enough but this place has character and all of the rif raf is out there. There were minimal seats open and there were several dogs sitting in the way of getting to those empty seats. Obviously, dog friendly. LOVE the dogs but sometimes the owners of said dogs make it impossible to enjoy outdoor seating. Not the bars fault. They have t-shirts for sale, $15 and $20 for a long sleeve. Full bar. Clean. Skip's is my FAVORITE Dunedin "dive" bar...and when I say "dive" I mean it in the best way possible. BTW: We are a pitcher-and-a-half in so my review may be a bit convoluted...but this is my honest opinion ....and yes, we're taking Uber home. Skip's is wonderfully original and rough-around-the-edges. The staff and owner are always very welcoming, and the prices are reasonable. This is real Dunedin folks...not the remodeled, tourist-targeted simulacrum of Dunedin that is popping up all over. At Skip's you will get a genuine feel for Dunedin's Main Street...and, for no apparent reason at all, dragon claws trying to escape an outdoor store room door (see the pic I posted). There are often several pooches on the outdoor patio... if you don't like dogs, don't bother coming here, because people who don't like dogs are awful. Inside there's a delightful or disturbing (depending on your taste and expectations) selection of juke box music. i.e.: Violent Femmes, Zeppelin, Clarence Carter, CCR... see what I mean? Skip's is "jolie laide"...that's French for "ugly-pretty." The men's restroom is, at best, a place to pee. I've never been inside the the women's room so I can't comment on that. They only take cash (fight the power Skip!) We tend to travel to historic and vaguely literary destinations...and Skip's reminds me of the kind of place famous authors hang out while drinking themselves into oblivion...in a artistically significant way of course. When me and my bf go we always see the same bartender, he always provides great service. This is a place to hang out and drink with friends, you are allowed to smoke inside so if that bothers you then the patio is the place to be. The have plenty of tables to accommodate large group of friends. The beers are very cheap, and they do have their fair selection of beers. It is CASH only so be prepared before you go. read more
