I do not recommend this club ! I had the worst experience ever! You go for tryout, pay for it, drive almost 1h, the kids play for 2h with very little observation from the team members ! Then they print papers, put in the wall and let the teenagers try to find their names to see if they made the team or not ! Imagine ... some are celebrating, some are crying ! Yes ! Mine didn't make it and I understand , she has not been playing lately ! No , I don't understand... go find your name and deal with your emotions with no feedback, no conversation ! Bad news could be delivered with a more professionalism and kids support ! The experience was awful, she cried all night long, because she also tried for a lower lever right after ... another 2 h and the same experience ! I am disappointed with the treatment not the result ! So, I ask you to consider it when thinking about getting your child there. read more

If your child is a 1st year player, then you will be much better off going somewhere else for development and playing experience. Three kids on our 14u boy's team played less than 10% of the actual game times based on unexplained "coaches discretion". Facebook videos show it was not based on talent or effort, but to develop only certain younger players that would be back next season. We feel the only reason they took these three was for the money. There were no player evaluations or direction to the kids on how to get more playing time. Instead, these kids were treated very poorly by the coach who repeatedly tore down their confidence and made them feel like they didn't belong on the team. There are better programs for beginner players if your kid really wants to PLAY! read more

Sky High was a home to my girls during high school and even today as they come home to visit. Both of my girls played in a top 25 ranked NCAA program. They were ready for competition when they left Sky High both starting their freshman year in college. Today they have made volleyball a career. my oldest 26 is a director of operations for UCF a D1 school and my youngest 24 just returned from playing Professionally in Greece. Very disappointed in Sky High Tryouts in Libertyville. Appeared there was very little observation going on. Second half of tryouts were just scrimmage matches. Noticed nobody observing with clipboards or taking notes. The end result noticed many players with low skills chosen over more skilled qualified players. Amazing how they could qualify players without taking notes. There appears to be no specific basis on how they select players. It's definitely not based on skill. Wish I had spoken to Management but I was too angry. read more

Good coaches and excellent philosophical approach to volleyball. My daughter excelled in their program.

Steve Bonnem and Sky High Volleyball Club is the best thing that happened to my daughter, Emelyn (setter committed to Baylor). Steve was the perfect combination of giving her the confidence she needed and challenging her to be better. My only regret is that we didn't join Sky High sooner. Previous to Sky High, my daughter had been involved in two of the largest and well-known clubs in the Chicago area. Between the politics, promises made and not kept, and mentally and emotionally abusive coaches, she had almost given up. When I contacted Scott Harris, Emelyn and I were very apprehensive to go to another club after our multiple terrible experiences, but we had heard nothing but positive things about the players and coaches at Sky High. The club gave us the faith to believe in the process again! Steve was absolutely amazing as a coach. He coaches in real-time, and combines high expectations with a positive atmosphere for the players. There was no drama on the team with the girls, and he would have never put up with it. The two groups of players my daughter played with were by far the nicest, sweetest, hard-working and motivated girls my daughter has ever played with.... A huge thank you to Sky High, Scott Harris and Steve Bonnem because Emelyn would have never committed to Baylor University if it wasn't for you! read more

Terrible club DO NOT RECOMMEND, i played on a team here and got treated like shit. I got less than 10% of playtime on a 14U team and 12 year olds got nearly 50% for the libero and 100% for this Outside Hitter, later figured out his family was affiliated with the program for a long time. Directors are terrible and protect the coaches even thought their in the wrong. I got benched for the tournament and many other games because i had to miss practice because of Lacrosse games, which were part of the CONTRACT and other players who were in sports and missed practice were rewarded with 100% playtime. Look elsewhere if your kid wants to get good at volleyball and especially if they want to play. read more

Not only did I play for Sky High in the past and love it, I brought my daughter here to the Volley school. The drills they are teaching them at this age and how quickly the kids catch on amazes me. Fantastic organization and you learn so much that you take with you throughout your life. I exercise regularly because of my training through Sky High. It became a way of life that got me through so many things; including breast cancer. I am a fighter. You learn that if you work hard great things are possible. The fact that 97% of athletes secure college scholarships speaks for itself. Best program around here and we are fortunate to be second generation Sky High! read more

If it was possible to give negative stars, I would. Never in my entire adult life have I spent so much money and been so poorly treated. Yes your child will get to practice and play a lot of volleyball. Yes, his or her skills will probably improve. But it is SO all about the money for the crazy folks that own this place. They don't bother to make even the slightest effort to be nice, make things easy or convenient. Certainly no 'Thank you for choosing us'- God forbid! Here is a summary of my most recent experience with Sky High in Crystal Lake: I registered my daughter online to try-out for the "J. O." (junior olympic ) team. I use the words try out, although as far as I know everyone made the team. In fact, just in my daughters age group, there are FIVE JO teams. Very selective and elite, right? Immediately following the notice that my girl "made the team", parents were told in no uncertain terms that we needed to buy our uniforms, practice jerseys and shoes right then. So I seriously spent $400 on that and another $400 as a deposit for my daughters spot on the team. Then I review all the paperwork I was handed and realize there is a mandatory (seriously?) parents meeting. I jam this into my schedule between my sons football practice and my other kids parents night at school. When I arrive I am asked if I completed the online registration, per the Info that was emailed to me earlier TODAY. As a matter of fact I didn't even realize they had emailed me because I have a life and I work and I actually (gasp!) have other kids involved in other activities. So even though the mandatory meeting is now happening, I am told I should sit down at one of their computers and "complete" my daughters registration, to guarantee "her spot" on the team. I do this and realize all they really want is the remaining balance of the first installment payment. I then go to the mandatory meeting, where of course there are not enough seats for all the parents, and I stand in the doorway and can't hear a word the speaker is saying, because they can't even bother to use a microphone. At that point I walked away, thinking I'd just complete the paperwork and leave it, and I can't even do that because it all requires my signature and my daughters signature, despite the fact that she is 13 years old and I really don't think her signature is legally binding yet. So I left. After this season, we will go somewhere else. read more

Bathrooms are extremely dirty and stalls are not working. Unacceptable conditions during an all day tournament. No soap, either.

While I have had great experiences with the coaches at Sky High, it is the owner Scott that makes this a club I would never want to be associated with again. I have never met a more arrogant, in it only for the money, individual in my entire life. I have 5 children, all of which are multiple sport athletes that play on club teams - and I have never experienced someone less interested in his clients than him. Multiple experiences with him in which his narcissism made it pointless to try and get him to appreciate my concerns, but the straw that broke the camel's back was when my daughter was forced to clean the bathrooms at his Libertyville facility (yes, despite the outrageous club fees, your daughter is also required to work concessions at a tournament and clean bathrooms - on a date which is dictated to them, without any flexibility). When I picked my daughter up from her mandatory assignment she told me she had to clean out the feminine product receptacles in the women's washroom. When I sent an email to Scott he told me that I was mistaken, and that my daughter was not instructed to clean the receptacles. So once he called my daughter a liar I requested the names of all adults in charge of the facility that day and what type of training was given to the athletes in terms of "universal precautions" to protect themselves from potentially infectious bodily fluids. This was information I wanted for when I filed a complaint to the Lake Country Health Department. It was not until then that Scott wanted to accept responsibility for what had occurred. This is a cutthroat club that has no loyalty to players what so ever ! Our friends had a daughter who played one year and she was a very good athlete and consistent player . This girl tried out for the following season and was cut from both tryouts . After spending $$$$ on their jerseys and required warm-up attire they just cut her . Our daughter played for this crappy club for 2 seasons and led the team in kills, digs and probably assists and was not invited back . They are not loyal to girls who play here and should be more focused on keeping teams together and working on their skills ! I would research other clubs and read reviews before committing to this poorly run organization, there are better options than this place ! read more

It's very important to see things for yourself. I'm at the facility and there are nets up between certain courts. There are at least 8 volleyball courts inside where I'm sitting. They have two large ceiling fans and it's quite comfortable inside. There are enough places to sit and a food court. This is a nice facility for a parent who brings their child(children) volleyball matches. read more

This is my first Yelp review I have ever written. I felt compelled after the negative comments that I have read about Sky High Volleyball Club. My daughter played for a regional team last year and I was completely satisfied with the coaches and the level of high skilled training she received. Their philosophy does not include any form of punishment or degradation, in fact it is the complete opposite. I found her coach extremely positive and knowledgeable. My daughter had a great experience and my younger one can't wait to start. read more

Beware- staff is extremely rude ... my 11 year old daughter was eating food (yes it was not from there & I do understand that it is against the rules) but every table around us was eating food from home as well but the staff member decided to just pick my 11 year old out & asked her if she could read & said it twice to her... who talks to a child like that. Then proceeded to make her throw out her dinner. We had already spent $$ on food there earlier. I have no problem if he would have asked her nicely but that was not the case he tried demeaning her. Also if your going to in-force a rule then make sure it's across the board. Maybe they should spend less time bullying a child & more time on their filthy bathrooms. I'd be hesitant to send my daughter there for lessons if that's the way the staff talks to children. read more

The tryouts at Sky High Libertyville need a little tweaking. They have girls packed on several courts. Have 3 or 4 coaches watching 60 players in two hours. They miss out on a lot of talent from what I've seen. All 60 players run to ONE sheet of paper to see if they make it. If they didn't every single player and parent knows the ones sad and walking out the door haven't. They sure are quick to charge $500 and player must commit that night. Only club to do so that's I've seen. They need to observe other club procedures. read more

TAKE YOUR DAUGHTER AND RUN VERY FAR! I as well would give a negative mark if possible. If your child makes the black or red team then your on the chosen team the rest are thrown together with the leftover players. When they can't fill the JO teams they beg parents from the Regional teams to fill open spots and they are not even the position your daughter plays. Its all about the $$$ with Sky High we have been with them 3 years and each year we were told we would get an experienced coach the last 2 years they were young men who were awful and the last year the team Fell apart where they could not even play a game. read more

I am so glad we picked Sky High Volleyball for our daughters. The atmosphere is fun for the girls. The coaches train the girls at a high level. We have been with the club now for a few years and I am impressed with how well they have handled the crazy time we are in. No one is perfect, specially when dealing with a new situation, but I feel that Sky High has done a great job trying to get the girls in the gym even with all the state restrictions. The Crystal Lake facility is always clean and tidy. They clean between each practice and have in place a pick up and drop off routine to help the flow of the girls coming and going. As a whole Sky High really is a great volleyball club. read more

We have a few seasons under our belt (3) with a variety of coaches and are very happy with the expertise of the coaching staff -- she has improved her game tremendously ! My experience was brief regarding tryouts and negative enough that you are reading this review. Normally I don't write negative reviews, but because I'm still dealing with their greed, I'm making the effort. First, this is not a review spurned by a bad tryout for my daughter. Her experience was neutral and she did make the team. However we declined the offer because it just felt disconnected to her as a new player and me as a new parent. They require a $545.00 deposit just to try out. If you don't make the team or if your decline (you have decide before you leave the property) then they will refund the $500.00. My kids have been playing competitive sports for years and I have never had this type of decide now pressure. If we did not accept at that moment then we would have to try out again in a make up tryout. No 24 hours to think about it, nothing. I could go on about how rude they were through out the night (except for the wonderful woman working the check in - she was great). Everyone else just wanted the money and didn't care about the kids or parents. If we accepted, it was another $200 in uniforms that had to be purchased that night. That $545.00 doesn't go towards any of that in the first 3 hours of dealing with the club. We declined and the only response from the owner was, "OK". No questions to understand why. He didn't need the numbers because we were the only ones not going for the pressure sale. That leads me to this review. We declined and they charged my card that night for $545.00. 3 days later, no refund, no pending refund and no one answering the phone and I'm still waiting for anyone to call me back. The BBB is my next step if Skyhigh chooses to ignore me. Although, it does make me feel better about not going with the club and subjecting my daughter to it. We were on the fence and little compassion/empathy/understanding from Skyhigh or even a discussion about our decision and we would have probably joined. However, my initial experience gave me enough concern to stay away, so I trusted my gut. Glad we did, just hope that I get my $500.00 back. read more

My 13 year old was just in their volley kids. Horrible. The man in charge wasn't around after the first few classes, nor his daughter. The class was supposed to have 1 hour of instruction followed by 1/2 hour of scrimmage play. That never happened. They had about 5 minutes of "scrimmage play" a few times without even letting the kids serve! They actually did little kid games, sitting on the floor, which my kid did in like 2nd grade. BORING!! They crammed way too many kids in. GREEDY!! I called the director and left my number twice, but he doesn't care to call back. The kids running the program said the bosses didn't call them back either. Some kids never got their t-shirt. NON-CARING!! No improvement for my daughter nor any of the half dozen classmates we spoke with. No desire to come back and maybe lost interest in the sport as well. read more

Coaches are not created equal here - I was the 'stupid' one for even talking to management about the coach issues. I was treated like I had nothing better to do with my time in an actual face to face meeting. Maybe if I sent my husband in, he would have been treated with more respect. read more

Tight courts, not enough seating. No handicap seating, don't know how they get away with this. No nets between the courts, so balls are everywhere, tons of wasted plays because other matches balls are flying in your court. I hope we never have to come back! read more
