The company also did NOT notify us they would sticking a huge company sign in our front yard and left a decent sized hole in our grass. Not even worth the one star.

Unfortunately they made a couple of errors. They spilled bitumen on to a deck and tried to cover it up with boards but, worse than that, they left the job with a large pooling area, where water collected and would not drain. Within two days I brought this to their attention. Two different inspectors turned up over the next six weeks, and both said the problem was real; it had been caused by the way they had done the work; it was something that had happened before but had not warned me of this prospect, and they would go back to HQ and discuss it. Weeks past. I received three subsequent telephone calls from nice people, but gradually it became clear that they had no intention of doing anything about it, despite acknowledging they had caused the problem. I was asked to pay more ($900, kindly discounted from $1800!) for the repair. They would not compensate me so that I could do the work myself, and threatened that my warranty would be voided if I did any work myself. As yet I do not have the building inspector sign-off, because the roof won't drain, and the deck is not useable. Penfolds appeared to engage in a scam, in which they used their size and much heralded guarantee mechanism to fend off legitimate complaints and gouge more money out of helpless customers. They are big and 'professional', but believe nothing of what they say of their guarantee. They use their size to put you off, escape their liability and take as much money as they can from you.

A week after the utility company gave the final okay, there has been zero contact from Banner. Not a "how are things going?" nor a "thanks for working with us" or even an attempt to sell us on their maintenance plan. :) Today, the final payment request arrived, from a no reply email no less. Maybe I asked too many questions or it was the fact that I had an issue with the payment schedule not being made clear?

We compared Ecotech's bids to those of three other companies, and Ecotech won on total capacity, price per watt, and being easy to deal with. The install crew were great to have around, they kept us apprised of their progress, always completing each step on time. The permitting process was 100% taken care of by Ecotech, as was contacting PSE to have our system added, our net metering agreement, and having our meter swapped out. There are some sketchy practices in the solar industry, from solar loans with massive fees, to high pressure sales tactics. Ecotech avoids all of these. No pressure, no crazy loan schemes. At the end of the day, we have an amazing system that will provide 100% of our power for years to come. The quote from Penfolds was on the higher side of the average, but we went with them because the quote was detailed and they were realistic about the unknowns (especially the carpentry work, since most of the issues were covered up and couldn't be assessed until the roof came off). The carpentry team was very thorough, communicative, and ended up getting the work done for far less than they originally told me it would cost. The roofing team was also excellent - polite and tidy, with good attention to detail. Everything was done on or ahead of schedule, and ended up being completed for *less* than the quoted price.
