Since things were complicated again for the 2024 tax year I let them prepare my taxes again. I brought everything that I had in March. Before April 15th I called to see if I needed to do anything. I was told I didn't because they had filed an extension for me. Many calls to their office over the summer to find out the status of my return brought replies of "This is complicated. We'll have everything double checked and it should be done next week". Of course it wasn't. Imagine my surprise when I was emailed an invoice for payment that was due that same day. I didn't get my return until later that afternoon. And imagine my surprise again when I discovered that I was going to have to pay a "Failure to Pay Penalty" and "Interest" because I didn't pay the taxes before April 15th! Never once did they tell me that I had to do that! More phone calls weren't at all productive so I just gave up. Paid the bill to them and mailed a check to the IRS. I knew I was going to have to pay something but having to pay the penalty and interest wouldn't have been necessary if they had just communicated that. I'll be finding someone else to do my taxes next year!
