I walked all throughout the store calling "hello, anyone here" then waited at the counter for a couple of minutes. No one was in the store, so I left empty handed. As I was getting into my car, the female sitting and smoking next to the door got up and went inside! Hard to believe, but true. I used to be a smoker so I know how important a "smoke break" is, but to ignore a paying customer? Bad news. Stopped in today, 7/9, to see if the store was ready to sell me some wine. I asked the female who had just walked in from her smoke break if she was the same person who was working Wednesday and she wasn't sure. She shrugged and said "maybe". The guy working with her couldn't care less. Not a problem for me, I'll just go to one of the many places who want to sell me some wine - including grocery stores now. I don't know if the owner of the store cares that he lost a long time, cash paying customer, but, oh, well. . . . .

Definitely makes one feel awkward when you get into hearing "my mom stole my kids" and "I have to pay her child support now" and "the only lawyer that is willing to help me wants 6K- how am I supposed to pay that when I'm paying $300+ a month in child support?" While I sympathize, I don't really think it's entirely appropriate to unload on your customers. Even if it's a liquor store. Kinda felt like a deer in the headlights- didn't know how to respond. Perhaps keep the reaaalll personal stuff to your friends and fam, sis?

But charging an extra 2% for credit sales when you already have that built into your price is crazy. Will have to start looking for a less costly place, a shame after 20 years. They are hard-working people working long hours, who do try to please, including doing some special orders of obscure items for me.The wife likes shopping there cuz it's close to our home, it's small and "warm". Oh, and the fact that they are lax on "mask mandates"- like most places in Canon City- is a +BIG PLUS+ in their favor in OUR book... For some reason YELP has me listed as San Francisco, when in fact I'm 1250 miles from the City On The Bay- in Canon City, where the business I'm reviewing is located! Go figger.

American Liquor has happily begun stocking a few unusual items I'd only been able to find at Jewetts, and at very comparable prices, so we can "run down to the liquor store" much more easily than schlepping down Hwy. 50 (and dealing with the the four painfully long stoplights along the way). American Liquor also stocks a very good selection of the darker beers we prefer and cannot find in the grocery stores that cater to IPA-obsessed beer drinkers. We love American Liquor!
