Filthy halls. Barely working elevator. It only took us up. There was no way to take it down since the buttons to summon the elevator were missing. OJ machine that didn't work. Out of coffee more times than not. Complained about TV not working, a person came up and put it on blurry channel six. When I complained that the image was bad, they smacked the TV hard. Truthful Review - Proceed with Caution Upon check-in, the front desk informed me they were doing me a favor by not scanning my credit card because, in their words, the owners "do funny stuff" with them. That alone was unsettling. I was then assigned a second-floor room--only to be informed afterward that the elevator was out of order. I had recently undergone back surgery, so climbing stairs was a major inconvenience. I was told the elevator would be fixed soon, but it wasn't during my stay. Later, I called the front desk because my TV remote was missing. The staff member told me it would take a while to bring it up because, as she put it, she was "old." She suggested I come get it myself. On my way to retrieve it, I overheard new guests loudly complaining at the front desk about walking into a room where someone had already used the bathroom--and left something behind in the toilet. After checking out, I requested a partial refund due to the elevator issue but was denied. If you're comfortable handing your card over to people who warn you about their own management, enjoy doing tasks housekeeping should handle, and don't mind unpleasant bathroom surprises left by previous guests, then this place might be for you. However, the hotel refused to refund the prepayment, citing the 24-hour cancellation policy. This hotel is a nightmare. I should have just listened to the reviews, but there was a mix of them. However, please believe the reviews of this hotel that are not good as these hold true facts. The hotel is supposed to be 100% smoke free, but it is not. The rooms are not clean as mine had ashes, cigarettes butts, dirty toilets, desk tops and bathtub. I couldn't get another room because they were all sold out (don't really want another room, I want another hotel). Customer Service was the worst by a lady named H***n. I won't disclose her whole name here. I feel like I'm in a nightmare, but I have contacted guest relations with Choice hotels and I am waiting to see how that goes. Took a shower, went partying and did not come back until the following evening. When I got to the room the bed was made and the dirty pillows were back on it. Tried to call the front desk but the phone was not working so I had to walk up there, I asked the person if I could have my linen changed please because they were dirty. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. Room was completely filthy! Bugs in the bathroom. Bedding was stained in different places. There was feces around the toilet paper holder. Carpets in the halls and rooms were all stained and hadn't been vacuumed in what looked years. The room smelled was horrific! I brought concerns up to front desk and the response was "there's no housekeeping here today. You can call the third party you booked through to get a refund if you want." It was 4pm!!! Motel smelled musty. Bathroom toilet seat was broken and bath towels are like sandpaper. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE BOOKING ONLINE. They charge $5 a night over the original charge even if you add a night while in their lobby. The front desk was awful , I called to see if there was a breakfast option due to the covid restrictions , he rudely said NO and then hung up the phone on me...also if there are all these covid restrictions why not space out the rooms. They put a family of screaming children in the room right next to us...I feel that there should be some distancing...also you would think people working here would be a lot nicer since the business has slowed down. This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I was in shock at the condition of the room. The disaster of a room included: thick layers of sanding dust and debris around the entire perimeter of the room, a heavy lamp on a random ledge with a cord dangling (huge safety concern for my young kids), holes in the tables, dried paint all over the floor, brown stains on the tub, paint and broken furniture outside the room in the hallway.... the list goes on and on. If this wasn't bad enough, I woke up with BUG BITES all over my arms and legs. We voiced our concerns while at the hotel and was assured a manager would contact us. No one called. After several phone calls and messages later a manager begrudgingly finally calls back. Wouldn't you think after all that a manager would apologize and offer a refund? NOPE. Had a one night stay with my parents and sister. The elevator shakes and makes a really frightening scraping sound as it approaches the 3rd floor. The first thing we noticed upon entering floor 3 was the NO SMOKING sign yet the overwhelming smell of stale cigarette smoke. The room phone button for the front desk did not work, and when I pressed zero it just rang and rang with no answer. After we got settled we told the man at the desk about the smoking issue and he told us there are smoking rooms on that floor! Are you kidding me? This is still legal? How can you mix smoking rooms and non smoking rooms on the same floor? Both of my parents sleep with a breathing apparatus and my sister is highly asthmatic. This is not acceptable. The rest of the inconveniences in no particular order: the shower turned up as hot as it could go was barely lukewarm at best. The towels felt like they were drenched in fabric softener and not absorbent whatsoever. Clumps of dirt all down the hallways and elevator all morning long. Continental breakfast was a joke. Looked like it was picked over and the countertops were filthy. No attendant in sight to tidy up or replenish food. The only hot options were frozen egg and sausage patties (not even in a chafing dish) and a waffle maker with only syrup, no fruit, whipped cream, or dessert sauces like continental breakfasts usually have. Ice machine was broken. Vending machine also broken. When checking out, they had incense burning at the front desk. It does not bother me, however, again, not acceptable for many people with allergies and asthma. The young girl working had her back turned to the customers and was chatting on her cell phone. When we finally got her attention, she asked how our stay was, and didnt offer much in the way of an apology... instead she asked us to post a review, so here's my review. The hotel advertises hot breakfast from 7 until 9 a.m. Eggs and sausage patties only - the eggs were gone, never to be replenished, before 7:40 a.m. There was a leak in the bathroom ceiling during the night. The property manager gave me attitude about stupid guests he can't control re: the leak. When I asked if they were going to discount our room because of the problems, I was told "Oh, Sleep Inn NEVER discounts anything!" So your best bet is to go somewhere else, where maybe they will take some responsibility when they don't meet their own standards. I've been staying at Sleep Inn for many years, and other Choice Hotels as well. They're usually basic but satisfactory, especially when my family is traveling and we'll only be staying one night. Why can you NEVER leave ZERO stars when you need to? We booked two King sized, non smoking rooms for a weekend away in this hotel. It was my Mother, my Father, my Husband, my 1 Year Old Daughter and Myself, who is PREGNANT! When we walked into the hotel the gentleman at the counter welcomed us and asked how he could help. When he pulled up our reservations he said "Okay two King Suites in Smoking." We kind of just looked at him because I'm VERY pregnant and we have an infant with us. When we explained that we had booked non-smoking he said "well it says smoking". I pulled the reservation up on my phone and zoomed in to where it said Non-Smoking. He didn't care. After over an hour of us seeing what we could do, where we could stay, what rooms we could stay in, he told us there was nothing we could do unless we paid an extra $80 per room to get a suite with two double beds. We ended up going down the road to Holiday Inn and for $1300.00 more we stayed there for the weekend and it was WONDERFUL. If I could leave NEGATIVE stars, I would. My family and I checked in on Monday evening after a fun-filled day at nearby Sesame Place. The hotel is definitely older and in need of some upgrades, but it was late, and we were exhausted .. so the esthetics were no big deal to us. EVERYTHING changed the next morning. We woke up and I saw what closely resembled a dropping in one of the beds. I went to the front desk and told the man [because he was no gentleman] that there was something that "appeared" to be a dropping in the bed. He came to take a look and simply brushed the specimen off the bed and stared at the ceiling. I said, "Sir, the object is black. The ceiling is white." He said he'd have maintenance come within a few hours. We were due to check out in about 45 minutes, so I asked to speak to a manager. He said that the manager would be there within 10 minutes and that he would send her directly to our room. Cool. 45 minutes later, no manager knocked on our door, and it was check-out time. I go to the front desk and ask if the manager arrived yet. The same man stated, "Oh, she's not coming in." I demanded that they call someone .. that manager, her manager ... SOMEBODY!! Mind you, no one issued an apology, any indications of empathy, ANYTHING!!!! They began talking to each other in their own language. The young lady behind the counter begins calling .... she claims that the manager is not picking up. My husband and I remained standing at the front desk as she calls. At this point, the man is frustrated ... the tone of his voice is escalating, and he even asked, "exactly what do you want??" I had to stop talking to him completely. He was beyond condescending and rude. Somehow, MIRACULOUSLY *rolls eyes* the manager answers the phone. The young lady talks to her for a few minutes in their own language and finally tells me "She's issuing a refund." I said, "Okay that's fine, but let me speak directly to her." Because at this point, its waayyyyy bigger than the refund. I speak to the manager and tell her exactly what happened. She offers a half hearted apology and states that she's issuing a refund. I said, "Okay, that is fine. But you also need to be aware of the unprofessional and deplorable conduct of your front desk staff." Before I could even finish, the manager, Ms. Jadu Patel, begins to loudly overtalk me, just as the male had! Literally cutting me off, offering the same dry apology, and not listening to a word I had to say. The only thing I said that she responded to was my threat of writing this Yelp review and contacting corporate. She said, "Oh no, ma'am, that won't be necessary!" Oh, its very necessary dear. If I could give negative stars I would. Let's begin... we got to our room and it was absolutely disgusting. First the window curtain had blood on it! Hotel reeks of cigarettes. There was hair on the commode and bathtub, the carpet had not been vacuumed. Bottle caps everywhere. I looked behind the couch and there was bottle caps and half a stick of beef jerky. An empty can of twisted tea was next to one of the beds. The microwave had never been cleaned... ever! The walls had mold that had been painted over, and to top it off the window was shattered. (Pictures of all of it) upon talking to hotel staff we were told that the cleaning crew had maybe missed a few spots but they would not move us to a new room. After a few minutes of arguing with the front desk, they told us to just leave! Shaun was the manager working and he was shouting at my sister-in-law. Finally after an hour or so, they put us in another room. This room was a little less disgusting but same microwave situation and still never vacuumed! Anyway I would not recommend staying here! I am transgender I was approached by the maintenance man and the younger front desk man. the maintenance guy told me he was the building manager and that my Neighbors on both sides of my room have been complaining about strange sexual noises and then offended me by saying that they think I was smoking meth!!!! I didnt even have any sex while there so how could that kind of noise happen! I was very offended by the thought that I was smoking drugs in the hotel. but even if i was what right does the employees have to talk to me like that especially when every day you can smell weed down most of the halls yet I was told to finish my last 2 days ( was there from 1/8/24 to 1/29/24 am) 2 days then leave and dont make a reservation to come back there again. I don't know very many people that would spend as much money being in a hotel as I do. Because of that I do see a good reason to go to a Sleep Inn and Suites or any hotel that Choice Hotel owns because if this is how im treated after spending over $2,000 to stay there, then i would rather stay at a cockroach infested Motel over being like i was. I have no doubt it was because im a MtF transgender female, because of the way I was being looked at, at different times throughout the time i was there. The only employee I can say i give to thumbs up for is where the very nice lady that works the morning at the front desk. I do not recommend others to stay there. When we were there an ad popped up for $76 night same hotel! It was more like camping and should have been a $59 special! Coffee was cold...no juice and front desk clerk said come back at 11 am and there would be more. No breakfast available but they charge extra for it on room ads....not even individually wrapped muffins and only vending machine doesn't work. Safety issues of exposed wires, smells if smoke, garbage view out back windows.....I could go on and on. Clearly building maintenance has been neglected even pre-covid by the poor condition. I was almost assualted by a male at the front desk and I had three witnesses and video footage. I filed s police report. I am suing this hotel. Ok - so the room was what one can call "ok", but the one star is for the following four very specific (and for a motel, very basic) reasons. 1. I've never smoked and asked for non-smoking, and all the rooms in the wing my room was in had a plastic "no smoking" sign right below the room number plate on the wall by the door. I walked in and the room had a very heavy smoked-in smell. Sigh - but I was tired after a 4-hour drive, was late for dinner with a sibling, and would live with it. But that was just the start. 2. When I went to leave the room, I found that the door would not lock when exiting, no matter what I tried. Pull it all the way shut, and I could not make it click. It just pushed open. Not only that, you could see a shaft of sunlight all along the locking side of the door, indicating a warped door. Poke the door with your finger and it opened. I could lock it from inside (push hard, engage deadbolt) but not from the outside. The desk clerk did not seem fazed that this room did not lock, but seemed amazed that I was that concerned about it, telling me "it's ok, it's safe there" (3rd floor is apparently free of crime in her opinion). Come on - I spent the first seventeen years of my life in this town, are you being serious? I told her I would absolutely not pay almost $100 to leave my bags and return to an unlocked room late at night. Who would? She then said they were full, then asked if I would accept a "smoking" room. No. I would either find another motel, or sleep on the couch offered to me by my brother already. And this leads to reason number 3 for the one star. 2. She said she found a non smoking room - room 313. She asked me to check it out. I did, and found that, instead of the standard room number on the plastic wall plate, the room number was scrawled on a piece of paper and taped to the door (looked so funny I took a quick photo). The bare spot on the wall showed where the plate had been pulled off. I went in, and sure enough, the room smelled very smokey, just like the previous "non-smoking" room. Ok, I was tired and late for dinner with my Brother, so I thought, fine. I just need a place to sleep, so I said "it's ok" and went to dinner. It wasn't until later when I returned from dinner that I noticed that all of the rooms in my wing but mine had the plastic room numbers, but did not have the "no smoking" sign just below the number (the way all the rooms on the other wing had, which was literally 30 feet away on the other side of the elevator). Ah. So my new room (313) was in the "smoking" wing, but with the room number sign removed, so in theory this room (located in the smoking wing) can be passed off as either smoking or non-smoking, depending on the request at the time). And if your definition of non-smoking is that no one is smoking in the room "while you are in it", they nailed it! Ah well, at least I can make coffee in the morning. Wait. 3. I couldn't make coffee because the filter basket was caked in old coffee ground sludge. It was really nasty. So, at that point, I got out my phone and took snaps of the door with the scrawled number taped to it, the missing room number plate on the wall, and the nasty, filthy coffee maker so I could upload them to this site. 4. In the morning, I chose not to partake of the free breakfast, as the very very small kitchen area (size of my bathroom, truly) was clogged with people. I can't really comment on the breakfast because I walked next door to the conveniently located Dunkin Donuts. Hey! That's something positive! There's a Dunkin Donuts next store! Ok - let's end on a positive note. The room wasn't "terrible", it was average for this class of motel. It was clean (except for the coffee maker), and the bathroom was spotless and the shower had great water pressure. Check-out was a breeze. So was it the worst ever? Not by a stretch. But my $98 room was more like a $39 experience, to be honest. So long as you are ok with going back to a room that doesn't lock. But don't worry - "it's safe". read more

I have been a CHOICE Rewards member for 20+ years and stayed at numerous of their hotels. This last road trip from Ma to Fl reflected a deplorable decrease in quality of services and hotel maintenance. The worst was at the Ben Salem, Pa Sleep Inn and Suites. After spending 7+ hours in the car with 2 special needs adult children and a service dog, I arrived at 2:55 pm to an empty desk. After calling for assistance, a maintenance man appeared and said no one could check me in and to wait 15 minutes. When I explained the circumstances and mentioned I would be including the lack of service in my review, he yelled at me and went after me with a fisted hand. Being exhausted, fearful and trying to calm my tired kids who were starting to act up, I had them come sit in the lobby to wait (the car was hot). The man then angrily rolled a luggage cart toward my car, again fearing bodily harm. When someone finally arrived to check us into our room, I was appalled by the dirty, room: tub half full of water from a dripping faucet; filthy rugs completely buckled; a closet door that was unable to be opened with hinges on the wrong side; one small bar of soap; 2 towels for room that was suppose to accommodate 6 people; freezer full of so much ice I was barely able to fit a freezer pack in it; broken, stained lamp shade and no bulb; and furniture so scratched up it appeared to harbor dirt. If you choose to stay at this hotel, I sincerely hope that you have a better experience, customer service and accommodations. Note the CHOICE website was down, not taking my password requiring me to change it twice with still no success. When I called their customer service phone number, I was told there were 30 people ahead of me. Hitting the option to have a call back, I NEVER received a return call. read more

I was astonished to see this type of discrimination and the lack of customer service. I do not recommend this hotel. Pretty standard chain hotel. I stay here a few times a year when I have to be in the area and it's one of the best (out of other chain hotels in the area) as far as price goes. Heads up on the luggage carts: you will see them on either side of the sliding doors when you enter, but they are quite rickety and flimsy in my opinion. Wish they had bigger hooks on top that were sturdy so I could hold more stuff when coming with family and there are a lot of bags and such. I don't know how they have positive reviews must be fake accounts or something, because when I say this I truly mean it. I instantly got a head ache from how stale and smelly the air was. When walking down the hall we saw 4 crackheads with a massive bag of trash outside of their room. When we got to our room the door wasn't even closed, so we were terrified to go into the room thinking there was junkies or some crazy stuff happening in our room but the only thing waiting for us there was a broken in closet, dust all over the floor with stains from god knows what. We also noticed the air filters for the AC havnt been cleaned since the opening of the place it was caked with dust and the night lamp had a pretty little blood stain on it. If I could leave less than one star I would do that with no hesitation at all. We were staying as part of a Conference Group from Sunday - Thursday. My colleague and I checked in to this location with little to no difficulty which was the only blessing of this trip. When I walked into my room there was food in the fridge still and hair clogging my shower drain - YAK. I didn't say anything as I work in the hospitality industry and to complain about something like that is small to me. The following day after being out of the room for 9+ hours I was tired and just wanted to shower and relax. I came into my room and housekeeping was never there. On Wednesday (The finale as I like to call it) while in conference I received 4 missed phone calls and it was the hotel. They told me I was suppose to check out today and if I didn't come pick up my stuff they'd throw it out. I frantically ran back to the hotel showing them my reservation until Thursday. I asked to speak with a manager and she flat out told me no. I then proceeded to go up stairs to find my room was thrown all over the place. Clothes every where and my laptop on the floor STEPPED ON AND BROKEN. I then pull back the sheets to find a USED CONDOM. DISGUSTING ON SO MANY LEVELS. I receive a phone call telling me the manager is there and would love to talk to me. So I pack up and go downstairs, the manager then tells me that it is MY FAULT and how she was going to "ban" me from all Choice hotels locations as well as contact the police. To make a long story incredibly short I will NEVER stay at any choice hotel location EVER they could offer me free rooms for life and I still would not lower myself to this. read more
