There are no restaurants or bars within walking distance, you have to drive 5 to 10 minutes to the nearest food and shopping hubs. 10 to 15 minute drive to Mayo Clinic. Checking in was a bit of a hassle, the clerk on duty was kind of grumpy, but she was alone and had to do everything herself. She answered all my questions and gave me the keys to my room. I was booked for two nights. This is an extended stay hotel, with a kitchen you can cook in, so the hallways smelled like onions. The room itself was okay, nothing fancy and the furniture was worn, but everything was clean and the bed was comfortable, and the place was quiet. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels. The shower had plenty of hot water but low water pressure. Unfortunately, the air conditioning/heater in the room was very noisy and when I asked that it be looked at on the morning after checking in while I was at Mayo Clinic during the day. No one did, so I had to listen to it for another night. The windows didn't close tightly, so cold air leaked into the room. The television had cable channels and offered no streaming services and is set up to prevent you from casting to the TV with your own devices without using the hotel's upgraded WiFi service you have to pay for. The hotel's free WiFi is a joke, so slow that it is barely usable and only good for sending emails . The free breakfast is prepackaged muffins bought that look like something you'd buy in a multi pack at Aldi's and cereal bars. I didn't notice any free beverages to go with the muffins and cereal bars. There certainly worse places to stay in Rochester, Minnesota. I probably wouldn't stay at this hotel again after my experience there. I feel that I paid way to much for what I got.

We arrived an hour earlier than check in as we were coming from Mayo Clinic and assumed from our experiences with other places it wouldn't be a problem. Well it was. Front desk person, who looked like she could have been the daughter of a mountain man and should go by the name of one of "cousin Eddy's daughters' names," instead of Kim. She turned us away stating we were too early and "our room wasn't ready" without looking at her computer or even taking our name. One can only assume all cleaning personnel are cleaning every dirty room in the place all finishing at exactly 3:00pm simultaneously. She then needed our license plate info, would not make make/model suffice, and sent us back out into the rain twice to get the plate number and put the sticker in the window...all the while with a smirk on her face. Our only other interaction with her was in bypassing when she was ripping another customer a new A because "HE (as she intensified) lost" whatever. Cleanliness in room was fair as mentioned earlier but not so overall. There was a red stain in the stairway that was eye-catching (AKA pool of blood?) and a bag of trash sat outside our neighbor's room the three days we were there. Also, not ONE cleaning personnel was spotted the three days being there and we were in/out of our room several times a day on the end of the floor. Also, I can't stress how devastating this last part was for us: no coffee anywhere. None. None in room, none in lobby. This place not worth the money. Spend the extra few dollars and get a better place. You're welcome.

Distance from St. Mary's Hospital is 4 MILES - and - 5 MINUTES…read more As long as you understand that and plan for a little bit of a strange main road / back road travel, this hotel is a good choice. I stayed in a 2 queen suite. There is a well-appointed lobby other right. The check-in desk in front of you. To go to the left you had to make it through this little maze-like turn. I ran into people going the opposite direction from me every time I went in and out. Someone has to pause and move out of the way. (Is this a personality test?) Right before the elevator cubby, there is a cubby area with a wide selection of well-stocked shiny vending machines. And 1 small table with 2 chairs. (It feels like when you were being told to go to outside to play or just go to your room.) I was not impressed with the way the associate spoke to one guest. There may have been a bit of back story because we had wonderful service at check-in. The kitchen includes a full size refrigerator. Be sure to turn on the ice maker to make less trips out of the room! Anything you could need in the kitchen is there - it might be hiding but it is in there! The cabinetry throughout the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom is the same as is used in the Homewood Suites (Hilton) - (Candlewood is IHG). It is smooth and sleek. The long table is the entire length of the room to give you a counter to eat at, desk to work at, a table for the TV and drawers for clothing. The drawers run quietly so you don't wake anyone in the next bed. The bathroom is behind an angled door. First thing you see is the sink and giant mirror. I knew there was a blow dryer on the wall behind me! But as most hotels do now there were exactly as many small bath towels as people registered for the room. I was having surgery the next day on my back and needed someone to help me wash it. In the first 12 hours there we would need 4 towels, at least, and we had 3. But when we dialed the front desk (0) the staff brought us towels right away! Excellent service!! Everything seemed to have been just scrubbed.There are those spots at the bottom of grout that accumulate due to spending so much time without light. The tub has the nice rounded rod to give you that little bit of extra room. The soaps are in a little cage system on the wall. Right now it is ok, but in the future - what will that look like? They tend to acquire problems as they age. At the sink, the problem was the soap dispenser under the open cabinet was inaccessible. The other door is for a long closet. A luggage rack and a laundry basket are both provided because the laundry room is close, bright and easily accessible. The closet could hold enough clothing for 4 people for 1 week if they hung everything up. All in all 4 out of 5 More hotels need to label their pillows soft or firm! On the other hand all hotels need to learn that both sides of the bed need to be able to plug in a sleeping device!

Wrong, they wait about a week and run charge through. If booking through a third party, like Priceline, they still charge your card. When notified, they plead ignorance, new employee error, etc. They also have shower doors that won't stay shut without holding them closed. Never staying there again. Beware!

One critique I'd provide is needing more breakfast staff on hand. They ran out of plates and ran low on hot items. There were several of us standing around waiting for quite awhile. I just ended up putting other food in a napkin and taking it back to my room to eat. Not ideal but doable. For location, ambiance, and room quality, this Residence Inn is a solid choice. They just need to fine tune the breakfast experience during peak times.

Check in was a breeze, and the valet service was quick to greet us, help us unload our bags, and get our car whisked off for parking. The front desk attendant was so quick and offered us some food suggestions while they worked on getting us our room. After taking the elevator up to our floor, we got situated and relaxed a bit before checking out the space. The room was spacious, and included all the amenities we've come to expect from a Hilton property. Everything was clean and well maintained, and thanks to Hilton Honors, we had our complimentary water bottles already in the room. The beds had lovely linens on them, and the pillows were quite fluffy, which is something that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in hotels I feel. The bathroom was also wonderful with a nice deep soaking tub, which I had the pleasure of taking for a spin one evening. The bathroom sink had great water pressure, which gave me a lot of hope for the shower, but the shower just lacked that same oomph.

Because it was also very cold, the windows kept cracking and the sidewalk plow outside was so loud I thought someone was vacuuming above our room. Maybe I'm just over assuming but I feel like the windows should have kept more of that noise out. The ick: I'm pretty sure at least 2 sets of our towels were just re-hung up from the prior occupant of our room, both due to smell and appearance (see picture). In all my years of staying at hotels not once have i ever even suspected that is the case, until this stay. Overall, my general impression is that this is a great Hilton property.
