Rooms smelled of stale smoke even though it was a non-smoking facility and there wasn't a vending machine in sight for something to drink.

Rebranded from "Microhotel" to "Sleep -- by Choice." Clean, comfortable, convenient. Suitable for a quick overnight on a long road trip.

TERRIBLE. I mean, really bad. Disgusting. Dark, dirty, Internet out for 24hours, awful service,…read morelack of staff, poor lighting, bad odors, coffee NEVER EVER hot, lobby floors / carpet regularly filthy, hair and blood on surfaces and so much more! Prior to 2022, I thought this hotel was the best in Erie. I'd stayed there 5 separate times during visits home in the last decade. Amazing employees. But now? The place has been ruined. I had a weeks reservation and left 2 days early, no refund. Every day was a struggle not to leave and just find a hotel on the under-construction Bayfront instead. Apparently SpringHill Suites was bought out and "renovated" back in 2022-2023 (you wouldn't know it to see the place). They removed the upgraded suites with Hot Tubs and made everything cookie cutter with dark floors, walls, and lighting. It's so dark you can barely see when away from the one single window. I'm not exaggerating. I can only imagine its to hide the filth because they've cut back on all cleaning/staffing. There is only 1 person on front-desk duty at a time and usually a long wait for anything. The Internet went out one day, all day (and night) - and there was no notice or explanation or communication that went out to guests. Many guests were understandably upset; staff did not care. Older guy with gray hair who on duty said he'd made the call to tech support and got a service ticket. I asked if he'd followed up for status - and his face showed the expression of a dumb*ss who'd never think to do such a thing. He really was the worst of them. A sorry sack of worthlessness and sorrow. If he didn't have such a bad attitude, I'd pity him. Bare minimum is the name of the game in this place. Lobby cleaned once a day in the morning, and not thoroughly. Always had to step over chunks of dirt, mud, grass etc. Didn't matter what time of day you'd try the coffee, it was NEVER hot. I experienced this EVERY FREAKIN' DAY. Then I'd ask the front desk for hot coffee and they'd grab a new dispenser from the supply room (a room from which a rotton odor would consistently waft out of). So why is it that staff can't just learn to replace the coffee regularly if it's ready in the back? Not hard to set a timer to put new coffee out every 3 hours or so. Same time every day. Bare minimum effort, that's why. No proactivity and no one cares. Poor manager was only hired 3 months prior they said. Likely a high turnover will continue for the foreseeable future. This place nearly ruined my trip. I didn't let it, but it was a struggle. AVOID this hotel at all costs to demonstrate that we won't just accept nastiness and slop. *NOTE: Upon my arrival, and seeing what the hotel had become and how DARK the rooms were, I tried to cancel the stay. The front desk clerk tried, but had to call the manager who wouldn't allow it because it was a "nonrefundable" reservation.*

This hotel was very nice, as Marriott Hotels always are. The lobby had a pretty Christmas tree…read more Staff were nice. However, some details were overlooked like a hair in the shower and the hair dryer bag being dirty, on arrival. Also, the TV remote needed new batteries. The shower had good water pressure and a rain shower head. The continental breakfast had a good selection of food, including a waffle iron (but it only went till 9:30am). The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. The room included 2 beds, a sleeper sofa, a mini fridge, a microwave, two TV's, and a Bible (in the dresser). The TV had a good selection of channels (Hallmark, Freeform, GAF). I liked that there was an extra sink and mirror outside of the bathroom, which made it easier for everyone to get ready to leave in the morning. There was a pool on site but we didn't use it, due to it being a short stay. The elevator was poorly marked (on the 3rd floor), as in there was no overhead sign pointing it out from a distance.

Badly stained tub. Mildew. Shower handle loose. Overall, this is a below average property in need of better quality renovations. Bathroom was a bit off putting, but I appreciated the early check in.

I was able to utilize the lobby for my meeting with my junior high students on 3/22/2021. The kind woman at the desk even supplied me with a pen and paper so I could properly prepare for my Google Meet without re-entering my room and reawakening my better half. Without a breakfast, due to the Pandemic, there were some pricey items that one could buy. $2.50 large Rice Crispy Treats and $2.50 almond nut peanut butter snack bars were a little costly. These amenities should have been included but I realize all businesses are having a hard time. Finally, I want to expand on the cleanliness and care that Hilton puts towards going beyond safety standards to guarantee their customers' safety and wellness. To name a few items: the room has a taped entry showing that the room has not been entered since being cleaned. Both Hilton's that we have stayed in the past 3 weeks had jars to leave your pass cards in upon departure. Finally, areas where patrons had been sitting in the lobby were cleaned and ready for another patron to sit down. Great job, Hilton Erie Pennsylvania!!!

I immediately contacted the hotel through chat and received only a brief "we do apologize" response. Since we had no clean towels or fresh linens, I went to the front desk myself and was told towels would be brought up within 20 minutes. After waiting another hour with no delivery, I had to return to the front desk again. I was given one towel and one washcloth for a room with two guests because the remaining towels were still "in the washing machine." The sheets were never changed. The hotel appeared very short-staffed, and while I understand staffing challenges happen, guests should not have to repeatedly chase down basic housekeeping service. As a Silver member for nearly 10 years, I've stayed frequently enough to know this experience fell well below expectations. Very disappointing stay and not the level of service I expected.

How much worse can it be? Glad you asked, the second floor doesn't have ac in the hallways. We are booked for 4 nights after having our Airbnb cancelled for an event. What a disappointment. Had we known the limitations of allowing our party to be rebooked through a third party we would have accepted the refund to the cc and rebooked individually, I'll update if we have any other nightmares during the trip but so far this is the bottom of the barrel.

That is about where the positives end. We booked this hotel as part of a package through Splash Lagoon. I wish we would have paid the about $50 more to stay at one of the other connected hotels. When we went to check in, the clerk basically couldn't be bothered to be there. They were borderline rude and couldn't answer a basic question we had. When we got to our room, all but one of the lights were burnt our or didn't work. When we called to mention it, the clerk said something along the lines of "what do you want me to do about it" Then said "I suppose we could move you to a different room since I don't know if we have someone that can look at the lights" The new room was better, but definitely well worn and dated. The walls are also very thin. You could hear conversations and the TV from the rooms nearby and could hear anytime someone walked down the hallway. It is a fairly long walk to the waterpark, but it is nice to not have to worry about going outside to get in to the park. I will say breakfast in the morning was actually decent. The breakfast workers were all very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast area was clean and replenished. It was a warm, mostly clean place to sleep with a fairly decent breakfast, but I would never stay here again.

The beds were comfortable and the sheets were incredibly soft, although the sheets absolutely would not stay on the bed, and we were constantly having to fix them. The biggest cleanliness issue was finding an entire head of lettuce left in the refrigerator from the previous guests, which was definitely an unpleasant surprise and made us question how thoroughly the fridge had been checked between stays. The pool was decent, although the water was quite chilly. Breakfast was very good with a nice variety of options, and I especially appreciated having actual ceramic plates and real silverware instead of everything being disposable. It was a small touch, but it made breakfast feel much nicer. Especially enjoyed the French toast and chicken sausage options! Our room also didn't have an ice bucket, but since the kitchenette was well stocked, we just used one of the bowls from the kitchen drawer and made it work. Overall, the positives definitely outweighed the negatives. We enjoyed the spacious room, comfortable beds, kitchenette, and breakfast and would stay here again. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars -- a good stay with just a few housekeeping/room-detail issues that could be improved.
