Exquisite place! Absolutely stunning. A 1876 Victorian era mansion that is the perfect place to stay! Steve and Lisa are 2 gems for sharing their home with the world. I would like to keep this a secret but that wouldn't be fair. What an amazing bed and breakfast. The owners/innkeepers make your stay the best it can be. Very relaxed environment making you feel immersed in the historical beauty of this very special place. We stayed in Mary's room and it was very comfortable. Breakfast was superb and Steve gave us the recipe to his blueberry stuffed French toast. I highly recommend you stay here and indulge yourself. Very nice bed and breakfast in Erie. Half the price of lakefront hotels but still close to Presque Isle and lakefront attractions. Breakfast were delicious and filling enough that we skipped lunch each day. The house has beautiful wood work and is nicely furnished. Our room was the Presidential suite which was spacious. The beds mattress was super comfy. We used the available parking in their lot. The hosts were affable and had good tips for dining and places to visit. read more

Beautiful historic home with all the amenities that create a welcoming and cozy environment. Steve and Lisa were wonderful hosts, providing resources for our stay, information about the community and details on the history of their home and experience as inn keepers. Our room was private and very comfortable. The private bath with the Nanny's room, with claw foot bath provides a heavenly end-of-day soak. We enjoyed lounging in the common areas on the first floor. The breakfasts provided on the two mornings of our stay were delicious and satisfying. Perfect way to begin a day of exploring Erie's natural areas and waterfront. This was our first experience at a Bed and Breakfast and we absolutely loved it! The house is amazing and the historic Architecture was beautiful! The fresh cooked breakfast was yummy and the chocolate chip scones were hot and fresh and the best I've ever tasted. We stayed in the captains room and it was beautiful. While looking for hotel accommodations in Erie, I noticed a couple bed and breakfasts at the same nightly price and thought, how can I not? I started reading reviews online and one guest had given a poor review because there are cats at Spencer House. I wasn't sure how that was a negative, and it says right on their website that they have house cats that may wander around (but aren't allowed in guests rooms) so I'm not sure how he was surprised by their felines. As a cat lady, I saw this as a positive and immediately booked the Mary room for my two night stay. When I arrived, one of their cats (Niki) was waiting for me at the door. Joy welcomed me in and I met her husband Fletcher as she gave me the run down. I settled in to my room nicely. Mary's room is small, but I was travelling alone and only needed one bed. The shower in this room was a bit small (I think they converted a closet) but the room itself was very comfortable. Just outside Mary's room on the second floor is a solarium where you can enjoy any number of beverages provided included hot tea, hot chocolate, bottled water and an assortment of sodas. Wifi and cable TV are also included in each room. They even have off-street parking. Fletcher makes a mean breakfast and every morning the menu is different. Joy serves and entertains while Fletcher cooks up some of the best scrambled eggs. Both mornings I was served fresh fruit before my hot breakfast. Joy offers tea or coffee as well as juice. One morning their other house cat Chi even joined us. I had a lovely time meeting the other guests and chatting over the sweet and savory delights. Though I would have been fine just talking to the cats. I cannot say enough about the wonderful service I had at Spencer House. Every day as I wandered in and out from my adventures Joy would ask how my day was and what I had planned and make recommendations (like the blueberry milkshake at Sara's near the entrance to Presque Isle). I won't stay anywhere else next time I'm in Erie. Spencer House deserves more than 5 stars for providing a most relaxing place to stay. read more

We would have loved to stay here after a long day's drive. We traveled about 1700 miles in the last couple days. Sadly, the proprietor refuses any reservation not made online 24 hours in advance. In all my years of staying at charming B&B's, I've never come across such a peculiar rule. Best wishes honey, I always thought that the end goal was to make dollars, not turn them away. read more

I stayed at the Spencer House when I was in Erie for a business conference at the Bayfront Convention Center. I am really happy I stayed here. The B&B is about a little over a mile from the convention center, and it's a 10 minute walk to the main restaurant strip. I stayed in the Nursery, which has 2 double beds. The photos on the website don't do justice to the size of the room. There is a chair next to the beds, a dresser, and a large area in front of a fireplace. The private bathroom is next to the room but only for your personal use. On the second floor where the room is located is a nook in the front with bottled water fountan, a refrigerator to store snacks and chilled bottle water. A very nice breakfast is included in the morning. I met several other guests who were there on business and we agreed it was a very civilized way to travel. I will definitely stay here the next time I travel to Erie. read more

We stayed at Spencer House in Mary's Room for one (1) night. The bed was comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was very good. The house is beautiful and the hosts are so nice. I wish we would have had more time to enjoy this unique house! Breakfast was good and I enjoyed chatting with the other guests. I'm a registered nurse and I'm on my way home from New York City after working in one of the COVID-19 hospitals. So, you can guess that I take my precautions seriously. Well, so does Spencer House. The rooms were amazing, the food was fantastic, the hospitality outstanding, and the precautions were appropriate and non-intrusive. The home has a rich history and is close enough to the lovely downtown that a short walk will take you to the numerous pubs and restaurants now starting to reopen. This old home that has been restored to a B&B is located on Millionaire's Row in Erie, Pennsylvania. It is everything you are looking for in both quality and service. Located in downtown Erie, you can easily access any local attractions. Our hosts, Steve and Lisa, took care of us from start to finish. Information emails prior to our arrival, as well as any special request we may have had were offered. Steve gave us a tour of the house upon our arrival, along with some very interesting history about the Spencer family. We reserved the President's Suite, which is located on the 2nd floor. The room was large and very clean. We had our own bathroom and shower in the room. There is a couch and desk with a chair for sitting areas. Also on the floor is a coffee/tea making area and a small refrigerator full of water and soda for guests. The breakfast was everything you could ask for. We had an early flight and needed to move up our time for breakfast, Lisa was completely accommodating with our schedule. Coffee and juice are available as soon as you arrive in the dining room. On our day they had fresh fruit to start the meal, eggs with cheese, sausage, potatoes and pancakes. Everything was prepared and seasoned just right. We had a great experience at Spencer House and would definitely stay again if our paths take us back to Erie. read more

A great place to stay in Erie. My wife and I were absolutely amazed with the friendliness, the hospitality, the cleanliness, and the budget that is attributed with the Spencer House. The proprietors, Fletcher and his wife Joy, were the perfect hosts. As I walked in Fletcher was reading a book in the living room and was kind enough to give me a grand tour. Joy came out of the kitchen and helped me with my luggage and checked me in. Before we even finished the first few sentences, I knew I was in a safe, comfortable place. The rooms are moderately sized, as expected from an older house, and were kept in the style of the house's peak. Aside from the flat screen and wifi, everything was vintage, stylized for the period, and beautiful. Water, coffee, and pop were available at any time, but breakfast was the best part. Fletcher cooks while Joy helps with coffee, passes out fresh fruit, and helps everyone get settled in. The door is left open on nice days, so everyone sits on the porch and enjoys a healthy conversation. I couldn't believe how friendly everyone was. What a great place! read more

Wow! Amazing place! Steeped in history, this beautiful place most wonderful woodwork and Victorian charm. The owners are so kind and accommodating. The neighborhood area is quiet and cute. I came to Erie with my mom for a overnight stay to treat ourselves to something fun and have a change of scenery. We are both fans of older houses and this bed and breakfast was an absolute delight! The details in the decoration and design are really what makes it special. Also, there are so many little things that show that the owners care about the guests' level of comfort and that they want to provide a luxurious stay. In the morning, Fletcher cooked up this incredible breakfast for us and it was so nice to have Joy serve it with a smile. The breakfast is in fact as good as it looks in the picture, if not better. Light and fluffy cinnamon chip pancakes with banana, brown sugar, and nut garnish, perfectly cooked home fries, also perfectly cooked fluffy eggs with melted cheese, and a delicious slice of ham. The fruit and ramekin of yogurt was beautiful and delicious too! Also I have to mention that the coffee was exactly how I like it. I stayed for three nights in Erie Pa. I had not been there in 50 years , but thought a B & B would be nice as a complete change from Los Angeles. And it was. From the initial warm greeting, the great room ("Mary's Room") a peaceful private room. And the home cooked breakfast in the mornings, which I begged for lunch and dinner too, but sorry only a delicious breakfast! I was in walking distance of historic mansions, museums etc. i would definitely stay there again and refer the Coleman's place to everyone. BTW, Wi-fi worked great.
