I hesitate to tell others because these guys are my secret auto service guys. Kidding aside, the crew at Slim's is the greatest. They are so honest, they'll tell you when you don't need something done to save you money. They don't try to "upsell" everything by telling you 20 other things you should have them do to your vehicle. They will tell you if something truly needs attention though. They have always done super high quality work, and at a very fair price with good turnaround time. They are prompt with communication and never go silent. If I could rate a "0" I would. This is the worst shop I have ever used to service my vehicle. I brought my vehicle in because the car was shifting erratically and the digital dash was acting erratically as well. Slim's group changed the ECU computer 3 times, and charged me 3 times at $1000 each time, no warranty on the computers that they installed, and I still had the same problem. I took it to another shop, explained the issue and the mechanic said I think I know what it is. $45 later and the car was working as expected. I went back to Slim's to tell that what it was and he called me a liar. Never again! Avoid this business like the plague they are. read more

I recently brought 2 vehicles in for diagnosis & repairs, back-to-back. The first one was a catastrophic emergency repair. I was completely out-of-action. Despite not being scheduled, they got it fixed by the end of the day. I brought the second vehicle in the next morning. Again, they got it handled right away. Great job! Needed the fuel sending unit on my Suburban replaced 2 days before a 700 mile round trip up north to Lake of the Woods. Slim's is a great repair shop that treats customers right. They use quality NAPA parts. If you only want to use re-built parts, his staff will find you the best deal. I have been using Slim's for almost 20 years and he treats me and my vehicle right. If I have an emergency, he will try to get me right in. He doesn't always, but he tries. There is a library a just down the street to go to and wait if you need to. I was out of town once between Christmas and New Years and my Truck died. I found a shop in Kansas and was quoted a price. I called Slim's to see if I was being ripped off and he talked to the shop and I was treated great. It is nice to know that there are honest shops with integrity still around. The shop is clean. I hit a pothole on my way to work and the rusty bracket holding my muffler broke. My muffler was hanging down and very loud. After work I stopped by Slim's. He was closing but said he would take a look at it. He put the car up on the hoist and wired the muffler back up. It was wired up tighter than a bracket. I went to pay him and he said. "No. There is no charge. I was just happy I could help you." Then he gave me a hug. This act of kindness is holding onto me. I have heard about Slim from people at work. Slim's is a great place to get car repairs at. I've often found cheaper prices upon calling around, but when I do use Slim's I know I'm getting good, quality work done. I know that they aren't going to tell me my head light fluid is low lol; they're going to give me an honest diagnosis. Slim himself has come out and jump started my battery once free of charge. My family has been bringing vehicles to Slim's for years, and have always had nothing but wonderful experiences. I took my car to get a routine oil change at a nearby Midas, where I was told that my break pads and rotors would need to be completely replaced, and that they were worn down to essentially nothing. I received an extremely steep quote for what it would take to repair them. I took my car to Slim's to get a second opinion, only to find out that there was nothing wrong with my break pads or rotors, and that they were in essentially brand new condition. In addition, Levi did a full vehicle inspection (at no cost) and told me that nothing needed repairing, and that everything was in great condition. I have been coming here for years. This summer I had a blower which had a very pesky intermittent short persisting for a long time. One day the blower just died, so I took it to Slims. I had to rent a car to drive since mine was going in the shop. I work evenings so I dropped the car off after hours. It took two days for Slims to replace a blower and connector. This corrected the blower not working, but it still had the problem of having periods of intermittent shorts. I dropped the car off 3 more times over the course of a month and Slims tried addressing the problem each time. They only charged me for the initial repair of replacing the blower and connector and an oil change. (ran 400+) The last time I dropped it off, there wasn't much left to try to replace on the list of troubleshooting but what they did do, it worked and my blower has had no more periods of intermittent shorts. I rate Slims as an honest shop that does their best to try to fix the stated problems occurring with your vehicle for a reasonable amount of time & money. Best to try and get an appointment as they may not be able to get to your vehicle in the same day if you drop it off as they can be very busy but they'll do their best.. read more

They were pretty booked up and I wasn't able to get my car in that day. They charged my battery enough so I could drive out to my usual mechanic. They didn't charge me a dime for the charge. Slims is by far the most legit, and professional shop in town. My car started to overheat and got so hot a belt melted. I thought I'd be taken for a new radiator, flush, or something expensive (or told so anyway); I was told it was just needed a cleaning of the radiator, and I was out the door for $45. Most recently, they spent a couple hours troubleshooting a power issue and found out it was a $700 part, so they looked locally for a used part. After they couldn't locate (due to it being a rare part), they gave me the part number to look around the country and didn't charge me a penny for the labor, and let them know if they can be of further assistance. Part changers. That is what you get when you go to Slims. The owners son seems to be one of the worst mechanics I have ever encountered. We sent two of our cars there and got charged for work that was not done on one. Had a hub cap improperly put back on that came off on the way home. Was told to pick car up that it was all finished. Found parts that were supposed to be put on in trunk. I don't understand how these shops charge you for the "book" pricing when they are ant SAE or trained repairman. I truly wish they were more concerned with quality employees. I really need someone trustworthy and fair, like where I come from. But so far, Minneapolis has turned out to be filled with opportunists. read more
