Such a cute little lake with a beautiful backdrop of downtown Denver! It's nice brisk walk around the perimeter, too. I live closer to multiple other parks in Denver so I don't get here as often, but when I do, it's nice to look at! Though I don't think touching the water is safe, I've heard. Kinda sad it's TOXIC! Doesn't seem right to have killer water. Keep your pets out! Def not 5 star reviewing the inside water of the lake! Eek. That's a 1. Lots of business are across the street for a pre or post bite & drink after a walk, as well. read more

This is a beautiful park! It's about a 2 mile loop around the park with a nice breeze. It's very busy and parking was tough - we had to park on a close side street. There was a local popsicle vendor there which was a nice treat. The playground here is fantastic - I'm jealous I didn't have one like that growing up! The kids looked like they were having a blast. read more

I love Sloan's Lake Park. I had a really nice picnic there the other day with my baby. We shared a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and looked at the water and played at the beautiful new playground on the south side of the park. It's really a gorgeous place and it made me miss living in the neighborhood, but I'm glad I don't live too far away to visit. read more

Love this park! It's about a 2.6 mile loop around the lake, perfect for running or a stroll. There's a giant park with different playgrounds for all ages, a bike park, and a zip line. Multiple parking lots around the park plus free street parking. My family regularly drives 20+ minutes to come here. read more

Sloan's Lake is one of the nicest and most conveniently located dog-friendly parks in Denver. Located just about a 10 minute drive and 20 minute bike ride to Downtown Denver, Sloan's Lake has a ton to offer including the Edgewater Marketplace which is walking distance from the west side of Sloan's, fishing at the lake (although I would not recommend consuming the fish), paddle boarding on the lake, walking/running/biking around the lake, having a picnic which there is plenty of space to do, grabbing a drink at the Lakeview Lounge if dive bars are your thing, and many, many more. A lap around the lake is a little over 2.60 miles so keep that in mind when planning your visit. Make sure to wear comfortable footwear, apply plenty of sunblock, and drink a lot of water. Parking is plentiful. There are actual lots in every direction of the park except on the west and also plenty of street parking. I have never had an issue with parking here. I will say that it is a very popular park so if you are not a fan of lots of people during your park visits, sharing lanes with bikes, and/or dogs, this may not be the place for you. There are also events thrown here every now and then including my favorite, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival which showcases AANHPI (Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander) culture including food, performances, shops, education, and more. Make sure to check it out during the summer! read more

Super nice and well maintained park. Once Spring begins and the snow melts away, this place has a vibrant energy with plenty of smiling faces. In any given day there will be picnics, rec leagues for every sport you can think of, run clubs, families enjoying the playground, cultural celebrations, food truck nights, and more. There's always fun to be had at Sloan's Lake! read more

Sloans Lake is always a great place for some exercise! It's quite a good distance around to run or walk which makes a good challenge. I've only been once and parked at the east lot. There weren't many spots but people left often. It's a great place for photos of both the mountains and city. read more

I was in town for a few days with friends and on a beautiful, sunny afternoon and we decided to head to this area of town because we wanted to visit Edgewater Public Market. Before we grabbed food there we decided to stretch our legs and enjoy this park for a while. It's rather big, with a trail that circles the giant lake. There were tons of people exercising and walking their dogs, which was a highlight for our group, as we were all big puppy fans. We also saw turtles in the water and plenty of geese. There was parking scattered all around which made it easy to access. I saw somewhere that they host events here from time to time, which is a great way to use the space. There were also tons of businesses surrounding the park so we ventured over to a brewery for a quick stop. The view from that rooftop was beautiful. The lake with the mountains behind it, just lovely. read more

I live a few blocks from here and I walk around the park often. They have plenty of parking lots all around the park. The walk can get pretty loud along Sheridan but a super nice park! read more

I really enjoyed walking around Sloan Lake Loop! The loop is about 2.6 miles. The sidewalk is split to allow people to walk both ways. There's not a lot of tree coverage, so if you're sensitive to the sun, I'd recommend wearing sunscreen or a hat of some kind. read more

Cute park great for sunset picnics or volleyball! We decided to have a friends sunset picnic potluck and it was so fun! We unfortunately sat where we weren't able to see the sun set but the colors were still gorgeous! Bring bug spray though! And a mat because there is a ton of goose droppings! read more

Nice. Lots of people. Perfect place to have a picnic except, make sure you dehydrate yourself and drink nothing because they keep the bathrooms locked. So our family outing was cut short because we had to pack everything up and fight traffic to find a bathroom only to attempt to come back, unload. and do all again when the bathroom is needed. Stupid. Why would you lock the bathrooms? Will not be coming back. read more

Just saying, you can't come to Sloan's Lake Park with commitment issues about exercise. After dropping off my husband at an event, I decided to take a "short" walk with our two huskies. 1.5 hours later, we were exhausted back at the car. Since this is one big loop around the lake, there's no changing your mind and taking a shortcut back home! We were originally by the tennis courts and playground. Gorgeous views, shade, and plenty of picnic spots. Peak afternoon on a sunny Denver day is not ideal for huskies... or unprepared humans for that matter. Fortunately halfway through our walk, there was a Starbucks and Sonic's where I could stop and get some water for the pups. It was quite an adventure, and a beautiful one at that. I did read a few warnings about using the restrooms, but I generally stay away from public facilities. Next time I do this walk, I'd wear better shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and a hat. It's so close to where I live, like many other wonderful parks in Denver. read more

This place is awesome: a lake in the middle of the city. We went for the Dragon Boat Festival and it had great food, awesome souvenirs (we got a wooden umbrella, a cymbal hat, and some toys), live music on multiple stages, live martial arts demonstrations, and the dragon boat racing. The park itself has tons of people out just exercising and riding bikes. The lake has a small dock. Parking was a bit hard to find, but that was probably due to the festival. read more

Gorgeous place for a stroll and to watch the sunset behind the mountains. The path around the lake has 2 pedestrian lanes. On a nice day you'll see a bunch of people walking with their dogs, running, biking, and roller skating. Plenty of free parking lots around the lake. There's also a bunch of businesses around the lake if you want to grab a bite or drink after! read more

Pretty big park. Went to the annual dragon boat festival. It was fun; there were a billion vendors for food and merchandise. We arrived a little (fashionably) late so missed the main races but it was hotter than Hades so the cooler temp was worth missing them lol. Even though the (free) public event/park was jam packed it was still very clean, well monitored, and family friendly :) read more

This place was perfect! Bought my daughter here to play on the playground which was huge and has a section for older kids and then for toddlers as well. Very open space with a lot of greenery and beautiful path around the lake. Enjoyed it! read more

Sloan's Lake is one of my favorite parks to come to in Denver. I recently walked around the whole lake and it was great! I believe the whole loop is 2.6 miles, which is perfect and can be done in under an hour. The park itself is situated about 4 miles away from Downtown Denver, so it's only a short drive away. There's plenty of parking available in the parking lots, or you can even park on the side streets that are close by. Overall Sloan's lake is a wonderful outdoor park, come on down and enjoy what Denver has to offer! read more

Sloan's Lake Park is easily 5 stars. Absolutely huge 290 acre park w Denver's largest lake. No motorized vehicles, but plenty of space to kayak, paddle board, etc. About 2.5-3 miles to get a lap in depending on the path. Close to downtown w skyline views. Several decent bars & restaurants around it, but still v peaceful. After living in Austin, I know how sketchy a city park / town lake can get & this is nowhere near that bad. Homeless come & go in less than a day & don't dominate the scene. Getting some great updates like a new park w rocket ships & pickleball courts. Two dif full court basketball courts & loads of green space for a picnic. Love being here. Really is spectacular. read more

I love Sloan's Lake Park. It's a beautiful oasis in the middle of Denver. Despite being born and raised in such a landlocked state (I didn't know what a marina was until I was 12), I love water. As much as I love Lake Dillon, I appreciate that because of Sloan's Lake, I don't have to drive two hours on I-70 to get my lake fix. If you follow the path around the lake, it's 2.6 miles around. This took me about 50 minutes to walk, and it's a great workout with an amazing view. Last time I was here, it was at least 60 degrees, so there were lots of people enjoying the sunny weather. However, the path is long enough that it doesn't get too crowded, and some people are there to picnic or fish rather than walk. They have various parking lots around the perimeter of the lake, and there is ample street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. I usually park at a small lot just west of 17th and Osceola that's right along the trail. If you live in Denver or the surrounding areas and haven't spent time at Sloan's Lake, you should change that! read more

Sloan's is definitely one of my favorite Denver parks (along with Wash[ington] and Cheeseman). They have a lot to do there, with kayaks, paddleboards, pedal boats, bikes, etc. available for rent. Playgrounds for kids, walking paths, fields, picnic benches, and a lake also "reside" at the park. It makes for a fun, leisurely Saturday to bike, walk, or run/jog on the path that loops around the lake. I would say that my only big concern is that it can get a bit crowded on the trails, and masks are only encouraged, not required in the park, so you have a lot of people walking around without face coverings, but you can still hang around on the grass and such and social distance. It's a fun place if you'd like to bring your kids, doggers, friends, out-of-towners, etc. You can explore the lake, go for a bike ride, and there's plenty of space to set up cornhole or a volleyball net with friends. The lake water isn't exactly the cleanest, though, so I don't recommend swimming (boating and paddleboarding is okay, though). I think it isn't allowed anyway. Watch out for goose poop as well! It's a bit of a problem, but you can't control nature, so just watch your step. Go in gosling season, too- there are tons of fuzzy new friends! Enjoy, and you should certainly drop by whether for an afternoon of leisure, a picnic in the park, a festival, or more "sporty" activities. Ten stars if I could! read more

A beautiful city lake with a 2.5mi walking/ running trail encircling the perimeter. Plenty of parking in two parking lots located on either side of the lake. Come for a stroll, a jog (what most people were doing), to walk/ run the dog, or just to sit at one of the many picnic benches to relax. Lots of ducks to watch and laugh at with all their ducky antics (lol, what?). There are some beach-like areas too but I doubt the water is very clean. Mesmerizing backdrop of the Rockies and a crisp, icy morning had my heart reeling from the easy-going scenery. The stroll around the lake took ~1 hour. Such a vibrant array of people that come to visit this lake. All that put together makes for one rewarding visit. read more

One of Denver's premiere parks, Sloan's Lake is absolutely worth a visit. They've got some water sports in the summer as well as fishing and a great loop trail around the lake. Get up close to the lake and you can probably see some crawdads - just keep an eye out for the geese. read more

This is a great park with a 2.5 mile trail that circles a lovely lake. There is a parking lot with ample parking that is super easy. The park was vibrant with people, but not overly crowded. This is a great place to meet a friend for a walk or go for a jog. There are some beach like areas of the lake where dogs can easily wade in the water to get cooled off on a hot day. read more

I like this lake because of the beautiful sunsets from the east side. I also like it because it's close to my house. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come to this particular park in Denver. I say that because I have seen some pretty unsavory people hanging out. The other day I went by myself to walk my dog and a guy fully whipped out his junk and started peeing in the parking lot, in full sight of about 20 people. Also, this park gets SUPER crowded with families on the weekends and they literally take over any shady space, bench, the whole playground, and ALL of the trashcans (which are overflowing on a regular basis). There are also tons of geese which means shit tons of goose shit. Everywhere. Some genius decided to put a bag full of dog crap in a bag dispenser, so when my husband went to get a bag, he got a handful of shit instead. Nice. I have never seen a park ranger here, only lake patrol. It would be nice to see someone walking around making sure everyone was doing their part to keep this park clean and safe. read more

Nice view of both the mountains and city of Denver. Ample goose poop too! Park has multiple areas to park. Decent sized playground. A number of areas to grill on.Tennis courts. Soccer goal posts. A Basketball court and boat launches. Usually I'll walk around the lake solo or with the dogs and listen to a podcast or two. Bit over two miles completing the loop. Lot of people bike and skateboard around. A few pairs of roller blades and a number of runners can be seen training here. Good spot for meeting friends, hosting a picnic, fishing, or just sitting down to watch a sunset. Sees a good amount of the sun so even in winter it's an enjoyable spot to visit. Lot of geese around so be careful not to step in their mess. Or get too close especially when baby geese are in the fold. I've seen them get aggressive a time or two instinctively. read more

Sloan- I love that you're right in the heart of the highlands, have plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops near you, and host a variety of events on your grounds. Your walking paths and trails make the longest distance, seem shorter with your beautiful scenery and cool water - and allow me to get the workout I crave. I dig that parking is ample (and free!), and although you're popular, you're not always crowded. Your ball fields and courts make for a fun afternoon in Denver. Sloan's Lake Park is a beautiful place to come by and a perfect place to walk the dog (beware of the geese though!) or ride your bike around. The loop around is a little over 2.5 miles and is a great little workout. But just know that there isn't much shade so bring a hat to cover your face and put on your SPF before heading out. Now with this being a beautiful lake, my husband and I saw a handful of people with boats out on the lake (some water skied too). I am not sure if you can rent boats at the park though. A few things I want to mention about this park is that it is cool that there are dog bag dispensers along the loop around the lake. But again with the large amount of geese (and they are huge!) be sure that your dog(s) is able to get through your long walk and that you are able to control him/ her (them). I am pretty sure if we brought our dogs, they would drag us as they try to chase the geese and bark at them (but I don't blame them). I also want to mention that there is an small inspiration garden near this park that has beautiful flowers that is worth taking a look. The flowers smell truly lovely and sitting on the bench, you can see this amazing view of the lake. So if you haven't already, make sure that you stop by this park or come back if it's been a while since your last visit. read more

I live down the street from this park and I LOVE it! It's been great because I love seeing the seasons change around this Lake. It's usually not too crowded (except for on nice days on the weekends). I love how this walk gives you both a view of the mountains and Denver skyline. Some downsides of the park 1. Since it's around a lake there is a lot of bird poop on the walkway 2. I have at&t and don't have cell service on parts of the walk around the lake 3. The water is kind of gross (I wouldn't swim in it and don't see others doing that either) I'll occasionally see a paddle boarder and I think that's risky in this sketchy water. read more

Sloan's Lake is truly one of a kind. Not only are amazing events (like the Annual Dragon Boat Festival!) held here, but the daily walk around the lake is stunning to say the least! Easy to access with plenty of parking, a little over 3 miles once around the lake, and the SKYLINE of a view you get of Downtown Denver OR the mountains is really something special. I am in town visiting and I think this was one of the greatest walks I have ever gone on! The views are so beautiful that it is hard to believe that it is even real! There are a lot of great things about this park. There were so many people! Families, couples, friends, and my favorite: so many dogs! It is nice to see everyone outside enjoying themselves and being active. They also have bathrooms here which is always nice. And it is so close to so many places, so if in the middle of the walk you decide you want to pop over to the dispensary or a restaurant, it is all right there. I only wish I lived closer so I could come here everyday! So nice! read more

I come here once in a while to walk. It's a nice 1 hour walk around the lake and it's located near lots of restaurants. The area immediately outside of the lake is still under gentrification. There are some nice views of the mountains from here. Traffic is soooo congested in this area though! read more

Really good to walk/run around or bike or skate... whatever your mode of transportation may be at the time, yes the park is great for this reason! The playground how ever needs some serious updating! All they did was paint the place colorful when it used to be white! It wAs better white by the way! There are graffiti tags all over and the kids deserve better! This park has been here so long that the leaders in the community need to give back to the people of this community in a big way and update the playground and landscaping. GOOSE POOP! I thought I'd start out my review with this since it seems to be a common complaint from other reviewers. Yes there is tons of goose poop. Have you seen all the geese in the park? Of course there is poop! Do you expect someone to go out there and clean it all up daily? It's nature, we've already taken over their natural habitat, just let them poop in peace! It would be like going to the beach and complaining about all the sand there, it's just part of it. Get over it. :) Moving on...this is a wonderful park with a great bike/running path (both paved or dirt if you prefer) surrounding the whole 'lake'. I used an app on my phone and it said it was 2.8 miles around, give or take. There isn't much shade to be found YET, as many of the trees in the park aren't that mature yet. However, there is tons of shaded spots to be found on the southern side of the park. You can also find benches, picnic tables, grills, basketball & tennis courts, pavilion, playground, boat docks, and nearby food spots. My one 'complaint' is that there needs to be more trash cans around. It drives me crazy to be walking along enjoying this oasis of nature in the middle of the city and see pieces of trash that people couldn't be bothered to place in a trash can. My friend and I have started picking it up as we see it, but the trash cans are sometimes a little hard to find, which might explain some of it. I live in the neighborhood south of the lake and I'm a near 30 white male living in a nice house, nothing 'sketchy' going on with me or any of my neighbors who mostly fall into the same category. Yes there are some people who may not be as wealthy in the neighborhood, but there isn't anything dangerous going on as far as I've experienced. Needless to say, I think the park is very safe. If you're afraid of young parents running with strollers, children on bikes with training wheels, or anyone outside of the caucasian race, then this park is definitely not for you. Otherwise, come join in a great community spot, take in the views, and just watch where you're stepping and the goose poop shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience. read more

No parking inside. A part of the former loop road which closed in 2020 is open to cars on 12th Ave. No car access from 8th or 13th Ave. Plenty of porta-potties including handicap accessible. No other services. I walked around the park from the southwest corner in 35 minutes, about 3500 steps.There is a marble pavilion on the east erected in 1907 with rose gardens on both north & south sides and 3 fountains fscing west when Spring returns. I had difficulty in finding street parking on the west side. During my walk, I saw plenty of spots to park on the east side.

Beginning a city here proved to be a poor choice as the waterways were prone to periodic flooding. The City shifted to the northeast and this area was ignored and filled up with heavy industrial users. A huge flood in 1965 destroyed much of that infrastructure and provided an opportunity for redevelopment. The Greenway Foundation was a prime mover in the 1970s to create a park highlighting this area. A major update in the 1990s focused on floodplain management and further enhanced the park as a hub for the regional trail system. Today this is a highlight of Lower Downtown. Shoemaker Plaza begins at the REI building and extends down to the north edge of the South Platte River. The main park area begins at the south edge of the River and covers both sides of Cherry Creek. The trail system runs through this and continues north, south, and east. This is a beautiful space and exists in its own world, apart from the bustle of Lower Downtown. It is well worth a visit.

Lots of really cool tropical plants live here, away from the arid Denver environment. Further into the garden, you can enjoy multiple different styles of gardens, surrounding various beautiful water features. The japanese garden surrounds a large calm pond, and there were a lot of bunnies frolicking about. Further in there is a small bonsai garden. There is also a plains garden, an alpine garden, and a few different types of flower gardens including a Victorian secret garden. I really enjoyed the vibe of walking through these areas, and feel very jealous of people who live in the apartments nearby and can walk through this garden in their free time anytime they wish. The garden features two cafes -- one more interior to the garden which has ice cream and a few entrees, and one more near the exit of the garden which is covered and has bathroom access. I recommend heading to the first one to shelter from rain. Loved the hot cider, it was so good! There's also a huge gift shop with a lot of different things you can buy. I highly recommend visiting for people who hare in the area. It's a great place to burn a few hours and relax/decompress in nature!

We decided to check it out. We arrived to Denver Botanic Gardens on a Saturday morning. The gardens are located in a nice lush area in Denver. Free parking is accessible in the parking garage across. There's nothing better than starting your morning with a brisk walk through a natural setting of tranquility. I felt that with the Denver Botanic Gardens as soon as we started our journey. Besides the magnificent vast variety of curated plants and flowers, there was themed gardens, harmonious architecture, indoor conservatories, and cultural ponds. The Japanese gardens were my favorite. A cozy cafe is available for small bites and refreshments as well. The property is extensive and immense but just the right size to explore. There were plenty of benches everywhere to relax and rest. I found that to be a nice touch. Beautiful picture opportunities were boundless. Overall we enjoyed our experience at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The staff were all nice and accommodating. The atmosphere was welcoming and family friendly. Price point was fair. I would love to share the experience with other loved ones when we eventually come back into town.

The park is closed off for safety reasons but we take a picnic and camp out on the lawn at the neighboring Staybridge Suites to watch the action up close. It's a super fun way to kick off your Fourth of July festivities (for whatever reason, Glendale's fireworks always happen a day or two before July 4th). Earlier this week it was announced that the highly anticipated Glendale Riverwalk Project will be put on hold http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/blog/real_deals/2015/04/175-million-development-planned-for-glendale.html?surround=etf&ana=e_article. Instead, a new retail and entertainment district called Glendale 180 will be developed on a 22 acre parcel between Colorado Boulevard and Cherry Street, and Virginia Avenue and Cherry Creek. The city plans to break ground in the Fall of 2015 and officials hope to open for business in 2017. And this will mean that Creekside Park is going away. I'm torn. It's truly a shame to lose a nice, big park. But Glendale and its neighbors will be gaining job opportunities and new fun recreational activities. As it stands now, the design is thoughtfully planned with lots of open space, year-round landscaping, and meandering pathways that will create an inviting community gathering place. No office or residential space will be included in the new development, just shops, restaurants, and a cinema. And lots of parking. And relaxed open container laws! Apparently, Glendale used to be quite the hot spot back in the day so it's planning to get back to its partytime roots. Glendale 180 - see what they did there? I noticed because I know some parks have a stinky smell, but this one did not. Even though we went during the summer, it wasn't super hot and there were not a bunch of bugs for that time of year. Crowd The crowd depends on when you go and if there is an event happening. It was not crowded at all on the day we went because we went during the week. However, I know during certain times of the year they have jazz in the park and it gets super packed. Most of the time, everybody pretty much minds their own business or they are friendly, but if you go for an event, you should plan ahead accordingly. Price: This location is completely free to go to since there is no park entrance fee or anything. Even the jazz in the park events are free and really neat, which makes it a great spot if you are looking for a nice place that is laid-back and free to enjoy. Parking and Transportation: There are plenty of places to park during a normal day, but when we went to jazz in the park during the summer, it did take some time to find a spot. You should make sure to show up early so that you can find parking. If you live a little bit away, you might want to take an Uber, or you can just walk or ride your bike if you live close enough. Overall Experience: My husband and I went right before sundown to do a picnic and painting date that also served as a photo shoot. We had someone set this up for us and we paid for it, so it was very convenient because we just showed up and followed their instructions. It was a great time to go because it wasn't very busy and the lighting was perfect. I think it is a good spot to have a photo shoot or a cute picnic date because it has such a romantic feel to it. We had a really fun time and I highly recommend this place.

Anyway, the grid they created was still close to perfect and it stuck. City Park came later in 1882, and it too was visionary. Huge. Green. Perfectly placed. Eventually, its lake and boathouse would endure as the foreground of many of the city's best skyline photos. Not to mention, it has a city golf course, zoo, and nature and science museum. Designed in the style of New York's Central Park, the awesomeness of its splendor endures to this day.
