We purchased a bedroom set about a year ago, when moving the bedroom set we found that every screw was stripped. We did hire movers and they did attempt to unscrew but realized quickly that all screws were stripped. When we call to inform them of this they would only consider that it was the movers that did this. Warning as they put your items together make sure your screws are not striped because you never know when it's move time they will blame you and will not do anything about it. read more

It's bad enough that the furniture seems pretty outdated, with some of the same models they were selling five years ago, it's also pretty bad that their prices are so high. Saw a small cluster of 3 fake plants, each no bigger than cans of soda, something that would be sold in the Target dollar section, and the group of 3 were $79.99, and they didn't look real either (which would maybe justify a high price). The final straw was that amidst a global pandemic and peaking cases in the area, when we came in on Sunday, July 26th, not a single employee was wearing a mask. When we got approached by a sales person not wearing a mask we instinctively backed away slightly and he came closer. If they don't care about your health, they don't deserve the thousands of dollars you're coming in to spend on a new mattress and living room couch set. read more

My sectional recliner quit working and after contacting Slumberland it was not covered. Good news....we bought the extra insurance. Called and a repair man came out, he needed to order a part....ok. Weeks went by no word so I called and was told no part exist. They would be ordering me a new recliner to replace that piece...great!! Weeks and weeks go by again no word so I reach out...that sectional is discontinued, we need to decide if we will replace the whole thing or find a part that works. They finally for the first time contact me we need a picture of the switch....did that....part is found....great come fix it, You have to wait another seven to 10 business days for a repair man to contact you to set up and appointment...weekends and holiday don"t count!! Basically Slumberland will not stand behind their product....or help with the rinky dink insurance company they sell you! My recliner has been stuck up for at least 6 months now!!!!! read more

I stopped in here with my mother after seeing an ad in the Gazette's Sunday paper. I was relocating for graduate school and needed a second bed for my guest bedroom. We got to the store and began looking around. Almost immediately were approached by a nice salesperson (can't remember male or female, just that they were friendly and not pushy). I think the person could tell I was on a mission, so they left me alone unless I had questions. I was searching for something reasonably priced, but not cheap. I really do like a lot of furniture Slumberland has, so I wasn't surprised when I saw a sleigh bed (queen + frame) in this store for under $300. I asked the salesperson about the bed and they 'looked it up in the system' to see if they could get me the bed within 2 weeks. Lo and behold they didn't have the bed in the Wisconsin warehouse, so I couldn't get the bed for at least 6 weeks. WHAT??? Why even have something on sale (on sale to sell quickly) when you can't get it to the customer promptly? I thought 2 weeks was plenty of time, but Slumberland obviously wasn't prepared to meet such demands. I took my business elsewhere. 3/5 because the service was good and I like the quality, style and variety of what they carry. Store and parking lot are clean, which made for an enjoyable shopping experience. read more

I absolutely will NOT be back! I came in to buy a couch. There was a holiday sale of 30% off clearance. Bob was helping me. I specifically told him I wantEd this couch and will be right back with my husband. I came back and as I was waiting for bob, another female employee told me to get off the couch because it's sold. Confused I said that I was the one buying the couch. She said no you're not I sold it, waving the tag in my face. Bob shows up and I tell him. He says that sucks, but I can sell you that same couch for $40 more without a 30% off discount. PASS!!! Customer service goes a long way. read more

I bought a platform bed from here that eventually broke because it was assembled incorrectly because there was a manufacturing defect. I was not informed of the defect by the team that put the bed together, so I didn't know this was the case. The bed is now out of warranty so they are not willing to do anything for me about it and they refuse to take any of the blame for it. read more

I needed a bed for my mom's guest room but didn't want to spend too much money since I wouldn't be using it all the time. I told the sales people what I needed and they quickly helped me find a bed that was exactly what I was looking for. I really appreciated that she didn't try to sell me more than what I wanted. She answered my questions and pointed me to a very comfy queen size Serta mattress, box spring, and frame. The delivery guys were professional and fast. I was shocked that they put the frame together for me, took the box spring and mattress out of the plastic and put the whole thing in place. When I tried to tip them they were shocked and asked "what is this for?" Their selection was great and made choosing a mattress a little harder but I'd rather have more options than not enough. I'm thinking of getting a dresser for the guest room and Slumberland will be the first place I look. read more

We purchased a Sealy mattress from Cedar Rapids Slumberland. We were upsold on a better mattress with a longer (10 Year) warranty. We were also upsold on a number of accessories with the salesman saying "if we had these, the warranty would be always honored". After a little over 4 years into the 10-year warranty, the fabric seams began to come apart. We went to the local store and they immediately referred us to an 800 number for any warranty issues. We called the number and filed claim. Slumberland responded saying the mattress has been discontinued and they would be sending a replacement voucher. Then a day later we received a second email saying that a supervisor has overturned the claim and that no warranty would be provided due to "Normal wear and tear". I emailed and called repeatedly asking to speak to someone. I forwarded more photos with a detailed description and asked for a service tech to inspect the problem themselves. Every time I was told some would get back with me. This went on for months and nobody has every returned and email, phone call or any request at all. There are plenty of reputable furniture store that stand behind their product, Slumberland is not one of them and I will no-longer support them. Service after the sale is just as important as the sale itself. read more

I went last weekend to select furniture for a guest bedroom. I took my boyfriend (who does not live with me) along. I am a middle aged female. The selection was the best in town for what I was looking for and the price was in my range--not cheap, but not the most expensive. So I'd give that part more stars. The problem was with the sales guy. I noticed how he would only talk to and look at my boyfriend. Even after I said what I wanted and paid with MY credit card, he proceeded to look past me (AND WALK PAST ME) to shake my boyfriend's hand--didn't even really acknowledge me--the person who bought and paid for the bedroom set after the sales. He even, when writing up the sale, called over to my boyfriend to ask his first name after writing down my info. This purchase was for MY house! Lo and behold, the Thank You note arrived today from the sales guy addressed to "The (my last name)s" and then the note was to (boyfriend's first name) & (my last name) and the sales guy proceeded to thank us for our purchase! Obviously he made several sexist mistakes and assumptions! When I called to complain, the woman who answered the phone was very apologetic. You can bet I WON'T be shopping there again. The sales guy was an older "gentleman". If you're interested in his name, just ask--I'll happily provide it. read more

Just stood there and said find one you like. He was a bigger middle aged man and there was a older skinnier salesman doing a great job. Wish we could of had that experience. Incredibly disappointed in customer service. Cannot currently comment on quality of merchandise as I am still waiting. I ordered a kitchen table, 6 chairs, 2 barstools in the beginning of December 2020. They estimated with the pandemic etc. that the wait period would be 4-6 weeks. This put my purchase at their distribution center around the first part of February. No big deal. They were running a special for free delivery, which we had to ask for, it wasn't just offered. First part of February goes by and I (not them reaching out to be proactive) called to get an update on my order. Turns out it's going to be another 4-6 weeks before my order comes in. I generously gave them until the middle of April to call (again, me requesting an update, not them keeping me updated). The sales person that sold to me was unavailable and I unfortunately didn't get the name of the gentleman that helped me on this particular call. I was told my table and chairs were in but not my barstools, and they were waiting to call once they had the full set. Not taking into consideration that I may want my order as it came in, and that was probably something they should've let me decide considering at this point I've waited 4.5 months. The person on the phone stated that since I'd had to wait as long as I had, the best they could do was to offer full service delivery. He told me that they would call on 4/27 to set up a two hour time frame and deliver and set up my table and chairs on 4/29. After I spoke this this associate I was called by my original salesman to let me know that my table and chairs were in. I assumed, mistakenly, that since I had already spoken with someone about a delivery date and told that I would be called I didn't need to return the message. False.. they didn't put any note in the system from speaking with me. I waited until around 1200 to call on 4/27 to set up a delivery time. The person I spoke with stated they were full on delivery times on the 29th and the best they could do was 5/13. At this point I'm pretty fed up. I call on 4/28 to see if I can just come and pick up my order. Nope. They don't actually have it, their distribution center does. The earliest I can pick it up is 5/7. Real cool. Never ordering from there again. The only things stopping me from cancelling my order is how much I liked the table/chairs/barstools I picked out. Do not recommend. read more

Purchased the mattress protector from Slumberland Furniture about 20 months ago for an existing mattress. The salesman (Jim) told me that the mattress protector would protect the mattress from bodily fluids and stains. I was also told that if something did get through the mattress protector that my mattress would be cleaned. I later found out after my son vommitted during his sleep and discovering the his vommity went through the protector, that the mattress was not covered by warranty because the protector and the mattress were not purchased at the same time. Be careful... I have purchased 2 mattress protectors from Slumberland and they do not properly disclose the warranty terms prior to selling you the mattress protector. read more

I have been shopping in this store for over 8 years now and the sales people in this store have been getting progressively worse. I would recommend that you avoid this store if you can. The sales people seem to have the attitude that you are lucky to be in their store. All but one of them haven't given me the feeling that they are working with my best interests in mind. When I went to the store to return something, the sales person told me (and I quote verbatim) "It says it is non-returnable somewhere in your receipt" and he had my receipt in his hand, but did not even attempt to point to me where it said so. When I looked through and did not find it in either the receipt or the policy folder that they give along with the receipt, I pointed it out to him. He got angry with me for pointing out that the information he gave was false. I did not want to argue. I left because he was disrespectful. Lately I have had a warranty claim related to a mattress protector. Multiple store employees told me to call their customer service and get a document from their head quarters or the executor of their warranty. I spent 6 weeks, making many calls to their customer service and visiting the Slumberland store, trying to track that document. It eventually turned out that the store had it all along, but sent me running around to other departments in their company looking for it. But I have received excellent service time and again from one particular salesman, Dan. He has always made me feel that he had my interest in mind. He is the only reason I would go back to the store. So if you had to go in there, I would recommend that you ask for him. Slumberland used to be my go-to furniture store. But I have reached the point that I wouldn't go to Slumberland, unless I couldnt find a good alternative anywhere else. It will be my last choice. read more

Terrible terrible experience, so frustrated, don't buy from this store! Waited for four months for replacement drawer on the bed and did not get any useful assistance. I ordered a kingsize bed in June for our local store. When the bed was delievered, the drawer attached to the footboard was damaged. the delivery guy said they will send a replacement to us soon. surprisingly after waited for a month, when. I contact the store, who forwarded my request to the customer service, said no requested was registered in the system. I waited another three months, during which period of time I called customer service multiple times, and eventually still did not get any solution. ironically each time I called, I was promised that the drawer would be sent to me within a week, yet they were all empty promises. It was such a frustrating experience, I deeply regretted that I dealt with this company at the very beginning. read more

My wife and I went to Home Makers in Des Moines to look at a leather couch and matching chair. We fell in love with a Lazy Boy called Dexter. The price was a little over $2000. On the way back to Cedar Rapids, I suggested my wife call Slumberland Furniture as my wife Googled the nearest furniture store that carries Lazy Boy and Slumberland came up. She talked to a sales lady named Elizabeth and asked her if Slumberland carried Lazy Boy Dexter leather couch and she said she would need some kind of a number. So my wife research all the numbers she had and Elizabeth said that wasn't good enough. My wife told asked her how many different styles does the Lazy Boy Dexter have? Elizabeth said she had no idea. Mind you, we instead of spending over 2 grand in Des Moines, we wanted to stay local and Elizabeth was starting to annoyed at answering our questions. My wife got frustrated and asked to speak to her manager. After being on hold for over 4 minutes, a answering machine took over and said to leave a message. My wife just hung up and we decided never to do business again with Slumberland. If I treated a customer like Elizabeth did, I would have been fired on the spot. I know they don't care one way or the other about this review and now realize they just don't care. There are plenty of other furniture stores that would appreciate my business. read more
