Great service from start to end! The owners of the shop are brothers I believe and both are very nice! Honestly when I came to drop off my golden chain one of the brothers gave me the most for it out of all the other shops that I've called to compare and since I had no charge to give him he told me not to even worry about it, he said here let's just say I'm paying u 20 dollars more. So I ended up walking out with 20$ more then the highest paying place would even consider paying at the time. Love his sense of humor as well. I used to come here a few years ago and always got good prices. I came in today with an approximately 48 gram 10k gold chain. The value of 10k gold is $20.80 at the time I walked in, which puts its value at around $980. The main guy who's usually there (I assume owner, very nice guy) said to give a "good deal" to his associate, then offered $500... That's almost 50% of its value, and the value of gold is going up (he knows this.) The 1 star review is because it's an offensive offer, and if anyone falls for this, they're getting ripped off. When I was in my early 20s, I had a boyfriend whom treated me like gold. He was kind, thoughtful, romantic...blah blah blah. I broke up with him about a week before my 22nd birthday because I was young, in college, and felt like the relationship was "too domestic" at such a young age. I haven't spoken to him since but I kept a $200 Emerald ring he gave me at that tender, young age. I didn't keep it for any emotional or sentimental value. Nor did I ever wear it. I just merely didn't know what to do with it. I decided that I wanted to try to sell it to make some green in my pocket and my boyfriend suggested S/M, as he has sold watches to the establishment in the past. I imagined the stereotypical, ghetto, pawn shop type environment: dirt, dust, glass windows which make you feel like you are in prison, and men behind the counter who rip you off. To say the least, I was skeptical. Alas, that insecurity floated away like a soft cloud when I arrived at S/M. The building is clean, modern, and looks like a hip, creative office or even hotel lobby. The owner on duty was behind the glass (I still joked that it was prison-like) and instantly welcomed us (after we pressed the doorbell to be allowed in). He was kind and all smiles/jokes but yet, also very professional. The process was smooth as butter as he looked at my jewelry and asked what I wanted for it. I was reluctant to answer as I thought he would low-ball me. However, I felt comfortable and optimistic in his care. He then offered $115 for the ring and a necklace, I had brought. I was expecting about $70, so I was VERY happy. The exchange process was quick and efficient, as he took my license info and thumb print (they check with police to make sure the jewelry you exchange isn't stolen), he then gave me cash in hand, and I was done. In and out in about 10 min and most of that was us just chatting about other topics like old friends. Certainly the best jewelry selling/pawn shop type experience I have had and I will only go to S/M in the future. Terrific customer service, great exchange prices, and a cute building. S/M Gold & Silver is legit. Too legit to quit. The owner Shalom is the homie. Super nice, not creepy or icky or anything. Just professional, friendly, and makes you a fair offer for your items. Process is quick - in and out in 10-15 mins. I've been on two occasions to sell gold. Shalom buys silver as well, but the market price for it is SO low compared to gold. He was honest about the items I had and how much they were worth. Even suggested some items I might want to hang onto it the value wasn't that high. I had an old gold ring that lost the center pearl, but had a few small diamonds on the side. Shalom carefully removed the diamonds for me to keep (they don't accept gems/stones) and gave me cash for the ring and other items. This was a perk for me, since I went to another place (Gold Fellow on Riverside) and they wanted to issue me a check. No thanks, cash only please! Most of my watches were gold-plated so he didn't take those. The one and ONLY downside to this place...unless you 'somehow' have a steady stream of real jewelry coming your way, you eventually run out of things you can sell! Sorry Shalom! Shalom not only was professional but he was very generous and courteous and complimentary of my items I brought him. Sometimes you don't want to part with things but you need to and he made it easier to let go. He went above and beyond my expectations and even educated me on some of my valuables. He's honest and gave me the best bang for my buck around town. He even wanted a couple pieces for his private collection which made me feel good parting with these pieces that they weren't going to be melted and forgotten but cherished by someone new. I had some old gold and silver jewelry that I wasn't wearing, so decided to sell them. I came here after reading the good reviews and I don't regret it! The interior is clean and nice. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and put me at ease. The whole process was transparent: he weighed the items and told me how much he was offering. When I asked him about how he came up with that price (I had never sold jewelry before), he very nicely told me what the melt value was and what profit he would be making. (Later I went home and looked up the melt value myself just to make sure, and it was all legit.) He warned me that silver wasn't worth very much so if there was any sentimental stuff, I should probably hold on to them. There wasn't, so I sold him my silver too. He gave me cash and that was that! I brought 2 white gold diamond rings, their original price was $650 All he offered was a hundred dollars just for the gold. He wasn't interested in the diamonds.
