I really wanted to like this place because the presentation of the food matched what you would expect from a traditional North Carolina-style restaurant. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was very disappointing. I ordered burger steak with slaw, mashed potatoes, and gravy, while my sons ordered hamburgers. The meat in both meals felt extremely crumbly, almost as if it contained a large amount of breadcrumbs and very little actual meat. The flavor was far from what you would expect from quality beef and honestly tasted like everything except real meat. The mashed potatoes and gravy were average at best, and even the coffee tasted extremely weak, almost like flavored water. The only item I genuinely liked was the coleslaw. The wait staff were polite and genuinely tried to make the experience pleasant, which I appreciate. However, people primarily visit restaurants for the food, and sadly that was the weakest part of the experience at Small Town Kitchen in Cherryville. On a scale from 0-10, where 10 is excellent, I would honestly give the experience a 1, mainly because the coleslaw was decent. I hope the restaurant improves the quality of its meat and overall food preparation because the location itself has potential. read more

I remember coming to this building when I was a little girl with my grandparents. It used to be a Western Sizzlin' and has been a few things in between over the years. Today, while in Cherryville, we finally stopped in for breakfast--and it was very good! About $30 for both of us, and definitely worth it. We'll be back for sure. read more

First time visit. Has that quaint, huckleberry, green tomatoes vibe. A genuine old timey restaurant. Friendly atmosphere. Ordered the Patty melt with fries came to $17.53. Patty-melt was just okay, not bad just okay. Definitely worthy of a return visit though. read more

Great restaurant in Cherryville. Walked in and promptly seated. Server showed up quick and took our order. Less than 10 minutes later we had all of our food. Great selection on the menu, everything was great. Fried chicken, tomato soup, chicken tenders, etc. Waitress was wonderful and everything was quick. No complaints! read more

I am only giving a 5 star because it was clean and we were seated kind of quick. The food isn't horrible, but it is your run of the mill food. I got a salad with grilled chicken. Let's be honest, it's hard to mess up a salad. My husband got fried chicken and okra, Mac and cheese and broccoli with cheese. The Mac and cheese and the broccoli and cheese had been heated too much. Honestly, it's not even about the food which is pretty horrible by the way A couple years ago I went in and applied for a job when they first opened I was supposed to be the dishwasher before I was even hired. They started me off working apparently I was too slow for them, got harassed by the workers in the back it was a nightmare . We had great service when we stopped by for lunch. Our server was attentive to our table. She made sure we had what we needed and also offered us drink "to go." Jennifer is an amazing server - she knew exactly the right time to check on our table and had great suggestions on what meals to choose. I really appreciated her level of attention. Me and my family went and ate yesterday Saturday the 22nd. We order online a lot but this was a day to go in and sit down. They were soo commutative about when a server will be over at our table. Only half of us was there so we got our drinks to wait on the others and once they got there we started off with appetizers... fried pickles, cheese stick and fried mushrooms... they were fresh and great but my little girl accidentally got Choked on the cheese sticks and started to vomit. This was the first time this ever happened and I felt soo bad because of other tables around having to witness this. All the food was amazingly great though as always including the Mac and cheese as it's my favorite. Thankfully the hostess and our server Kia was on point helping out trying to keep her calm and let her know it was okay because she was crying freaked out. Friendly service, most of the food was fresh not frozen. I had the Calabash shrimp and Flounder combo. The fried mushroom appetizer was delicious, well seasoned coating that was not too heavy, will definitely order those again. I really enjoyed the Calabash shrimp, flounder was so-so.
