Getting a massage at a convention center with EDM blaring in the background isn't usually conducive to effective massage therapy. And by the time Christina worked on me, she had been on her feet for the previous 2 days giving massages for 8-9 hours straight each day. (BTW -- people lining up for massages at a fitness convention are paying little to nothing for the service.) You'd think Christina would be phoning it in at this point, and YET -- She was amazing. She is so warm and caring. She really comes across as someone who is called to ease people's pain. Even though I was a convention attendee who would likely not see her again, she took time to ask me about trouble areas and find my areas of tightness. (I'm not local to Salt Lake City. Otherwise, I'd be regular client of Christina's immediately.) And she found those pesky knots in my neck and shoulders -- gave them some really nice focused work with just the right amount of pressure. She even used an essential oil concoction of her own making for my neck, which smelled lovely (bonus aromatherapy). Since I was her last client of the day (the convention was wrapping up) she had to turn people away. And even though she was exhausted, she told me how much she hated turning away people in pain. There were about 3-4 other massage therapists at the convention, but word had gotten out that Christina was the only one worth seeing. She was (and is) truly in a league of her own. She has 20 years of experience; she had a thriving business in Idaho before a recent relocation. It shows. I imagine it won't be long before she is once again booked weeks in advance. Again, if I lived in SLC, I would definitely take advantage of the fact that she's rebuilding and get in massage time with Christina. Oh -- she also has a location in Saratoga Springs. I scheduled a 90-minute first time session with Aidan, and we talked through why I was there and his process. Since I'd never done this before I was feeling a little nervous, but he was so kind and understanding and made me feel so comfortable. I started by lying on my back and he explained everything he was doing as he did it. It wasn't painful at all! You could feel the smallest prick when the needles went in, but they were so thin and small that it was very light. He then left the room and let me lay on the table and just enjoy the acupuncture. This was literally the most relaxed I've ever felt in my whole life. I can't stop thinking about it! When he first said he was going to let me lay for about 20 minutes I was so worried that my mind would start racing and I would hyper focus on any pain points throughout my body. The exact opposite happened and I was insanely relaxed. I wouldn't say I was skeptical going into the session, but I definitely didn't expect to feel this at peace. My mind was clear for the first time in my life and I felt so good! After 20 minutes Aidan came back and I laid on my stomach and we focused on the part of my back that's been causing me pain. He's also a licensed massage therapist so he did some massage techniques hand in hand with his acupuncture, put some heat on the area of pain and let me sit for another 20 minutes. After that I was done! When he removed the needles, I got up and was able to raise my arms without pain for the first time in WEEKS. Last night I slept through the entire night without any pain, and woke up without pain. For the past few weeks I've been waking up every single morning with throbbing pain in my back, and last night I slept so hard that I almost didn't wake up to my alarm. It's really quite incredible that this bed does all the massaging for you, and I would be lying if I said it didn't feel great. If you're like me, not really big into the whole strangers touching up on you, this is a good bet. The premise is great, dark room, relaxing massage, nice music.....well...nice music in theory. They push these beds on you harder than a dealer down at the Road Home selling smack. I mean, not only do you (or at least I did) get this huge spiel about the beds themselves before you even get the massage, but what they claim to do for your life is obscene. I do not doubt that there are benefits to this bed, and in fact I did feel really relaxed after the fact. But damn, they were selling this bed so hard with benefit after benefit after benefit. After all I heard I was surprised this bed doesn't also help your wife from cheating on you with the pool boy. I mean seriously, some of the "promises" were just so hyperbolically marketed, it was laughable. I felt like I was on the set of an informercial. If your product is really as good as you say it is, and as beneficial as you claim it is- then it should do the talking all for itself. This is true in just about every facet of life. There's nothing wrong with informing your customers about a product, but this was extreme overkill. This sales pitch went on for about 20 minutes, because I came with a very large group of people, and I was in the second wave. Therefore I had to wait and grin and bear the whole spiel. After finally hearing about how the migun bed was essentially going to expel all my demons, I was excited for some peace and quiet. I get in the bed, hunker down, and then the stereo starts playing your ubiquitous spa music. It gets about 30 seconds in and I almost went into complete psychosis when I heard a man start giving his testimonial. Are you actually kidding me? I can not even enjoy my time in the bed without having an additional sales pitch. It then went on like this for the duration of the massage. Music-testimonial-music-testimonial. By the end of the massage, I was so aggressively marketed to, that even if this bed could cure my loved one's cancer, I would never step foot in this establishment. If they could honestly tone down this Ponzi scheme, I would likely return. The massage itself had the potential to be relaxing. But alas.....I'll never actually know.
