We've been clients of Smart Tax & Accounting for several years. When we first started, we worked with someone named Kim and had a great experience. Unfortunately, she eventually left, started her own firm, and later moved to Texas. After she left, we continued with Smart Tax & Accounting. For Tax Year 2022 we met with Liv, and unfortunately, that experience was not great. She may have been new at the time, but there were several mistakes, so we requested to work with someone more senior. We were then assigned to Tai, and for Tax Years 2023 and 2024 everything went smoothly. He was responsive and generally took the time to explain things clearly when we had questions. However, our experience during the most recent tax season (Tax Year 2025) was disappointing enough that we've decided to end our relationship with the firm. One issue involved Roth conversion planning. We asked Tai to run some numbers because we were considering doing a conversion this year. The calculations he provided contained several errors. When I pointed them out, he reran the numbers, but the revised version still contained mistakes. For something involving tax planning, accuracy in these calculations is obviously very important. Another concern was his comment that we shouldn't provide our mortgage statements because he didn't want to run the itemized deduction forms since we would "most likely" take the standard deduction. My understanding is that they charge based on the number of forms filed, but it didn't make sense to me not to run the itemized calculation at all. Even if it's unlikely, the numbers should still be checked to confirm which deduction is actually better. Overall, the process this year just didn't feel as thorough as in prior years. For example, there was no discussion about our charitable contributions, and we also weren't consulted about when our federal tax payment would be withdrawn. We eventually realized that the payment was scheduled for April 15 after not seeing a withdrawal for several days. Personally, I would have preferred the payment to be made when the return was filed, but we were never asked. In the end, there were simply too many issues this year for comfort. Our taxes are not particularly complicated, which made the experience even more surprising. Because of that, this will be the last year we use Smart Tax & Accounting. Hopefully the firm improves its review process and communication for future clients. read more

There's not much that can be said for tax services. It's that one thing no one wants to do and you'd hope the IRS forgets about you but know you don't have that kind of invisibility. Luckily, this place was recommended by my sister and it was a great find. To give you insight I came in with four 1099s, one 1098, four W2s, property tax, and property info along with one DMV receipt. All that put together and being brand new to this place and I still left in about half an hour. For context last year I had something similar to this and stayed for almost two hours getting my taxes done. It was so fast! If you decide to use this place just know you should make an appointment, they'll ask you in advance what documents you'll bring, and even give you the price of the service before booking. I love transparency. So why stretch out the inevitable? Instead, get your taxes done quick and (hopefully) painlessly. read more

I never haggle, no matter what or how much is asked, because I believe they charge what they reasonably need. I appreciate all his help over the last few years. After my father's strokes, he lost mental capacity, I found myself with an enormous stress level. Not even having sufficient time to grieve, it's tax time and I had to worry about taking care of all the financial matters, living conditions, medical care and taxes to boot! I reached out to Tai via email. I was able to send everything over email. When the taxes were completed, Tai made an appointment with me to stop by. Approximately 20 minutes later we were done. His knowledge of the various accounts and new tax laws provided a great background for the advice he gave for the upcoming year. I appreciate Tai and he is a true gentleman. Tai does not provide any bandages for the hurt, but he does provide a bit of pain relief to make it not so bad. He also provides free stamps:) Taxes are done and I** Paid in Full! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I had my taxes done here last year and the lady did a great job and I was done in 10 min. This year the guy in the back acted like a total jerk the entire time. He kept giving me his personal opinion on my insurance. He also was afraid to add my donations even though I had a receipt from the goodwill saying what I donated. I decided to try this place out because of the reviews. To be honest I will not be a return customer because I felt like more could have been done to maximize my tax return but the person who helped me did not go above and beyond in my opinion. It was an "okay" job, which I ended up owing money back, I was not happy about that (since last year I filed at a different place and I did not owe at all) And when all the fees added up for the filing process it was not worth it in the end. Probably because I owed so it was money out everywhere. I left a bit perplexed. I'm only writing this review since they extended the tax filing deadline to July 15th because of COVID-19. My mom still needed to file her taxes which I took her someplace else to file and the place she went to did a suburb job. Better outcome than this tax filing place. She didn't owe any money and the fees were still very reasonable. I don't remember the name of the place but it's in this plaza that has a restaurant that makes pretty good bánh xèo lol. I will instead be filing my 2020 taxes where I took my mom to file. read more
