Wow terrible, terrible customer service. Wish I had found these reviews before I ordered. I ordered 5 pairs of socks from the smartwool website 3 weeks ago. My first order with them. I realized yesterday they haven't arrived yet and when I checked the tracking info it just said shipped. I contacted their customer service and I didn't even get a response from a person, just a refund confirmation this morning. I don't want a refund, I want the socks! I agree with Kimo & Carla. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I did not look at reviews below their reviews. I bought some of their socks at REI in Berkeley, CA & they are GREAT socks. Mine are still good at the 4 year point. That is exactly why I joined their email list. I hoped to receive a deal. Also REI is not a consistent source for any brand of sox. They email me weekly promotional propaganda which probably is true. Finally they sent me an email with a discount. It was National Sock Day 1 week ago. 4 pairs of socks for the price of 3 pairs. I went to their website & attempted to order what I bought at REI. 1) I couldn't find them. So many choices. In addition to size there are styles (at least 5). Then there is thickness. I think that they used another word for it. 2) Keep in mind that their email address is not one of those NO REPLY emails. I write back to them & attach a photo of their sock that I own & want. Their name is woven on it. I say this is what I want. 3) No reply after a week so I phone & am on hold for 10 minutes. 4) SANDY answers. She gives me an email address & says put ATTENTION SANDY for help. 5) No answer after 3 days so I phone back. No answer this time but the computer reads my phone number to me & says they will phone back. No return phone call! I even checked my phone Caller ID since I had to leave for work. I rarely go to REI. MAYBE I'll but their socks (but a much smaller quantity) if I see them at REI. Since then I found a thicker warmer better sock. I am done with their website. For Christmas received a $50 gift card. Ordered $55.26 worth of merchandise on 12/29/21 applying as verified by printed receipt that gift card applied and $5.26 to my credit card. On 12/30/21 a Smartwool charge of $55.26 appeared on my credit card bank statement. Provided information to live chat. Chat said their record showed gift card applied and $5.26 charged to credit card. Offered to have supervisor review problem but they did not follow through and get back to me. Proceeded to file dispute with Bank. This kind of experience tends to produce more Amazon customers for those of us who try to buy small and American. read more

Smartwool, Kings of unsolicited mail. They will send catalogs to your home unrelentlessly. Call and ask to be removed, and the catalogs just continue to come. I've never bought anything from them, and for sure I never will. I hate businesses that disregard a person's request for removal or privacy. This represents unethical business practices. Worse customer service EVER! Sent in a return, noticed that one month later a refund was not issued, sent a message via their web page contact form, waited a week, no response. Sent another message, still no response. Now at 6 weeks, called their customer service number, they said they did receive my product, and "not sure" why my refund was not issued, and "not sure" why I was never contacted. Them taking your money is easy, getting them to issue you a refund, definitely not automatic. Take your money elsewhere! read more

Less than a star. Smartwool has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I ordered a pair of socks for a gift and they fell apart on the first wearing. I really like the Smartwool sock until today, I received an email that my order online was screwed up and best of luck with a 20% off for shipping on my next purchase. Zero direction stating if they cancelled my order or if they could implement the existing order with a longer lead time. I then proceeded to call Smartwool's customer service line, and waited for over 23 minutes before I just hung up. I sent a harsh email back regarding their response with zero email feedback, this company is a JOKE. I would not purchase anything from this company because if you have a issue you will be out of luck. Customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with and if I could give no STARS I would. You could probably be connected to the IRS or the DMV quicker than waiting for these clowns to answer their phones. Remember people these are just socks. read more

I am a huge Smartwool connoisseur....I am telling you MANY of these guys in my drawer and my go to sock. Everyday. When two pairs wore out faster than my experience in the past, I was shocked. So I sent them in under their guidelines, cleaned. They got back to me without hesitation or questioning and replaced those pairs of my choice. I got them in the mail yesterday. I should have written this review years ago when I realised that all of the Smartwool PhD ski socks barely last one season. The weaving on the ball and sole of the foot become threadbare very, very quickly. I've owned other ski socks that aren't as expensive, and they are still in great shape after years of use, so this tells me that these Smartwools have a design defect. It was an expensive lesson to learn, but oh well. read more

I have worn SmartWool socks for many years, but now I'm going to change. I still have some of their socks that are over FIVE YEARS old and they are in great shape. However, others that I have purchased over the past year have totally gone THREAD BARE at the ball of my foot. I still wear the same types of shoes, I don't run in them, I have not changed anything, but SmartWool has CHANGED FOR THE WORSE, as they have severely CHEAPENED THEIR PRODUCT. It really is a crying shame when you find something you love, but then the company decides that they need to make it cheaper, which usually results in poor quality, but somehow the price never goes down, does it? Similar to a couple of other posts re. Smartwool, I USED to be their biggest fan. I gladly spent the most money I've ever spent for socks to get their PHD Ultra Running socks (this was in the 2006 to 2010 timeframe). I still have these and they perform great. Each time I "lose" one of them in the laundry I practically have a crying fit, as there goes another great pair of socks that will never be created again. After the 2010 (or so) "model", for whatever reason (I can only assume it is (was) a profit-driven reason) Smartwool changed the design and composition of their socks FOR THE WORSE. What happened to doing a little customer research before making such a drastic move??? Maybe your design team thought (in their own minds) that it was a move for the better ... but what about your customers?? Like another reviewer said ... I love Smartwool products, which only angers me more...Your customer service is worse than the cable company and as non-responsive as calling DMV! I placed an order on Dec 4, since then I've emailed three times, and tried calling near 12 times attempting to find out the status. The longest I waited on the phone was 22 minutes! Still no reply or answer! Total bullshit. I faxed a piece of paper in today which promoted a call back 5 hours later which is when I was told the Christmas presents I ordered were sold out. My husband wore Thorlos for years until I talked him into Smart wool. What a mistake! He has Thorlos that are ten years old and his smart wool socks all have worn through at the bottom of the heal part of the sole. He will not be getting any more. Back to Thorlos. read more

Smart wool socks are not the same quality they were. I agree with Molly.e new socks become thread bare with holes in toes. I have a pair of Smart Wool socks that I have had for at least six years that are still good. Their new products don't last a year. read more
